2GD mumbles like a bitch and has problems enunciating, but his info is great, and his accent is alright. Ichju or w/e sounds ok when hes using the german accent. Djwheat has a great voice but doesn't know jack about duel. Jehar is pretty good. Fishstix has a good voice but is green @ duel. Joe and NVC are alright.

Rapha is perfect. Great phrases, clear and nice tone for speaking, and insight into the game. And calipt is good too.
Strenx commentating himself is always gold

I dislike:
Greasedscotsman (sounds fake as fuck, and gives no info for duel)

ranking the casters is insulting tbh, but he's got a point somewhere - most of them aren't really professional (or they try too hard to be) and for duel I personally don't need casters anymore as I know the maps and positions on most maps

but nonetheless listening to toogood, joe, djwheat, slasher, nvc is pretty awesome

for tdm it's a whole another thing for me, I really, really enjoyed last weeks xt-front cast by dis/vor (I hope I didn't mix the names up) and I guess I could stomach

compared to lets say football, 50 % of the audience has a perfect understanding of what's going on ingame, thats why the level of critisicm is a bit higher...

I think that's mainly due to my voice having to come across mumble, Disreputes voice is streamed directly. I've checked the vod and the sound quality of my voice is variable. But it's certainly clear enough the entire time as far as I'm concerned.

I watched the VOD. Entirely his fault. He should have known better than to drop ztn instead of t4 against fazz.

No matter how you put it, reload played extremely poorly. He was lucky that the score was only 7-6 on t7, his item control was so bad that even I was shaking my head, and I'm terrible at it. Pretty much failed to collect yellows and avoid taking damage, and let fazz have both red and mega too often when he could have intervened.

He might have been nervous. Regardless, fazz played better, deserved the win, and I doubt the map selection would have changed much.

yes. stermy does all the basics very good and precise. This is why he doesn't screw up in games, hardly any mistakes. And also why rapha can't beat him. Rapha capitalizes on your mistakes, and tries to make none himself. So stermy plays flawless + has better aim = rapha is fucked.

But rapha is more of a strategist than stermy, so when he plays cooller/cypher/av3k etc he can wait for their mistakes or force them to make mistakes and win.

Stermy can't do that with them, he'll play steady and normal and they'll pull ridiculous moves on him and he'll lose.

+ assign for competing, willingness to improve and contributing to overall health of ql scene (I know; I'd have to plus a lot more players given that criteria)

Great match zsx and guard.

I think out of all the 'new' guys that these 3 can be really good.

ZSX - needs more strategy/ better weapon choices
Fucking aim is $$$
Guard - needs better +back game
+forward is awesome
Agent - needs better stealth tactics
looks like cooller without the traps/mind games

If they can add this to their game, they are gonna be really good. And not 'good' like madix/calipt/dkt good, but up there in top 5 good.

he wasn't really out aimed, just cyphers weapon combination destroyed him. ZSX when he has lg out or rail or rockets can aim as well as cypher, however he can't combine them to own people yet.

ppl like to see someone fights until the last minute, the last second, the last round. TBH, I think it's the basic requirement of a player to finish the game somehow, coz this is some kind of sportsmanship. Also, if someone is paid to play games, then he ought to finish the game indeed.

Quake is a game with fixed time length (not counting over time here), pretty close to football or rugby,and you don't like to watch a football/rugby game where players just stop playing after they were 13-3 down.

-in football the goals DO matter, be it for your +/-goal ratio or for the second leg in a playoff
in quake only the map counts, a player doesnt give a shit about the score

-in football theres a huge audience that expects the team to perform and pays to watch a match (and the players gets paid millions no matter what the results are)

- football is a team game, and not everyone wants to quit even IF the remainder of the match is useless. people want to maintain the team spirit and blablabla
this is not the case in quake, if you are strong mentally and purely objectively see that there is no chance of winning this game, you quit. why not?

in quake, it's a 1v1 where only winning the map counts and relatively speaking, pretty much no spectators
if you cannot win anymore, why not quit?

it's not like he flamed the opponent, he said GG and left.
i see nothing wrong with that, at all :D

i wouldnt even mind some flame, it's all in the heat of the game, but i guess i understand that people dislike that

True there are plenty of differences, but two things are the same in the 'pro' case:
1.they play quake as a sport
2.they get paid by playing quake

So ppl wouldn't be happy see someone quits early (in this case it's not that bad tho, as you said), under a not-completel-raping case. But I can understand why av3k gave up.

As I said, if they do it as sport, then there is sportsmanship. Why would a runner who fell over and knew he had no chance winning still finish the loop? I like to see the spirit, and enjoy the game play, not just the result.

The pros got sponsors, not only living on prize money, so I assume they don't just earn money by 'winning' but by playing good level games.

I wouldn't say the last minute quit by av3k is very bad, but i'm not satisifed coz i want to watch the whole game. I want to see whether av3k could manage to find a way to counter the rails by k1llsen, but apparently he thought he couldn't find a solution and gave up which made me quite dissappointed. k1llsen had a bad start in hub, but he kept on trying, even he lost at last I could feel his spirit.

their sponsors get most of their proper exposure at LANs in which the player has to go far in order to be exposed to a swarm of media. i don't think they give a shit if he quits some online game (which he couldnt win anymore)

it's a personal preference whether to quit or not, maybe killsen wants to break control to get his motivation or ego up, in order to start the next map equally, instead of with a moral disadvantage.

or maybe he just feels morally obligated to finish the map? i dont know how that works.

also, introducing a new point:
Look at SC2, EVERYONE quits before the game is really over.
as long as they dont flame etc (sup idra), nobody will cry about a player quitting before the end. Those players actually do get paid a lot and have high media exposure and are true "pro" players.

Well the situation is that basically av3k would definetly lose the games, but the players are still pretty much matched up (the score weren't ridiculous), no tier differences there. Under this situation av3k could chose to keep playing, knowing he would lose so no rushing, and just try not to lose more or just get some scores back. I don't mind the result there, I just want to watch the game and see whether av3k could hold himself together at a bad situation and play around against k1llsen. (On the other hand, watching how well k1llsen could control the game too) IMO, this ability is important to the players themselves too, if they had an early disadvantage, these skills can make them comeback in the game. So keep playing is a good way to train themselves in fact. Normally av3k won't have many chances to play a rail-mad guy seriously, why not taking the chance. He may meet k1llsen on LAN in the future anyways so why not trying to begin to find out a tactic against k1llsen by a little bit more playing?

Talking about SC2, it's quite different IMO. There's no fixed timelimit for SC2 normally... It's like playing chess-like game, if someone definetly loses but the game is not stopped, there could be a long long time before the game could actually end. You see, a SC game with someone quits can lasts >30 mintues (no quits then it could be 1 hour), whilst QL games are only 10 min per map... Also normally comebacks happen more frequently in Quake than in SC.

in quake only the map counts, a player doesnt give a shit about the score

the goals do not always matter. i.e. knock-out phase of the world-cup
also some tournament in quake have a rule that frag difference decides who get to select a third map.

I think if you can add everything up (the time it takes to kill someone with whatever hp/armor with whatever weapon you have, the time you can delay your spawn, the time it takes you to move from one side of the map to the other where your opponent spawns due to the spawnsystem [even ignoring that he can run away from you]) those 2 were already very much unlikely to comeback, then if you also add the other factors of who had control and that the guy in the lead can play hide and seek i would think the mathematical conclusion would be that you are screwed.

Tho yeah, there might have been a very small...tiny chance for av3k to get back on t4 but experience tells you thats not gonna happen. ^^

edit: the team thats behind makes a goal -> kick off -> they rush in somehow get the ball and shoot from damn far away, the goaly stumbles -> goal, rinse and repeat :D

Dude, K1llsen is on another level of play than Strenx.
One guy has done big things on LAN while the other has done essentially nothing.
I don't really understand your Strenx love here, it is as if you would wish for a Fazz vs. Cypher game.

I don't see why.
Strenx has played tons of LAN tournaments and always proven to be a very good middle of the pack player. Have you seen him in a semifinal or dare I say final of a tournament with 4 of the topplayers present?
K1llsen has taken his game to that level on LAN several times now, and after Gamescom he has confirmed this level of play online as well.

There is really no argument against putting Strenx a step below K1llsen, and it is up to Strenx to prove that he can be something on LAN. Dude is hyped by some guys on ESR that think that beating people online means much before every single tournament, just to lose in the quarterfinal once again.

If Strenx wants to be as good as K1llsen, he has to perform at tournaments. If and when he does that he deserves to be named in a sentence with championship level players.

watched kilsen pov demos vs. avek and saw nothing ridiculous about avek's gg's.

t7: Conceding the match with only over a minute to play, I think avek was smart enough to realize that kilsen was zoning and will hit every goddamn rail during that match, no matter where avek dodges, no matter which pillar he ducks behind or which direction he fakes or goes.
At around 5:30min(?) kilsen hits a predict rail from an narrow angle window as avek jumped to MH. Never seen that particular shot from that particular angle. Guaranteed to induce vomitting...should just use a special-case adjective for kilsen's rails -- "emetic"

t4: Maybe this map's smaller size somewhat diminishes the zing of a dead-on rail, but kilsen also strung together an equal and almost unfair number of rails, including a hat trick (if i may mix sportaphors).

Sympathetic to avek here because here you have one of the top three players players in the world, capable of rocketting the shit out of anyone, rabidly shafting anybody -- completely and relentlessly neutered by laser strikes into conceding the matches.

negative, i get called hack for far less. That t7 game was him spamming HARD! rails and hitting some of them. And the easy ones he always hit too, which is why i don't judge by acc. 45% rail for him is like 70% if he didn't spam at super hard shots.

then why rapha > cypher

I'd have to practice a lot to get some map awareness (to automatically always know where the opponent is, where i can go, when items spawn, when i can steal stuff and better timed attacks. All that comes by simply playing a lot) and better item timing back but i it feels like such a chore to do that so im never motivated enough. After all im not 18 anymore :P

I actually just made that number up, i have no idea what that LCD has but it feels similar to that viewsonic vx922 one used at ESL which has approx that. I don't mean grey to grey but what it actually feels like ingame :p

As far as I remember the only organisation that cared about this matter was ESWC (with the old ESWC crew)

The rest didn't give a shit as their main focus was to make money first. WSVG as a good example but there are others.

Well, if they used the ones sent back by retards and then repackaged ( yeah, the ones they sell for 20% less than the *new* *mint* products ) they wouldn't risk loosing too much money imo.

I think Z4muz/Av3k/Cooller would rather beat the crap out of anyone trying to even touch a screen than risk having to play again on shitty 2002 lcds.

Your theory is very valid.

You have to remember they have to get a fairly huge quantity of the same model to sponsor an entire event. (It wouldn't be fair otherwise would it?)
I very much doubt they are even close from getting enough monitors of the same model to be able to sponsor an event with that so they'd have to use new ones anyway.

as much as I spooged over kilsen's demos, i suppose im a fickle lover like plaZma -- and now every time a new zsx demo appears -- swoon time!

Zsx's got this weird mouse turn he does when he lands or changes directions...almost trakballish, reminds me of poloz or (im not oldskool) but didn't uNkind constantly rotate his crosshairs? Well anyway, zsx's got balls! (shaven according to plaZma?)

p.s. mentioned earlier by some posters but zsx's hektik v. guard beginning around 4:00mins left mark reminded me of Kratos brutally whipping the life out of everyone around with his blades. Shaft of Chaos!

ahah don't we all need to sort out everything else! Yea I was finished playing that Sparta expansion for God of War 3, and then watched zsx vs. UwU. Logical progression!

I noticed in some of his matches he "slowly" (very quick movement though) unloads his offense, in that, he's not a player who strat stops a lot to think or fake; but develops a movement pattern that accelerates as the match progresses. The opponent makes the mistake of getting caught up in that rhythm and finds himself a few secs behind trying to catch up to his pace.

I suppose that's also his weakness too, because an opponent like Cypher won't grab that bait but would instead vary and alternate his attacks to dictate his own pace to the match. Still an exciting +forward pov...and yes I'm aware of how borderline ghey the previous paragraph was. :)

p.s. peeplz who like great t4 matches -- check out zsx v. uwu! toenail biter down to last 2mins...UwU's moving on up too, like George Jefferson! (American retro tv reference =0)

well, technically and at the risk of being called a rule nazi he could appeal. I mean, according to the rules the frag differences are to be added.
So they could either take the final results (which would be a draw, durr), or check the frag difference on the 2nd map at the 3:26 mark.
