So it seems that if you like light weight mice with no prediction, then the WMO 1.1a is the best that you can get... and has been for the last 10 years.
It was the first optical mice that I ever bought (in 2002), and when I 'upgraded' to the MX518 a couple of years ago I didn't know that I was leaving behind such a great mouse. I've never become comfortable with the weight and size of the MX518 but I need the side buttons for team speak in games like TF2. It's awkward to map movement+crouch+jump+teamspeak to the keyboard. I've also tried the IME3.0 (too big) and A4tech X710 (so close! just prediction + the shape is a little bit wrong). I don't like the sound of the tough-to-grip IMO 1.1.
The WMO feels so wonderful that I'm thinking of doing my own upgrade to address its shortcomings.
1/ Strip the cord. So much better without the stiffness.
2/ Glovepie script for scroll wheel - only register stroll if you scroll through 2 notches
and the biggest change
3/ Add a 4th mouse button via chording. You never press mouse1 (or 2) and mouse3 at the same time, so I figure I can wire a fourth button on the left side which completes the circuit for these simultaneously. Then I'd use Glovepie to map this to mouse4. The scripting there is straightforward.
I'm wondering if anyone has played with the circuit of the WMO before. From the board with the sensor on it to the one with the buttons are 2 ribbon cables. These must carry the signals for the buttons but I don't know which wire is the ground, etc. Any ideas?
