tvs will rape on dm4 and 2. they've played so much 2on2 in the last few months. Milton on dm2 is insane.

Rikoll and Valla should be very strong on dm4.

No qtv servers are password protected. I would assume that you are trying to join the game servers directly instead of clicking the actual qtv link. Open .qtv files with ezquake-gl.exe to be brought directly to the qtv stream.

People complaining about vods not being available...it really takes like 5 minutes installing nquake and joining the QTV stream with all the benefits it adds (multiview, proper stats, choosing POV, socializing with all the bright minded Quakers out there, watching games live etc).

For me, it is literally faster and easier (not to mention more high def) to install nquake and click "watch now" on a QTV page, than it is to find a VOD and start streaming it.

And the next month if you want to watch that one cool VOD again, oops, the link is broken! Meanwhile, you can still have the demo (a couple megs or whatever)

How retarted can someone be? You just set a new level. Do you think that pressing the “Watch Now” isn’t the first think that everybody did? You also believe that because it was installed successfully in your pc setup, it will be installed correctly, nicely and easy in every pc.

But what I don’t like is that instead of helping ppl, you just go on insulting. In the whole thread haven’t seen any informative answer, other than “It is easy and it only takes a min or so”. With that attitude, don’t expect much. Even for q3 and ql ppl are much more helpful. Go search for posts where someone encountered a problem with GTV or a setting or anything quake related and you will see that some ppl bothered to answer with something helpful and meaningful, instead of just insulting.

So I failed to install nQuake, because I have no idea where to get "quake distribution files" it asks for and nobody bothered to provide a link. So instead I just installed q1 normally + ezquake. Now I still can't understand how to connect to servers via that QTV page. It doesn't work when I try to open with ezquake. Says I might be missing pak0 or pak1 in id1 directory, even though I perfectly have them in that directory.

Guys, if you post something on a site dedicated majorly to another game, you could at least bother to provide some kind of FAQ. Thanx for wasting my time on Saturday morning.

Dude I just did this and it worked.

I created a Test folder and id1 folder inside. I copied pak0 and pak1 to id1, ezquake-gl.exe to Test and ezquake folder to Test.

Get the ezquake folder from that installation and copy it to a new fresh folder eg. Test.

Then I clicked on the watch now button, opened it with ezquake-gl.exe inside Test and it worked. It should work.

You only need 3 files (pak0, pak1, ezquake-gl.exe) and ezquake folder for this to work.

1. install nQuake
2. make sure you copy pak1.pak* from original game in nQuake/id1 (installer prompts you for this, but you can skip it)
3. open QTV page in browser and click Watch Now
4. open link with EZQuake.exe (if not already associated with file type, although installer asks you for this)

* alternately: if you don't have pak1.pak you can join random servers and autodownload missing maps

but on the other hand, if someone uses the shareware and his game downloads all the maps from the servers when he connects to them, his game will be upgraded to the fullversion for "free".

Quake's deathmatch maps (dm1-6) were made open source some time ago, so if that's all that's missing from pak1.pak to get a fully functioning QW installation, it is indeed legal

Not strictly true. The original map files were released, but need to be recompiled with different textures and probably called something like "freem2" before they could be considered legal.

I have no idea what's wrong, but I do all that, and it won't work. It tells me that it lacks "gfx.wad" and that the reason might be the absence of packs 0 or 1 in id1 directory. Both of them are there. =( No luck for me.

The distribution files are the files you use to install quake. Perhaps you are misreading the prompt, because it should ask you where you want to save them, not where they are located.

The thing with QW is that it is _responsive_. I've never played a game as responsive as quake 1 in my life, well maybe doom2.

There's just no delay from the time you hit a button to something happens. It feels like you're really _in_ the game this way.

With quake live/q3 there's always this delay. It's not long, but it's omnipresent. You have to decide what you are going to do slightly in advance because the game takes such a time to respond.

This is why a lot of QW players can't hit the broad side of a barn when they first try QL or Q3, they don't get that there's this delay to everything. Once you get used to it it's ok, but there's no substitute for the quake1/quakeworld experience of responsiveness.

Can someone briefly explain the damage/weapon system? I hear the commentator say in the last map of the 4v4 final say something like: "he got the quad with 150/150 and was fragged by a carefully placed rocket". Have i got this wrong or are the weapons crazy powerful?

Those were the best 4on4 finals I have seen in many, many years!

This certainly adds a lot of spice to the upcoming EQL playoffs (the most prestigious competition in quakeworld), just 2 weeks away. Will they meet again in the final? Will the absent-from-lan Fusion step up and take a place there where, other contenders, suddendeath have failed? Will en_karl finally lose to me on end? These are the questions which must be answered!

I think that the most pretigious thing in qw is winning QHlan when the top clans actually attend. Fair conditions for everyone you know.

Winning eql is ofcourse very important and thank god it's actually really close with 3-4 teams atm. Still tvs the team to beat.

If the 1on1 final had been played on scheduled time, it would have been much better. Try playing at top level 4:00 in the morning after 12+ hours playing already. Still miltons dm4 and rikolls ztn was great. Aerowalk was quite zzz, but the dm2 had some nice moments despite milton camping ramega the whole game.

Well it seems it doesn't matter how many people agree with this. Quakeworld tournaments continue to be custom-made for people who don't play anymore, and, if they don't play, how could they be expected to learn a new map?

As always, tournament admins have to be a catalyst for change, but in this case they refuse to take the risk.
