so the invitation stands here as well if ppl can tell me what they like / dislike about my casting I'll try and improve on it a bit before the next time...
For example today the 1st match I casted I actually had more problems following it myself than the games which were after (I guess it's hard to play one moment and then shoutcast the next or smth :p). But if anyone has some nice critism you're more than welcome to share it with me :)

General Feedback and not pointing fingers here:

1. Never talk for the sake of talking. It just kills the whole 'in-the-zone' feeling.

2. If you're a player and you shoutcast, we expect insight from you. Get into the head of the people who're going against each other. Videl's boobs can wait and she has livia's alienware thread to honor them. Point her in the right direction and get back to the game.

3. Bridging is a skill. How to get away from the game for a second and bridge it back to the core. You cannot help but get away from the game if multiple casters do it. Also, a little bit of humor is fine but as long as it's just player related, it's all good.

4. Don't take 641651461464 years to finish your sentence. Give us a sign of life in you and don't talk like you've just woken up and shoved into a headset.

5. Don't say "Sorry, I was away"..it just breaks the flow of what was going on.

6. You never know when people tune in, so make it a point to repeat what's going on or what's happened so far.

7. Compare strats, maps, decisions with nothing but the player in mind. The foreground should never be boring talk.


I'm no pro but I've done several podcasts with people where we had the disadvantage of not seeing each other in real time. So nobody knew who was about to speak, but if one interrupts, all the others go quiet. Be spontaneous. That's all.

I think/hope I'm not doing 4... but maybe I tried to do a bit too much of 1 and it slowly became 4 or smth ;) So I'll go check if I rambled on too much / took too long to say stuff etc.

I don't really like repeating myself maybe someone else should do that... I do refer to previous matches quite a bit though (but that's more to deal with 2). I never really thought about ppl tuning in while I'm on though... they should just watch it all the time from start till finish haha (good that it's brought up though)

5 didn't happen on my account (I only say when I leave cuz then ppl don't go: weird what's your pov on that.... weird? huh? there? :p). As we don't see eachother either.

btw 2 is really hard to do (think like the players) because when I play I use my full concentration to notice everything going on... and now I have to also think about talking... 1st time I shoutcasted I was silent for like 6 mins each map (too see how the player thought etc) and then pointed out a few things that the player was doing.... Now I kinda tried to fill a lot of stuff with talking, but it sometimes means that I miss things which I wouldn't miss if I was playing... However I don't know what people like to hear. So if some more ppl can comment on that....

Repeating what's happened so far can be redundant too if done too often. So be the judge and take the call that it's time to let the specs know how the previous map was or if there was a major turning point in previous game and you see it brewing in this one as well.

I know it's hard to do and I agree that it's even difficult to commentate on what's and why's in real time. Maybe, instead of getting into their head, you can apply your game plan and commentate on what the player should be doing. That way, you'll have "he did this instead" approach which might help you pick a few pointers and you'll see through the moves and know what's gonna happen next.

Personally, I'd hate it if you shut up because you're a player. I wanna listen to your analysis. Since you're in the backseat and not playing (for instance this one time), you have the luxury of reading things better. Like an ideal spawn or an awkward spawn might be responsible for 2 different courses of action by the player. Fail spawn is fail, so nothing to commentate there.
