Not really, excess maps just means that certain ones are guaranteed drops. I'm all for different maps but nine is overkill, we need a solid five map pool.

Yeah I never said it was the ideal solution. It's ridiculous they've got so many but it pleases everyone. They should really just start phasing out older maps like T4 and dare I say it maybe DM13 and ZTN

I like how all of u want the organizers to choose the maps for u. With more maps you choose for yourself and yes davjs certain ones (the ones that are not played) are guaranteed drops. That is good!! It gives power to the players. In addition there is fewer whines for missing maps and everybody has a chance to play on his favourite.

its not that much about the size of the pool but about the maps
phrantic and dismemberment just should not be in there because they are boring crap,
and i am not a fan of keeping old q3 maps in it when they are not needed anymore

I agree with phrantic and dismemberment. Dismemberment is so boring to watch.

Also, I don't thing new maps will help new players. It is just a myth, used to give new players an excuse and feel better. Old school q3 players support this myth, so that the new generation has the illusion that few new maps will change their fate. It is actually a trap!!

Phrantic is pretty interesting to watch I thought. The DaHang rey match was pretty decent

I think it's an interesting map because of the difference in dynamics. Just like you'd say T4 has it's original dynamic style or T9 has it's own kinda style, Phrantic has it's own thing going on. The DaHang rey match is pretty interesting to watch. Goes into the spamfest Q4 style a little bit sometimes but still pretty cool

how about: 9-map-mappool for low profile tournaments/leagues (hoq, national esl, bundesliga, w/e, zotac,..) and 5 (proven) maps for Global ESL finals, qcon, etc..

Their map might eventually not be selected, but that would be decided by the players and not the tournament admins!!

and u don't have to play all 9 maps. You can remove the ones u don't know or don't like.

ofc the tournament admins have a say on what map gets into the pool and what not.

But I think they (/we/us) should take the players oppinion into consideration.

Before the dreamhack tournament we asked about 25 players about which 5 maps they would like to see in the tournament. We got many answers and decided from that which maps we wanted to use in the tournament.

The size of the map rotation does not matter, what matters is the quality of the maps.

4 different mappools.
- 1 winter mappool
- 1 spring mappool
- 1 summer mappool
- 1 autumn mappool
That way you'll please everybody and maybe some interesting changes in the current top tier players per mappool tournament.

I got a few Indian mates who I've talked to about gaming there and say the technology just isn't wide spread enough for gamers there. China as we all know is fucked up politically... Probably doesn't help Quake is censored there...

Population is one thing. Circumstance is another. Fact of the matter is that the UK have plenty of successful gamers and the UK and US are technologically and socially pretty much equal in terms of gamers etc.

It's a matter of interest, Sweden has a fraction of the population of both the US and UK and have a ton of talented gamers. A country could have a population of 10 billion all with their own personal computers and OC192's, but if only 100 of those 10 billion might want to play QL, then that's that. The competitive NA QL scene is extremely lackluster compared to Europe, the fact that we can compete and win international tournaments is pretty impressive IMO.
