looks a bit on the weak side, since you have to consider the surge (correct term?) for start-up and aging effects.

and yeah you need more amps on the +12V rails.

What you should do is go here: http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine put your stuff in and click the button for "aging".

if you really want to cut it close with your psu, you need to check the rails specifically, which apparantly you can do in the pro versio of the site I linked, or just calculate it yourself for the +12V.


But honestly, I wouldn't try to save the last 10€ on the psu.

Had a psu that pse once that put out less power from one day to the other. System simply wouldn't start. Hooked up another old psu to some components and the system started fine.

So trying your old psu shouldn't be harmful. However, I'm not sure what hapens if it barely brings enough power, wheter you system will become unstable or perform worse, etc.

in most manuals I have read they will have such a statement just so they are on the safe side for warranty reasons.

lmfao of course you can. You can start by frying your motherboard doing that. And I've seen it done also by a friend who won a 8800 GTX @ QCcon 2007 and put it in his old system wtih a weak PSU. Fried it on the spot.

not a good idea, cuz you would also need more ram (you need at least 3gb), and your cpu is way too slow compared to the gtx460, the graphic card would be limited a lot by the cpu.

and ofc you need a good quality psu (high quality is better than high w)

ofc, for example, if you buy a gtx460, you'll be able to play @ 1600x1200 resolution (with probably high details) with about the same fps as with your 7600gt @ 1024x768 (med-high details), butreally, what's the point ? All that money for 30fps in crysis @ 1600x1200 ? Pretty stupid imho.

Overclock the 6300 to around 3.2 GHZ (no more).

Add some more ram.

Put something like an ECO 9800 GT in there so you won't have to upgrade PSU.

you'll get a nice 25% boost with hardly any money, then do a big upgrade towards end of year.
