hehe, well I do try to play the maps at 125 fps on ultra to see the dips and change the maps to be playable at these settings. Only mnemjc and me being that picky ^^ God knows how many maps we've trashed due to this little criteria :D

You should focus on either mossy/dirty textures or clean textures. The blocks you use for the doorways dont quite fit. Also there shouldn't be hard crossings between textures like the concrete floor at the LG.

Visually, it might be interesting to take this in the same direction as a hl2dm map. It could be a decayed eastern european subway - cameras hanging off the wall, grass growing, etc. It's a little dingy and monotone atm.

Problem with mapping complex and doing nice graphics is that you have many limits that you cannot exceed. The idea of what we could change is good but can make us have a hard time keeping under the hard limits of the engine. We do prefer a smooth map then a nice looking map that stutters :(

you will need to rename _spec to _s and _norm to _local, if you use a material guide listed in guides/material.guide

guide generic_typeshader(TextureParm, TypeParm ) is the 1 to use for material types, and play it q43a, with all the impact effects working and footstep sounds, just use q43a materialtype list materials/types/types.mtt because nothing works in any other mod of the retail game

The textures will look a minor bit different but overall they will have the same look since they are missing the bump map and local map textures (Not to mention hightmaps). A map should highlight the features of the game not neglect them which you do by adding Q3 textures this way.

Only way to get them to look good in Quake 4 is by doing major work on them to get them into a higher resolution and then make the missing parts. Hence it's 90% the same as making the textures from scratch. If you just add textures from other games you'd have the same shit just in different wrapping which isn't what somebody proud of mapping should ever do.

the only textures that arnt worth using are q3 floors and a few ceilings, but the 1s that matter all look good ie- the goth textures, which make Q3 Q3, and a few lights

screenshots using converted q3 textures, with bump and spec, no heightmaps, because they are not needed

i zip them and upload them cos im ghetto, if its not massive, or dig out some dos apps and make a mean bat file to autodo

real mappers draw textures
wannabe pro mappers use textures and quick tile them off CGTextures
those who couldnt care about a dead game and just make a map for it, convert q3 textures

i code it, you tried it, get the latest, and replace some of them shit q4max server on q4master, and yall can kick ass all night

decent batch sharpener for after you have converted textures and made the normals and spec maps... the extra detail make the texture look crap in game
