Always ends up some tard that sat on the server the whole night just wtf-powns everyone by teleporting around the map invisible not taking any damage because any damage he takes is reflected 10% on the person that does the damage or some crap and he has grenades that 1-hit kill anything within a 70ft radius.

All the servers are connected to a global database that stores all characters, so whenever you leave your character will be stored and you'll be able to continue next time you play.

That's what I mean. When you enter these WC3 style servers on CS, many of them have saved profiles where you'll find you'll start "level 0" with nothing to your name, and there will be some badass level 9001 (yeah, over 9000) with grappling hooks, cloaks and everything to his name getting EZ kills. Sure the servers get reset from time to time, but pfft, who cares to wait for resets

I haven't tried the CS mod you speak of. But noone in the history of this mod has ever reached a point where noone could kill him, particularly so when skilled quakers are involved.

Due to the nature of the weapon/player upgrades you'll be gaining damage faster than tankyness.

Oh no sure, you can kill these high levels, it's just a pain in the ass. Seems pointless leveling if you consider it that anyone can kill anyone and if there is an advantage for the higher levels, then it's still pointless since you're getting killed... And if you're not getting killed, it's because you're a skilled high level, in which case it's pointless for everyone else :P

Anyway, I'm just rambling really. Just think leveling and FPS is kinda fail

Yeah, it's tricky to combine.

In this mod, if a player succeeds in fragging 25 people in a row without dying he'll reach a spree-war. Everyone else on the server will temporarily be unable to damage eachother until the guy has been fragged. During the spree war players gain significant exp bonuses for damaging/fragging the guy who is spree'ing.

Borderlands was awesome to play with friends. If they find a way to have rank limitations on servers, things would be sorted.

Borderlands isn't a competitive FPS though. It's a co-op

you can still have deathmatches and it has designated deathmatch areas, as well as just ability to duel randomly. Not a major part of game, but a part nonetheless

It is, played it on cs 1.6 and source, didn't like a bit of it.

uhm...when skill meets psychotic non stop play to gain xp bad things happen. These mods favor nolifers who just grind and then kill every good player since they're 10 levels above.

Not really, it does depend pretty much on how skilled are you in this game. Kots geeks have no chance against a q2 duel / tdm player. :)

explaining some things:
this is a very old mod for q2, which today gets a new big update.
It relies heavily on skill, which doesn't happen at almost every single rpg, mmo, etc. You can kill anyone at any level, and ofc receiving more xp points and credits by doing so.

I have not seen a single multiplayer fps rpg that's better than kots, or anywhere close. It's one of those hidden gems in gaming that you find from time to time.


On the other hand I've developed "gaming lazyness" from playing consoles and quake live, so I won't configure my q2 to play this (not after years without playing q2, and the last time I played a bit of kots was like....2006 maybe).
It really should be for quake live. Most of the work is already done, which is balance (not coding it for q3/qlive). Remember the mod has been there for more than 10 years (the addicting factor), and that balance can be translated to quakelive's weapons and gameplay without any problem whatsoever.

sounds neat, kinda like the CS wc3 mod. I found that to be quite fun actually, aslong as u played on a server where you would have to levelup again on each map, and only with each races proper skills :)

i was an undead hero, you could rambo so nicely with them.
