MX300 had an older sensor exclusive to Logitech, MX518 and many other mice have kind of the same sensor.
Ikari Optical and the first A4Tech X7 Series have the same sensor as EC1/EC2 but ofc with a different lens.

Drift control aka angle snapping aka prediction is a common prediction mechanism in mouse sensors that is designed to assist users in drawing straight lines vertically/horizontally in graphical and work applications. Such sensors predict when a straight line is being drawn and corrects any movement that deviates from that straight line, rather than follow the user’s exact movements. This means a downward swipe of 5 degrees can be corrected into a completely horizontal line, causing a gamer to miss his target.

I think that's a bit extreme. No doubt it's not ideal, but I've never missed a target due to mouse prediction/angle snapping/correction/whatever you want to call it.

People blow the angle snapping out of proportion. It's not ideal and it's a silly thing to put in a sensor, but it certainly isn't going to make you miss targets a larger % then if it wasn't there. Maybe a small amount, if at all, but certainly not enough to make you lose a match

I'm sure you've done some hardcore closed testing to prove this applies to everyone on every mouse and algorithm used to adjust snapping (different mice do it differnetly) haven't you? No, pretty sure you haven't and you're just saying that. In high-paced action flick shots, yiou can't always visually measure and be sure whether a miss was caused by snapping or not, but in general it can be seen (I notice it atleast). Third, people don't "blow it out of proportion" ; everyone else notices it except you and they just prefer to have the edge and eliminate any possible variables outside of what they aimed for. I think most people desire that, and even if the difference is small, prediction is still not something you should want in a mouse.

Actually, in my opinion, prediction is something you want to have if you're playing ET or RTCW. Tracking without prediction, when you have to shot headshots (and for that matter, you mostly only have to aim in one axis (the x axis obviously)) is a lot harder.

But when talking about reflex games such as Quake and CS or even Call of Duty, I can see why people don't want prediction.

On a side note, one could try to apply my scheme to aiming with the lightning gun in Quake and would come to the conclusion that my opinion is bullshit, but that would be incorrect as you don't have to aim headshots in Quake!

There are many Deathadder heaters as well as lovers around.
I personally dont like DA coz its too big and cant do quick moments with it.Tracking is good in DA and polling rate tweakable.
Mx518 is good but not real 500hz tweakable. Its little heavy too more than 100 grams i think. I like prediction soz no problemo for me.

Other then that i loved it, and the shape was far better then 3.0 & DA ( More like a 3.0 )
The only thing i could not stand was the low lift of distance! I know they promote it to be one of the best features about this mouse, but it really felt wierd for me because im used to the mouse tracking when i have it close to the mousepad even if its still in air! But i guess i might get used to it.

Placed an order on EC2 since for some reason it felt better in my hand!

They have prediction.

For all I know the people in Asia says it's a Avago 3060 sensor in it. The same that Logitech had in the first MX500 where you back then had to tweak your USB to get a higher max speed out of it (remmember sujoys mousescore tests)..
And that sensor has if you take a look on Avagos website native 400, 800cpi. Altho even if it is the 3080 sensor it still has interpolation, because neither 500, 1000 or 2000 is the sensors native cpi values.
To me it seems rather pointless and stupid to use these values anyway. I can understand why the companys do this for marketing tactics, I mean the random buyer think that the higher DPI(CPI) the betther the mouse is of course, But I thought Zowie was the guys that wanted to make a "real" gaming mouse with no bullshit marketing stuff.

And i would say putting a lens to make the lift-off distance smaller should impact on the perfomence aswell somewhat.
Because the tweaked down lift-off distance could never be the optimal tracking hight for the sensor.

The USB set at 1000hz by default will also cause more problems for their support team, when the random buyers computers can't handle it well. They could have just put it at 500hz instead and let it be set by the user manually through a software like on the Xai or a Switch on the bottom of the mouse.

Oh well will be fun to check it out nevertheless.

A3060 has been confirmed with pictures.
MX500 had the A2020 which was exclusive to Logitech.
Increasing the polling rate to reach the mouse full potential doesn't have anything to do with the sensor itself.

Getting higher CPI isn't a problem with a different lens, which Zowie clearly does, but normaly it has a negative affect on the max. ips.
NZXT used a 3rd party lens from Kingsis on their Avatar to get it to 2600 CPI which totally fucked up the max. speed, the 25% more CPI on the EC1/EC2 shouldn't affect it that much.

If you set it to 2000 CPI I guess they will do the same thing as the Ikari Optical (also A3060) afaik does it, they will load the A3080 srom (firmware), which can be done because A3060 and A3080 share the same hardware and controller.
That's why there is a delay if you switch between 800 and 1600 CPI with the Ikari.

The different lens with the tweaked LOD could cause the optical sensor to loose one of his advantages: flawless compatibilty with a lot of surfaces.

A switch between 500 and 1000Hz would really have been better.

A MCU with adjustable pollingrate is allways possible, doesn't have anything to do with the sensor but they would have to change the hardware.

A angle snapping free srom/firmware is theoretically possible but Avago would have to give them one (just like the one for the DA).

Its seems like they didn't take the extra effort to do it, or maybe cost constrained?

I guess they either think it's not necessary or not worth the costs, allthought we aren't talking about big costs here.

This "extra chip" is the MCU, something every mouse has.
No MCU can get rid of angle snapping because all get the same movement data from the sensor.

This whole "we did our best to get prediction as low as possible" is just BS, a higher polling rate doesn't reduce prediction, the crosshair still moves to the same place as I explained before.

Not really. It was known about on tech-head geeky forums - which is why people stuck with Microsoft mice and was whined about for the Deathadder 3G before Steelseries bothered with all this prediction talk

Search some old threads on ESR (atleast 5 years back) and you will find discussions about prediction. It has been blown out of proportion though by people who eat up steelseries words about no prediction being so important when for most it will not make their aim any worse.

Years ago when I bought the MX518 in need for a higher dpi (I don't need 5000, but 800 to 1800 is desirable), there was something I didn't like about it. My mouse movement felt smoothed and less "sturdy" or accurate.

So even before steelseries started talking about it, I noticed it, but I just didn't know what "this annoying feeling" was.

The IE3 is a crapmouse imo, skips like no tomorrow.

After years of being annoyed by slight issues, I'm finally satisfied with the Xai. The drivers are buggy as hell, but you don't need them thanks to the LCD screen. The only drawback the Xai has imo, is it's price.

I've been out of the gaming scene for a bit. The name Zowie seems rather new to me.
Who are these guys?

Their mice look like clones of MS and Steel Series mice so what's so good about them?

The WMO isn't sold here at all anymore and the ones I have don't work anymore... which is why I'm looking for a replacement.

As I said multiple times, for someone who is used to an ambidextrous mouse the shape is really awkward imo and I don't think it'll suit you. As you can read in the both thread about this mouse, pretty much everyone goes back to their old mouse after testing it even though it's an ok mouse but I think the shape has something to do with it.
It still feels awkward after an entire week of use while I'm fine with any sized mouse after 1 hour.

Also, if you use the wheel as much as I do (I have weapons bound on mwheelup and down while I zoom in the wheel button) you will have issues with this because the wheel is too sensitive, you will most likely make unwanted weapon switches which is a pain in the ass.

Afterwards the sensor is fairly good and won't lose track no matter what and the prediction is not an issue.

I had mouse name Iball basic 3 button mouse was best mouse I used at that time. I had so much control on that mouse. Then I couldn't find that mouse anywhere.
Then I bought IBALL BLACK CAT but it wasn't as good as old one. Still fishing for good small light weight mouse.

I'm looking for a replacement for my da 3.5 - which has served me well, but the side buttons are now fucked. I've used a mx510, old DA and an ie 3.0 in the past, and would be happy to go back to the 3.0 again- this seemed a decent alternative but it's out of my price range (i'm cheap).
Are there any differences between these 'special edition' 3.0's and the standard one? The main problem with the 3.0 is the mousewheel (goes down randomly!) and the side buttons are bloody flimsy.

the new "legends edition" 3.0 came out. it's 9000 fps, you might wanna try that if you wanna go with the 3.0

Got the mine today, first impression is really good.

Build quality seems very solid, shape is like a mix between a 3.0 and DA and the weight is good (could be like 10g lighter but I'm def. not complaining. To me the DA felt awkward lifting, as if the weight distribution was off, this is not the case on the EC1.

No mwheel issues, sensor feels really nice (and I'm used to firmware updated DA) \o/.

If nothing changes this is the best mouse I've ever tried. FINALLY!

3.0 at the bottom also falls at 90 degree angle, whereas DA doesn't and it makes it uncomfortable.. the difference is very subtle and I can't tell from these pics :/

I really like the coating of my Xai (black should be comparable) but many people find the coating of Zowies IMO 1.1 ((same as EC white?) fantastic.

The surface of my EC1 white gets incredibly sticky, but thats exactly what I want!

i have both xai and ec1, ec1 is a tiny bit bigger but feels lighter/easier to move, so i doubt the ec2 would be as heavy as the xai

Comparing measured weight with the "official" weight which is usually without the cable attached is pretty useless.

Ordered the EC1 now, figured laser wasn't an option since I use a cloth pad. Those huge mouse feet are bothering me though, why would you want to have such a huge surface giving resistance? Where is the advantage in that?

well the big feet seem to be working great for me so far, has the best glide out of all my mice by far which include DA, xai, ime3.0 and wmo (on puretrak talent).

After using a EC2 White over the weekend I would say it's a very good mouse but because of some minor issues it couldn't really convince me compared to the Xai.

Mine also has the wheel bug, nothing that really bothers me ingame.

First of all my EC2 also has that Wheel Bug but that doesn't bother me ingame, it doesn't interfere with how I use the dedicated weapon binds on the mouse wheel.

For my taste the wheel isn't stiff enough and it could have a better defined rasterization buth the wheel button feels pretty good.

The same goes for the main buttons, they could be stiffer, I just like the stiff buttons of the Xai, others maybe not.
The operating travel also feels a little bit long but compared to other gaming mice they are still good.

I really like the shape, it fits my Claw Grip very well and the grip is very good, damn sticky, something you may find uncomfortable (note: mine is the one without the rubber coating on the top).

Unfortunately with my Grip the thumb buttons are a too far at the back.
With the Xai my tumb holds the mouse right in the center under the 2 thumb buttons, with the EC2 my thumb holds the mouse more under the forward thumb button.
So I have to move my thumb more back to press the back thumb button which also caused some miss clicks, not optimal.
That also makes it a little back-heavy while lifting.
For my taste the side buttons also have to much travel.

Sensor works very well and does exactly what it's supposed to do (if angle snapping isn't an issue for you).
With Enotus Mouse Test I get a max. speed of slightly over 4m/s (1000 CPI, 500Hz on a Mionix Sargas), that's something you will not hit ingame.
With the standard lens the max. speed would possibly be a little higher but I doesn't really matter and I'm too lazy to look whe´re I put my Ikari Optical (same sensor with standard lens).

The LOD is as expected very low:

Talent: <1,2 mm (1 CD)
QcK heavy: <1,2 mm
Mionix Sargas: 1,5 mm

Glide is fine and I find the cord pretty good but I still prefere the braided cord of the Xai which has less friction.


From an objective POV I findthe price too high.

As you can see it's mainly some minor things which are comparable to other gaming mice but which are imho simply better on the Xai.
I should also note that my Xai works very well, no problems on cloth and I can easily manage the small acceleration.

LOL you are not going to get perfect mouse which is your grip style and shape. Something will be always wrong either wheel or sensor or cord clicks/ sidebuttons etc.
You choose EC2 which is small mouse you so it was you should know your grip will go more further under front thumb button. You should have try EC1 your thumb might rest under back side button.

Players here are looking for a mouse which has very good optical sensor and light weight mouse. Some players dont want prediction.

Xai has terrible sensor otherwise it has very good shape but it might be heavy for someone. You are not going to get stiffness of buttons which is in Xai in any other mice tbh. You like stiffness of them I dont coz I get very slight delay clicking them and enemy shoot my head before I click. Tracking sucks as many knows here. Software is worst and very buggy for Xai and some functions doesnt work. (Optical > Laser for more 100 years lol)

The only hope in EC series mice was expected to be light weight and optical senor. I know its not perfect mouse. But sensor is good clicks are good only flaw is wheel and price. Which can be managed easy.

Price will sure come down in near future they might solve problem of wheel in next production but atm it iss very competitive mouse for Deathadder/ Mx518/ Xai because of sensor.

P.S. Players who like Mx518 Deathadder are lucky because it suits their grip and style. Those who doesn't suit them are always looking for new mouse and another new mouse adds in their graveyard of mice drawer. Hopefully EC2 which I ordered will be last mouse in my cabinet. ^^

Xai has no prediction, but hopefully i can get use to the ec, but i doubt so, looks like prediction is damn massive =/

I don't blame Zowie or the EC2 for not beeing the best/perfect mouse for me, I just wrote what I like and what I don't like about the mouse and why the Xai is still the better mouse for me.
I actually didn't get the mouse to replace my Xai, I just wanted to try it with having in mind that it will most likely will not drive me away from the Xai.
I know that bigger ergonomic mice aren't my thing, that's why I choose the EC2 over the EC1.

Your points about the Xai are correct and I totally can understand why someone doesn't like it and sends it back but personally I just don't care because those issues aren't real issues and for me it just works best for playing FPS (as I said, mine works very well on cloth, feels precise and I can easily manage the accel., so for me tyyhe sensor is far from bad).

lol bad drivers cant turn on prediction its worst drivers made by Steelseries no offence. They also fked up kinzu drivers and not making new drivers or firmware for that mouse.

I call bullshit considering I've had some irritating experiences using the drivers on the DeathAdder. When I would try and change the DPI on the stock profiles on my DeathAdder to say 450 or 900, it would automatically default to 1800 after a few seconds. Or when I tried to turn the glowing lights on the DeathAdder off, they would remain on, even though it says they're off in the drivers. I had to reinstall the drivers several times before they were working properly.

Yeah, the Xai drivers aren't very good but most of the stuff that needs to be changed can be changed without a problem..

The only company I haven't had any problems with is Logitech but even then that's a user by user basis as I'm sure some people have never had the problems I had with the DeathAdder drivers.

You might have some problem in software or firmware mate.
The problem you are facing can cause your OS or other factors.
If you try to switch profiles from the bottom button on DA mind that it switches like profiles 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 then back to profile 1.
Or the main problem in DA is no onboard memory to store profiles.

I have used many mice and only logitech and Razer made best firmwares and microsoft can also make nice firmwares.
Rest of the companies just use default firmware that comes with sensor I believe.
Steelseries firmware and softwares are so buggy will never try them.
I dont think Zowie will release their own firmware.

It has okay shape and sensor. Nothing special.
I paid 71 euros! I should have waited and release in UK might have got cheaper one. But anyway I had my ego lol.
I dont find this one better than old DA 3g.
It doesn't track bad but old 3G DA feels better because of its updated firmware.

The glossy sides of this mouse are a sweat issue just like the DeathAdder (and are according to xsreviews and overclock3d.net). It's a shame they can't include a grippy, moisture wicking sides so I'm not slipping in the middle of battle. The advertising on their site

..is lunacy. I'd love to hear what scientific research they're basing that statement off of that shows a lower friction glossy surface is going to act as a better gripping material for sweaty hands.

Its not lunacy although the describtion is bad. Basically the white coating offers a better grip. The mouse feels really sticky though and many do not like this. Hence the black edition. While I agree that a rubber coating on the side might have been better for the black edition the EC black is by no way as slippery as the DA.

I think only the "old" DA is capable of that, it also has a optical sensor, compared to the new 3.5G with a not-so-perfect laser sensor

wrong. 3.5G also known as 3500 dpi Da (new one) can have firmware updated to non-prediction. And it's also infrared optical sensor not laser one.

I won't decide that for you, but prediciton isn't that much of an issue and both of those two are solid mices/sensor, I think it's solely a shape-thing for you

How big is your hand? mine is around 18cm and i dont find the ec1 too comfy, maybe i should try a ec2, but coming from the 3.0, prediction is damn awful

if u don't like the shape there's really no point in using it... Pretty weird tho if u like the 3.0, feels like the EC1 was made with the 3.0 in mind.

haven't measured mine. If u like 3.0/DA or something along those lines -> EC1, wmo/1.1/mx300 or g1 or whatever -> EC2.

Another think i dont like is that the sensor is placed too far back, the mouse feels less sensitive to movements and it seems like its harder to make minor movements, would really like to try it with a sensor placed more to the front

Razer uses mostly Philips twineye sensors.
Coolermaster uses Philips twin eye.

Logitech, Steelseries, Qpad, Mionix,Cybersnipa use avago

Razer older mice and optical mice also use avago sensors.

If there's a physical switch : 1000hz then usbrate your way down to 500.
Otherwise just use usbrate.

I heard it's better to leave the mouse physically at 1000 Hz and just limit the refresh rate in your OS to 500 Hz with a tool like hidusbf

another comment I read (but could be it was about the Abyssus or DA 3.5G) was saying that the mouse is better left at 1000 Hz

Unplug the mouse. Then while holding the front side button down plug the mouse back in, don't let go of the side button until the wheel glows the color of your DPI setting (red/purple/blue).

I didn't feel any difference between 500 &1000hz.
500/1000 & 2000dpi: the feel is different but the three track well, it's jusr a matter of taste, imo.

Acceleration is a feature that changes the data your mouse provides. Same with prediction. Prediction in this case however, happens on the hardware level. Yet you can get used to prediction much like you can get used to playing with acceleration.

Sensitiviy also changes the data your mouse provies, If you are aware of this fact. The same as accel, sensitiviy is a good feature too. They both offer more convinience than trouble xD

I am aware. And prediction does not trouble me. Which is the hole point. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a bad feature in any way.
