It's like multiplicity, each cypher clone is dumber than the next one, so the zotac cypher is like the 4th one so he's as smart as draven, so hes obviously shit. The Asus cypher probably has 3 fingers on each hand or something.

This game is dead in CIS. Last lan cup in St-Pete - 12 players. All QL ASUS Cups - not more then 16 players. It's a pitty, but this numbers = dead game. I wanted to host a TDM cup in St-Pete with good prizes... but I think there is no reason for it, cos there are no teams in Russia. I will make one more QL LAN in St-Pete on 26th of december, if it will be again 12 players, I think I will quit org. any cups in QL.

All good players that I know don't want to play QL, they play other games like: HoN, dota, WoW, CoD4, FIFA. Many of old russian quake players enjoy PS3 nowdays :)

I think it's steady decline. The thing is... I hosted "nonpro" cup with banlist for players like Cooller, Cny, kook, agent, Nitrino, me etc. With really good prizes for top6 (Powered by Kasperskiy). I wanted to host 3 cups. 1 nonpro 1v1, 1 open 1v1 and 1 TDM 2v2+4v4. After 1st nonpro cup (only 12 players) I desided to make only two cups - 1v1 nonpro and 1v1 open. Cos even for ASUS 2v2 was registered only 2 teams, then c58|d1monn (this man is the only reason why quake is still on ASUS cups) removed 2v2 and left only 1v1. 26th of december I will host 1v1 open in St-Pete. prizes are for top8. I hope we will see more then 16 players this time, if not I think this game is just dead in Russia.

The formula is the cause. Why would a low- to mid-skilled player who enjoys this game enter any cup? Everywhere I look, there's a seeding system that puts pros against noobs in first round. Where's the fun of that if first rounds are 100% predictable and the tourney begins in quarter-finals? Might as well have only 16 spots... and that's how it ends - you get 16 signups.

There was literally ONE noob cup this year (ran by PerpetualWar) and I watched the live coverage - the guys were really bad but there was quite a few of them and they had a lot of fun. Maybe I'd participate if I only knew it's _really_ noob cup (I suspected it will be one of those cups where rapha doesn't attend - turned out I was wrong, the cup was great)

Zo's proposal for a tournament is better (rating after every round and competing against people with same/closest amount of points, from first to last round). I'm totally looking forward to someone doing such tournament in 2v2 TDM at which point you'll see me and my mate participating.

How about divide the prize money in several online tournaments? Like Zotac, 100 euro each. Internet is much faster nowadays, and netcode has been improved anyways.

Mikes played WoW on a uber pro level, dunno if he still playing it, he works (smth with pc's) he also have a son that's why he did't find time on ASUS ENC QL TDM with me & cooller. LeXeR living on Bali for 2 years, he surf and pro poker. Polos is pro photographer, uNkind changed his name and surname doing some drugs i guess :), no one knows where is kik from b100. Death have a business, Cooller contact with him from time to time. Devil was spectator on last VQ3 ASUS cups in 2008... dunno what is he doing nowdays, don't know anything about Pow3r and Satan. PELE is gone, no one knows where is he and what is he doing, noBap wanted to start QL, but I guess he found ql boring...

I mean not only this players... even players that where active in VQ3, they don't play QL...

I was introduced to Q3 when friends had set up a mini LAN @home in 2000. I didn't even have a computer at those times:D. (dm17 ofc:). Liked what I saw and got me compi + Voodoo 3 1/2 year later, played some bots, next I would LAN with friends.
When we were too lazy to schlepp Computers around someone would host a server and we'll connect via ISDN, fill CTF teams with bots and have fun.
We were n00bs (no knowledge of strafe jumping etc.) but we had fun and could play with each other without any hassle.
Nothing of this is possible in QL. To hell with it.

Wrong. There is still no LAN support. For running servers one has to get Pro and so on. I can not start my own server (read: on my machine), just a server instance somewhere with narrow predefined settings.

Beside that, forcing new players to play against random idiots on the internet just to check out a game is maybe not the most helpful way to get them into Quake.

Are you still living in the 3rd world or something? Or is it too much to ask to learn a game by playing with strangers online? I play with real life friends online anytime any day. Hell my friend even used his 4G phone as a modem to play while he was in between moving. It's not hard, and every other game manages to get players involved via online only. That's just an excuse for lack of motivation. The real reason for QL's letdown's are many other things, some of which involve content too little too late. Not sure what you mean by predefined settings. id has opened up many options for server configurations by premium users, and are only adding even more.

Why hop on an internet server with bad ping (>35 everywhere, only that bad in QL ofc.) to play with someone who lives 3000m away?
About predefined servers: If you ever had spawned your own dedicated Q3/Q4 or whatever Quake server, you would know how limited QL's options are (like voting CPM or VQ3, 1v1 or 2v2 or CA or whatever whithout having to start a new instance).
Last time I started a CA server to play with a friend, it went like this: Server started, invite send (he has no Premium), warmup, ready-> disconnected me, invalid password (remember, I started that server). reconnect, played, voted other map, played, idiotic map rotation kicks in, vote again. With all the little wait times in between. Too much hassle.

Those are called bugs which made you have a bad experience. But taking that one experience and concluding that is how the future will be is silly. I believe things like that will be worked out soon enough. QL is built around a team that can continually work on and support it, thus all those little options and complaints that people have will become negligible and it comes down to content and enjoying the game-play itself.

last i checked top3 prizes barely covered traveling expenses in most prestigious tournaments. This isn't 2002 with 100k prize purse

but everything outside of top 3 fails and he will have a hard time getting there on his first international events so it only makes sense if he actually wants to go the for the competition/experience and finds a sponsor.
