Thanks for the reply, I am thinking about using my MX310 inner parts in the G3 as it does have a side button. But of course it only goes to 450hz so it won't perform like mx MX300 does.....

I just want a G3 that performs well. I love the shape and I kinda need that thumb button :/

Using the MX518 parts seems like way too much work though.

450Hz only limits a 400 CPI Mouse to almost 4m/s with a 8bit data path or do you mean 450Hz aren't smooth enough for you.

tbh I don't know. I am using the MX300 at 1000hz and I am happy with it. The question is if the MX310 parts at 450hz will feel just as good?

It's exponential. The higher the refresh rate is, the less you feel the difference.
So you'll maybe feel it's a bit different ( even though I always call placebo because you'll go from 1ms to 2ms )
but it's definitely not huge loss ( not even a loss at all imo )

500 hz and 1000 hz is no difference. Even at 250 its damn hard to notice anything.

Or you want to tell me YOU notice a difference between 1000hz (1ms) and 500hz (2ms). Seriously?

Just take a second to consider, that YOUR reaction time from the time you see something on the screen to you realizing you saw it and you beggining to press a button is 160ms minimum. (average is 200ms). I am not even gonna bother taking into account LCD lag here.

Then we have the mouse lag, which is at 500hz = 2ms. So now you are 162ms behind. Instead of 161 ms at 1000hz.

So the difference is what? 0.61%.

Nevermind the ping that fluctuates and the network stack.

On a side note the difference at 125 hz is noticable. 8mz is something a human can "sense". 4ms at 250hz is really pushing it in terms of a person noticing anything. That is 120 hz and we generally dont register stuff that quick.

I will not even go into saying 1000hz is taxing the cpu with useless stuff.

I see you know your stuff, but so do I - it was really unnecessary to write all that. I can't feel the difference between 500 and 1000 Hz besides from the sensitivity feeling slower with the latter. I only question that a human isn't able to notice the difference between 250 and 500 Hz., because I am able to notice a clear difference. Whenever I would play with 250 Hz I would instantly say something's not alright.

I've been always playing with 500 Hz, trying 1000 Hz for some time (when I had my first gaming mouse, a laser mouse which was capable of stable 1000 Hz) and 250 Hz for.. a single war. I found myself reinstalling my O/S about two years ago and used a modified version of XP which had the USB rate put at 250 Hz. I instantly felt something was not alright and started checking what that was and came to the conclusion that it was the USB rate. After applying 500 Hz everything felt fine again.

Yes but like many things in games you get used to luxuries that don't really matter.

its all very well saying blah blah I need a 1000hz or 500hz, but it still doesn't change the fact that most of the best aimers and players in the world (quake) are using really basic tech and 125hz.

All the HZ does it track a slittle smoother, but its such a small amount it would not really make a diff to change the outcome.
A week playing a pro is worth any mouse mod.

For 99.9% of the time its not making any real difference, other than placebo and simply behaving how you got used to.

If I would be a pro I would always try going for the best settings to perform best, that's obvious.

But the best players don't have the best "equipment" nor do they really strive for it because they know its mostly in your head.

depends on what you mean by BEST equipment, I do agree that you don't need to have the top of the range stuff to be the best however... if you compare a old soundcard and 5quid headset vs some mid range soundcard and mid range headphones.. surely there's a diff... same goes for mouse, mousepad, monitor... yet to see cypher walk in with a cheap beat up machine 75hz lcd monitor 5quid wmo and a 5pound headset :P

Cypher used a wmo, which can be bought for £5-6, to dominate the world of Quake 3 in 2008. If he ever changed it's purely because razer sponsors his team.

Don't have to use the best equipment != can use the absolute worst equipment across the board.

yeah fair enough i use a wmo too.. but lets give him my monitor that can't do 125fps and has to use 75fps.. also give him my headset that are cheapo's :P back in the day players used to rape with shit equipment because everyone else had it.. but nowadays.... sadly, it is in an improvement on visabillity, delay and sound.

Disagree. I know all that mouse/pad blabla is overrated as hell but there is a huge difference between 125 hz and 500/1000. In the end you prolly get used to it but if you can improve your play why shouldn't you use 500? I can't stand 125 hz because my aim gets even more shaky and I can feel the stutter.

Thanks but I totally prefer the MX300 shape and it is lighter too. I had the MX518 for awhile, also the G9x or the Xai but with the MX300 I feel at home.

Ah fair enough :D I much prefer weighted mice ^^ I aim better naturally.

So I received the G3 and of course the mainboard is built totally different from the mx310 or mx300 model. I also cannot use the existing buttons and simply plug them into the 310 board. So I would have touse the mx310 buttons which are way closer together ..... It is gonna be quite some work to get the G3 chassis with the mx310 parts to work properly.

Well never said it was going to be easy. Just focus on getting the scroll wheel working. Everything else will get there eventually

So I ran some tests in Call of Duty Black Ops. I am using 35cm/360° and the malfunction speed of the G3 is good enough for any speeds I hit it seems. It works best at 800 DPI (800/1600 without drivers) with 1000hz (using drivers). The lift of distance is rather bad though, so not sure if I can live with that.

I usually do some tests to determinate any form of acceleration in game. I focus a point, start the mouse at the edge of my huge pad and slowly move it to the right and then flick back a lot faster and see where the aim cursor comes back. With the MX300 the faster I move it back the more negative acceleration I get which I find strange because I thought it should work perfectly at 1000hz.

The G3 on the other hand always comes back at the correct spot even at quite high speeds (only with the 800 dpi setting). If I flick it too hard though it sometimes does not register and will malfunction. But I won't reach those speeds during gameplay.

I am using the win7 mouse fix from this forum btw.

So to me it serems that I should be using the G3 despite the life of distance since I dont have any form of acceleration in BlackOps at the speed I am moving the mouse.

Any input?

Won a couple of tournaments in my day using the G3. So its a perfectly good mouse, as long as sensitivity wise its about 30cm/360. No more. Plus in COD4 and onwards, flick shots became not so important.

Any idea why the MX300 got negative acceleration though? I can't find an explanation for that behavior.

I used the mx300 years ago and i did not overclock because it gave neg accel, even on 250 hz. But i played with 7cm/360° back then and used logi drivers, so i don't know if thats relevant for u.

I am not using drivers. Using the Mark mousefix for win7 which I tested to be active and I confirmed the 1000hz several times with Mouserate.
