I've owned or used the Death Adder 3.5g, Logitech G9x, Logitech G5, MX518, Salmosa for a while, Razer Copperhead, and a few others, in no particular order, and hands down the only mouse I haven't either given away or returned is the MS IE 3.0.
I am currently on my 5th or 6th, but it's a worthwhile investment in my opinion.
I use mine for all desktop + gaming use @500hz and it's definitely the most important single piece of hardware in my gaming setup.
Stermy uses 3 fingers, i prefere 2 fingers on the buttons.
Fingers need really to be placed like this, for a better grip. I improve a lot my LG just because of that. Took me somes hours to be confortable with.
That is the normal way to hold it if you let your hand rest on the mouseshape? :d
I don't see how you can hold it any other way than on the picture anyway.
higher tracking speed before malfunction, yes, but my issues with the death adder (coincidentally the mouse I've owned 2nd most often after 3.0) are the sides, which cause you to grip it more tightly than the ms ie 3.0, and the placement of the thumb buttons
The thumb buttons on any 3.0 are much flimsier, yes, but I have never accidentally hit them in game. With the DA I HAVE accidentally switched weapons (front thumb button is SG, rear thumb button is LG) mid-fight.
Also, the lift-off distance is much higher on the DA.
When I get home I'll take some pics to illustrate the grip issue.
/I'm not trying to convince you to switch, just explaining why I disagree :)
which cause you to grip it more tightly than the ms ie 3.0
THIS. That's the reason why I hated my da, and the reason why I had to switch from the wmo ( paaaiiin ) to the ie3.0. Gimme a wmo with the right side of the 3.0 and I'll be back into the " let's fap about our 7$ mouse " club though.
Don't you worry. When I win the lottery or if I can be bothered, I'll set up a hardware peripherals company where I'll make rebranded WMOs with a sweet ass sensor (no prediction, no accel neg or post, or any other bs high dpi crap) with awesome sides, maybe side buttons, a nice scroll wheel, cable and there won't be one flashing light anywhere on it
Then I'll sell them for $50 after I manage to persuade Cooller and Rapha to use it
Here's my wishlist. IE 3.0 shape EXACTLY, thumb button feedback of DA
"Always on" optical sensor capable of 1.4 m/s.
Braided cable, ala Logitech.
Scroll wheel like the DA, but not so easily broken, just same texture and sturdiness of clicks.
450 DPI
liftoff tracking distance of the WMO/IE3.0
front end sexy shape like the DA
Possibly different shells, for palm grippers like me for the 3.0, but another shell for claw grippers, kinda like G9 has.
But I disagree with side buttons. While side buttons on 3.0 are completely useless, I found side buttons on DA perfect in terms of size, positioning, and click. I even considered going back to 3.0 again but since I use side buttons all the time, it's impossible for me now to move away from DA. I can say I have 1800 dpi DA (not sure about 3500 dpi version, heard some bad stuff about tracking and shit), but with this modification on the sides and hyperglidez feet it feels close to perfect for me atm with already good sensor on it (no neg/pos accel and no prediction with upgraded firmware).
Ofc it goes without saying that 3.0 has better shape than DA (although they appear the same, but they are not).
The best mouse for me would be combination of 3.0 and DA:
Shape , weight and materials from 3.0, sensor with no neg accel from DA working at 500 Hz, and side buttons from DA. Basically perfect mouse :)

My thumb can't rest below the buttons on the DA. I think it's because it's so slippery, so I really have to grip it, so it kinda squishes my thumb out a bit, but my thumb is on those two buttons while I'm trying to hold it. On the 3.0 my thumb rests below the buttons, and I just lean it up to hit them. If I had smaller hands, this would probably not be an issue, so in all fairness, this is an entirely subjective complaint, unlike the liftoff tracking distance which noone with any sense would say they "preferred" over a mouse that was only tracking while it was on the mousepad.
edit: Yeah, the perfect mouse for me would be the IE 3.0 shell, but with sturdier side buttons, the scroll wheel from the DA, 400dpi, 500hz out of the box, and an "always on" sensor instead of one that clicks on when you move it, a braided cable like the 3.5g d.a. (I have that one right now) and some hyperglides.
I still have unopened packs of hyperglides for both the D.A. and 3.0
Gave a few away at quakecon last time I went, but I haven't been since '08 :(
Do you know any mouse that could replace the IME 3.0?
Trying to find pretty much info everywhere and it seems like about every mouse just sucks that comes to market. :D
Soonish I would want a mouse with working mousewheel :D.
Yeap, seems like ime 3.0 is like heroine which saddens me :D.
Even goverment sponsored substitutes are sold in criminal market and ppl buy more heroine :(
negative, its for people with large hands. I would LOVE to use the WMO (I go back to it every now and again) but my hands are way too big for it and start cramping up trying to claw the fucker after about 45 mins of gaming. Same with the Abyssus, my aim is a lot better as I have more control over the mouse but its just too uncomfortable after a while. DA and IE3 just fit in the hand perfectly.
here here, whenever I change I always end up going back to the 3.0 ...might give the Heaton a go and see that how pans out. We all just have to realize that no sensor will ever be bettor than the IntelliEye sensor :P
I owned the very very first edition of the Intellimouse explorer and my sister is still using it today on her mac ie 10 years later....its her favourite mouse ever pity it had shit optics and im currently using mx518 whos prediction id rather do without.
Can I be an honorary member for this?
Dunno, last 3 comp I checked were pretty recent ( between 6months and 2years old ), supposed to be gaming machines and were going 500-1000-500-1000 or were stuck around 700.
It's not the port, it's the mouse. People have reported a lot of issues running Microsoft mice @ 1000hz. Plus, a 1ms difference? Come on, no one can notice that.
Maybe people reported that the WMO and 3.0 have issues at 1000hz. Some mice have died, some mice turn off and on, some mice just don't work as well as 500hz.
that's because of how uncomfortable it is to hold, so that makes it feel a lot heavier than it really is. It's like a sportscar, the way it's shaped. The problem is, it's made to really, really stick to the mousepad. I need a mouse that really, really, sticks to my hand. :P
EDIT: Actually, the Razer Mamba looks like a much improved shape, simply due to the indentation on the right hand side of it. If only it had the D.A. sensor (assuming they fix the liftoff tracking distance issue) instead of laser I'd definitely get it. And yes, I'd gladly spend 120bucks on a mouse if it's as perfect as it ALMOST IS.
Is it normal that right mouse button doesn't click from far front? ;( Didn't annoy me before but i've changed my grip a bit now. I've had it always like this and I have had this mouse now for dunno how long maybe more than 6 months. Do you think it's possible to get warranty when I have replaced original feet with qpad glidz?
Hey guys I decided to switch to IE3.0 and I'm loving it so far.
However the stock mouse feet don't have enough glide for me. What are the best mice feet I can purchase in terms of quality? Hyperglides or something else?
biggest issue with these things, back when i used to use them i ripper the feet off and old mouse and super glued them on the ms 3.0 lol proper ghetto style
Nice! There was actually an alienware version of the 3.0 that also had that coating on the mouse and it was pretty awesome. I personally just got my 5th one of these and used up my last set of hyperglides I had in reserve. This is a "legends edition", and the only difference I can tell is the color.
RMA'd a new IE3.0 a few days ago, the larger side-button was unbelivably loose and too easily triggered. At first I thought must have got a dud, but when I search for more info it seems like a common problem, there is a fix which involves opening up the mouse and modifying the springs using electrical tape, but I couldn't be bothered, ordered the IMO 1.1 instead, MS quality control is rubbish which is a shame because the optical sensor in the IE3.0 was the most accurate sensor I've ever used.
Needed a new gaming mouse and went for the 3.5g DA. Updated to the lastest firmware and was still getting a touch of jitter on the pure trak talent so RMA'd it and bought one of these.
