Always fascinating watching these guys. I think it's one of the most nuts things to do. Don't know if one can embed a vimeo video, so the link will have to do:
when watching the video I always asked myself how they do land on the ground because it is probably impossible to slow down the speed, but at the end you see they use parachutes :-).
All in all I think this is sport is only worth to be considered if you have no goals in life, because you really need to be lucky to survive that, guess the killrate is 1:20.
I'm still wondering whether my idea is possible in principle. on the one hand it seems physically possible, on the other i have never seen a (live) sailplane or a bird do anything remotely like it, so maybe there are some solid reasons why, freefall being too slow or smt x)
but surely i can make a paper plane, throw it against the ground and it can naturally incline upwards in a curve until it settles perfectly on top of the shelf exactly when it has lost all of its speed ^.^
Wow! If you get a kick out of risk taking; this must be up there at the top.' '
Does anyone know the purpose of the (what I presume) pressurised colour emitting gas canisters are for?
Is it to create a "safe" path for others to follow or does it create a small (yet noticeable) amount of thrust for a longer flytime; I presume the former?
Gotta say that looks super cool :)
Would the next stage be something like Felix Baumgartner's wings with propulsion (one of those new micro jet engines?)
