Yep, i have worst accuracies than fox. But i'm playing with ~50ms on scoreboard, and i'm not only playing pub CA, and I keep playing even when the teams are fucking imbalanced and crap. So basically even when i know that there's absolutely no chance that we win, I keep playing until the end, cuz I don't care anymore (back in day I used to ragequit a lot etc, but nowadays I almost don't give a shit, ok sure, just like everyone i whine quite a lot, but at try to control myself as much as possible and just play, i'm taling about ingame, not irc or whatever, btw :D).

It's easy. After a win don't stick around for the shuffle and go to another server, have a look at the teams and when you see that the one behind doesn't stand a chance to win, go into another server and so on.

you obviously didn't see zsx when he's onfire, and i'm not talking about some random pub CA there, i'm talking about real clanwars/cups with the very best CA teams. and concerning linkin, well, the guy is a beast in ctf, and play more CA than fox, as i said, his rail is just insane, and his aim is probably at least as good as fox aim in team modes. and fox doesn't have much ca experience, basically just like k1llsen, well, probably more experience than k1llsen but less than zsx, only to name him.
Actually there is quite a lot of very good CAers probably even better than fox (not talking about 1on1 here, only CA 4on4), like some of the [pcm], ouch! or uvs guys (Vium, poomer etc etc).
don't get me wrong, fox could still be a very good CAer (cuz he's not a duel player only like av3k for example), mainly cuz he can adapt very fast to basically anything (q4, cpm etc), and he's a well rounded player with basically weaknesses. but what i find pretty stupid is when non-CA player are like "omfg CA noob gametype, look at fox he would destroy everyone in CA even with 0 practice, ahha CA players are a joke, they all skilless noobs", which is so wrong tbh.

Yeah, k1llsen is quite insane in pub CA. Mainly because he uses defensive rail & rox and stay behind his m8s most of the time, he's quite often the last man standing. But he does it insanely well.
As everyone already knows, he has insane rail and good rockets. He's probably even a lil better than fox at pub CA, at least. Still, keep in mind that he's playing mainly in german servs, that means that he always has LOW ping :).
And here again, you probably didn't see him at real clanwars/cup (the fnatic's CA one). He's still very good yeah, cuz you know, he's a top player after all, but not as good as some people could think, cuz in real clanwar/cup you just can't rail forever, you just can't stay behind your m8s forever, and often it's "only" 4on4. Only the uvs (swedish only CA clan) guys know how to play super defensive properly :P.
Also depends on your m8s a lot, i mean, if you're better than your m8s, but they are worst than the opponents, then it's really hard to play in these conditions, trust me (i'm talking mainly for k1llsen here).
So, like i said, he's quite insane @ pub CA, but "only" very good at cw/cups.

Just try to play with the RL @ 60ms, and then with 25ms or less, you'll understand the huge difference.

And if you think that CA is only about individual skill, then you don't know what you're talking about, especially when you play on overkill (ra3map11) etc. And btw, k1llsen is not the strongest individual player, in duel yeah, he's insane, but in real 1on1 situation @ CA or DA, it's not really the same story. Not saying that he's bad or anything, far from it, he's actually one of my favorite quake player. don't forget that you can still RJ a lot, and it's 5on5 mostly, so then it's a bit easier to attack, with good coordination. And rail is "only" 80dmg (instead of 100 in q3), and that's nice, less hard to attack. And most of the time, people with insane rail got "average" shaft, so you'll probably get hit once at worst, but when you're on the guy, you should still be able to win, if your shaft or even rl are good. And when you are surrounded, it's harder to keep track of all the attackers etc. So that's why it's still better to go upper, cuz you can't get surrounded etc...

tower is "open area" and much harder to control with a team than the GL room. sif u have ur team in this room one can keep an eye on the "regen.Roomentrnce" and the rest on the team camp green the entry by the green armor. u have there an upper position too. so the enemy has an disadvante posistion is he want come in there.

is room is much harde to defend than the tower and much easyer to defend. so why the fuck running all to the tower? for me it is the weaker meeting point like RA room on dm6.

im unsure if you are talking about overkill in pub or in cw situations. in cw of course you could position otherwise then upper, but the thing about cws a bit and about pub 100% is....it'S simply no fun to camp your ass off :). because of that every pub action in overkill in ra3 was centered around tower and also cw's got played around tower....simply because people wanted to have fun instead of needing 1 hour for playing one map.

and upper/tower is hell of a fun if you like fast action. and if you have a bit of shaft/rocket aim besides rail, which every nab can do atleast his 30-40%.
in ra3 i hated overkill when it became popular till i learned how to position myself on tower and i increased my shaft. then it was a great map :). i only had a good rail before, which was no wonder, playing map1, which was puplic magnet no1 in ger before 11.

the fact is that in cw, if you decide to regroup statue, you can be surrounded easily aswell as pixel rail'ed from everywhere. not to mention the fact that there's the wrong place all around the regroup zone. so basically all the opponent have to do is :
surround
zoom pixel rail
spam long range rl from every entrance at the same time
and then attack all together from every entrance

this way you have perfect control over the opponent position, you can see everyone from the opponent team even if you get like fov 90, you can put a lot of pressure on them quite easily and if they continue to +back then they are forced to regroup in a 5m² zone, then you just spam rl and hit like 2 guys at the same time. some of them might even end up in the wrong place...

if you decide to regroup bridge, then it's basically the same situation, you just trap yourself like a tard. the enemy can come from everywhere and force you to jump in the wrong place, basically.... at 5on5, there's just not enough space to regroup there, i mean, you're are basically split and vulnerable. not to mention the fact that you can't spam nades/rl forever cuz you'll end up without no more ammos...
that's why if the opponent team is experienced enough, knows how to move properly (good strafe-jump skills + good rj skills), got some nice coordination/teamplay/communication and then knows how to set up a proper attack, you're screwed.

on the other hand when you regroup tower, you can't really be surrounded cuz of the high ground advantages and the jump pads, you can't end up in the wrong place and if you are well positioned, you can control all the area without that much problem. that's why it's more than recommanded to regroup tower/upper as fast as possible.

playing on dm6 bridge is much harder than playing defensiv on the GA/GL room in overkill. after first round camping this room the nmeteam know ur taktik and so it is like rushing bridge on dm6/dm20, holding upper on ca1 or what ever.

my point is that rushing tower with both teams is much more random than holding strong GA/GLroom. i a competition fun dont matter. winning or losing is that what matter. so u have to give the spot a try.

in pupCA i camp this spot all the time. get kicked from servers and so on...

after the first 2 round the nme team know that i am there and minimum 1 or two player come for me and try to kill me there.
it works really well for me. and if nobody comes i camp the entry fro the MH room on the RL spawn with the option to go defensiv to GA/GL room. i can do alot for the team in this positions but nobody will understand it and i get kicked every time... but me dont care. i dont waste my time on stupid tower positions curz there is more luck and random shit involved than in the GA/GL room.

My team skills are ok. I'm not really a team player by heart, but if i'm playing with the right players, if the players in my team aren't stats whores or have good mentality, then i like playing as a team. Otherwise teamplay is quite crap in pub CA, and even in pickups...

I'm not playing 1on1 cuz the mappool was crap (i don't like T9 & dm13) and the netcode could be better (altho it's still more than decent, cpma/wsw netcode > all). And atm i'm waiting for a stable 1on1 mappool so that i could eventually start practicing 1on1 more seriously. So basically i'm waiting for a stable and GOOD 1on1 mappool.
And btw, my main gametype is DA (Duel Arena, or CA 1on1, whatever you call it), but here again, i'm waiting for decent DA maps, aka thunderstruck etc. Atm only hellgatesredux (t5) and hearth (dm3) are pretty good for DA, the rest is crap. And there's no more pub 2on2 CA servs. I'm still playing 2on2 CA tho, with whoever wants to play with or against me.

btw, you should stop licking fox's balls, cuz i know some players who are better than him in CA. linkin, zsx, the pcm guys, even k1llsen, only to name them. Don't get me wrong, fox is still a solid & balanced player, but his fakenick doesn't mean shit to me, and it was even probably with the old hitboxes, btw.
So, basically, fox = very good player in all gametypes (except maybe CTF), but not the best.

+ the "all-weaps-out-firing" chaos that is CA can make for some silly, but genuinely entertaining frag scenarios.

Seems completely arbitrary and "toss a coin" spammy about any consistent outcomes here. Granted Heartless freely admits he's not concerned about outcomes or who wins, he does fixate on one particular number: LG accuracy...

So let's talk about CA LG accuracy. First of all, any CA LG percentage can't be compared to LG percentages in other mods, particularly duel. In terms of descending, meaningful LG percentages> duel>2v2TDM>4v4TDM>CTF>>FFA>>>CA.

Why? Watching this demo illustrates that in the chaos of CA, most of the shafting hits unaware or facing-away players who are in turn fending off other players' attacks. You don't have to work for a LG and can just selectively pick targets, preferably ones being attacked or unaware(duh?) and rack up huge damage.

Still looks like good fun and CA demos are scarce...could recruit more players to give it a go!

This is right. If you get high LG acc in CA, it still doesn't mean that you'll be good with LG in 1on1 situation when the opponent is fully aware of your LG and when he's trying to dodge.
Ofc, if you pick the best CA player ever, with the best possible and consistent LG ever in CA,, and you make him play against the best duel player ever, he will lose. He will basically get owned by the dueler's movements.
But if you put someone like cooller in the middle of a CA map, surrounded by many very good CAers, you cn be almost sure that he'll be lost, or he'll try to chase and get traped pretty easily. Obviously at the end he will still do good, i mean, he can still adapt his playstyle and do some serious dmgs, but compared to the best CA player ever, he won't do as good. Why ? Because in CA you have to rail a lot, you have to RJ a lot, and you just can't go 1 man army, which is pretty difficult to accept for a dueler. And trust me, some people are really good in 1on1 shaft situations, but not as good when there's 4 people in front spaming rox/rail etc. Mainly because their way of moving and positioning themselves will be pretty bad (they'll basically try to lock 1 target and then go 1 man army, which is not really good cuz you get destabilized by the rox spam or by the others players hiting you in the back, and that tends to fuck up your aim quite easily). About the movements, some real good duelers always move in a particular way so that they're almost constantly dodging and they make themselves really difficult to hit, if you're the target. But with these kind of movements, you basically don't hit as much as you would do than if you were using your movements only to hit more (but when you do that, you also get hit more easily, that's why you have to use your m8s to cover you, you have to not chase the opponent, and focus on the same target as your closest m8). For example, some people like zsx (the dignitas one, GaRpY's buddy) or linkin are fucking insane in CA clanwars or pickups (when the teams are balanced etc). Their LG/RL/rail are really really good when it's not an 1on1 situation, their ability to lock the target and to deal back dmgs is just from another lvl :), trust me :). They can hit 45-50% constant LG the whole game as long as they get proper cover and as long as they don't get traped in 1on1 situations. Some people like cooller or av3k just wouldn't do as good as them in the same situations, even after months of CA practice, trust me :). Keep in mind that i'm not talking about 1on1 LG fights here, i'm only talking about FFA LG or "team" LG...

I'm thinking of a fighter pilot analogy when he's got multiple bogeys all over the place. A seasoned CA'er knows how to react very quickly and serially attack various targets, put down a few percentage rox down there, quickly flick rail another target off a jump pad, spin with LG to finish off a pursuer from behind...

Kind of attention-defecit, motor-skill spastic frag frenzy. Well I do accept that as a skill and quite a far cry from what a dueler confronts.

But mostly i have a feeling that you uploaded the demo just because link played and you scored better ( wonder how it would turn out in a different gametype :) ). I guess CA demo with random people and with even better LG acc wouldn't be that interesting tho.

Indeed great LG at the end, but overall LG acc would be lower if zouflain hadn't been screwing around like that (walking around with gauntlet and using plasma in weird situations).

I used to play a lot of thunderstruck (1on1 2on2 CA) back in the day. And some overkill :D.

I used to play promode yes, and ofc some pub CA at dm6. And then i switched to warsow. Warsow CA and ctf, and then wsw bomb/ca only.

CA is by far the most skilled mod ever. No wonder there are so many leagues. Soon Cooller, Rapha and Cypher will start to play CA and they will all show how one really shafts! I will be looking forward to this! Who needs timing anyway - it is brillian! All the weapons and to think I was spending 10 years of playing TDM/CTF. What waste of time.

Now I know better! To actually achieve something in QL I need to be good in CA!

In CTF(4v4/5v5) you play on a TEAM, right? so far so good...and on that team you play certain positions that can vary a bit over the course of the match, maybe some teamspeak on vent, running similar routes and guarding certain entryways/sniping strategic openings/quad&PU vigilance,etc...

So that's a lot to manage, yes. Do you really think though over 20mins, if just ONE of the TEAM members misses a rj, misses a rail, gets out of position for a minute, whatever -- will drastically affect the TEAM outcome??

Hence the critical difference in duel. YOU are completely accountable for EVERY item, EVERY weapon, EVERY rj, EVERY sound fake, EVERY timing delay...you get the idea [sorry for caps]. Missing a rail, dodging incorrectly, switching to the wrong weap because you anticipated a different weap [doubly fucked!], too many variables to list here...but the word is "accountability."

No mod holds a player to such stringent scrutiny like duel and demands nearly flawless play to compete successfully at the highest level. Might not be as fun, might be too intense and competitive for some or just tedious/exhausting since duels often play out as sneaky trickery and mindwarring, but that's just the parameters&rules of the mod.

My opinion is that your aim is medicore, but you have a chance to improve it a bit by increasing your sensitivity since its clearly visible how handicapped you are when you need to do a little bigger adjustments by surprise.

ps. and the fact that you had 43% LG in that game is just because you always joined fights as a second player whom the player getting fragged wasnt aware of.

I think the main reason he was accused of cheating was because he felt the need to make spastic mouse movements LGing a guy going straight up a jump pad..

Btw, my sens was 25-30cm when i recorded this demo (1024x768 100hz). And I had 50ms on scoreboard.

ahahaha, there were exactly 3 real shaft duel situations. I won the last one even when i was surrounded by 2-3 guys. I lost the 2nd one cuz someone super shotgun'ed my face at super close range. I almost won the first but he +back'ed and then i got pwn by his m8.

He backraped me once with shaft when i was falling down and focused on another target

Linkin rail = very consistent & insane overall. Linkin overall skill = consistent & insane in team modes overall. Linkin shaft = good, but far from insane.

If you want me to shaft duel linkin in real situations, well, just ask him at irc, and you'll see.

To be honest, check weapon frags, that time they were doing rockets only.

And they did shaft only, where heartless did beat toxjq. But CA shaft means nothing, even I can shaft 40+ in CA but in duel my lg is always 35ish since its just me and the enemy and they can dodge properly.

lol, it's funny cuz someone exactly said the same as you when i was playing at some pub ca 2on2 (well, here it was 1on1), and then i started to use rl only and the guy was like "okok i was wrong, give me your dick, my mouth is open, i'm ready"

And yep, ofc i lost 10-2 the rl fight, but keep in mind that i was on the server only to shaft duel him, but he wanted to rl duel after the 3 shaft games, then i said ok, cuz it's toxjq, the legend :D. So basically i wasn't psychologically prepared to rocket duel him :D, and btw on scoreboard the pings were ~33ms for him and ~45ms for me. And then he had to go after the RL fight, so basically i couldn't have a rematch. But it was ok, cuz it's toxjq, i still respect him and i don't care that much :D. So he won 1:0, best of 1 game, with rl :). Someday i want my revenge :), so that we can play a proper best of 3 with RL only, at least :D.
(btw i lost the first shaft duel and then won the 2 others...). I have to admit that his rockets are good, but it was more his dodges that were difficult to handle.

So, toxjq is toxjq, the legend etc etc ;D, but classic duel =/= DA (or CA 1on1). Keep that in mind.

Well its probably normal that people who rely heavily on aim are less developed in other areas.
If any aimer ever learned to be as tactical or calculating like noctis and rapha they would dominate the top.
But the probability of something like that happening is low. If you got something that is good, you will rely on it instead of trying to strengthen other skills.

If you played CA 1v1 instead of 1v1, you will cease to grow as a player though, at least what I think.
If you already got strong aim it could be good to focus on trying to improve your normal duel skills.

Back in the days my aim was always my greatest weakness so i've played CA/ra3 to try and strengthen it. Id say im somewhat of a balanced/wellrounded player nowadays. neither good nor bad after hitting my skillwall ^^

Shaft aim and its percentages greatly different between gamemodes in QL. I mean, look at some shaft percentages in 1v1 and then compare them to CA/CTF.

It always depends on how you play with the weapon: Do you spam a lot? In what situations do you use shaft i.e. let's say I use shaft when rocket would be more appropriately which ultimately results in the fact that I hit shit because I get bounced through the map as I get shot at with rockets.

Another good example is water shaft on CTF7 - if you don't hit at least 80% while someone is swimming you are pretty bad. A lot of defs have 40 overall accuracy because they fight in situations where they have the positioning on the enemy.

You have to see that better accuracies enable you to kill someone faster as your dmg/s is higher; however, it says nothing about how good you are in general. This is especially true for a mod like CA.

To round this up: A truly good shafter can only be determined when the opponent is looking at him while using shaft as well. Try to hit someone like Cooller with shaft when he is dodging like he is known for. I assure you, you will hit shit.

And I am comparing Gopher/mikes and those OSP players to other OSP players at the time, that have maintained playing quake into CPMA and ultimately Quakelive. Now I compare the likes of FAZZ and FOX (played all 3 mods), to those aimers that were in OSP.

Gopher/Mikes out aimed them back then, so in easy mode CPMA + xerp and now Quakelive, they would have been fucking monsters.

Well, 95%, why ? Cuz if you're good with the shaft in 1on1 situations, that doesn't mean that you'll be good in 4on4 etc. As I said earlier, someone like cooller wouldn't do as good as zsx or linkin with the shaft in 4on4 CA, trust me. :)

It was not CA shaft, it was DA shaft (or CA 1on1, whatever you call it).

So basically if your shaft is good in DA, it will be good in duel (also from my own experience). Because in DA you can dodge properly, unlike in 4on4 CA where you're always spamed or backraped to death.

Ofc in classic duel you can avoid the shaft duel battles, but still, when there's one, if you're good at shafting in DA, you will be good at shafting in classic duel.

I didn't want to hide anything here. It's a full demo, with all the fail moments. But there's still some quite insane moments with shaft, and some pretty good/good part, like i said, just watch til the end.

btw, this is not standard aiming, especially with ~50ms.
