Bad Company 2 and Team Fortress 2 are probably the best really popular games on PC right now. Consoles killed the will of anybody wanting to make a modern deathmatch game.

Black Ops zombie mode is pretty fun, playing deathmatch online is retarded as fuck though, stupid(or brilliant) asswads camping doorways and such is frustrating as all hell.

These realistic war type games are not really a replacement for quake style multiplayer. Did everyone who played quake multi just disappear? Did they start playing these war games instead? They got jobs families and lives and stopped playing games entirely? I guess that last one is what happened : /

The community was never as big as people seem to think. UT3 had somewhat respectable sales, but it was short lived.

amen, bro. these snail-paced games have become the norm because they're not so demanding.

For myself and the people I know and talk to regularly that no longer play QL, we now play mostly SC2 and HoN, with some LoL and WoW. We are all tired of the same old shit in the deathmatch scene, and so are the other people that used to play that you speak of. Most of them are not too busy to play, I assure you; they just moved on to different types of games. I recommend that you explore other genres as well.

There is nothing as shameful as playing CA, your team isn't that great and you are losing 5 to 0. Yet, every round the opposing team camps one of the rooms on dm7. The same room. It boggles the mind whether people want to have fun or not.

l4d2, bfbc2, tf2, codbo, these are the most popular ones nowadays.

l4d2: is fun when you start, but gets very boring after 1 year or so
bfbc2: it's fun for pub (only got a few games of experience tbh), but don't try to play serious, because the netcode will take out your hair pretty fast.
tf2: also fun, it's a good buy, but became a gay pimp-fest lately, as it got trade and other silly features.
codbo: they sold a zillion already, so must be crowded, but I never bought it because the SP was one of the worst games I ever played in my life.

Sadly none of the games above come even any close to quake:(

Well, he asked what's popular now, if it's about what I like, I prefer QW, COD2 or Q3.
I would play Q3 but we only have QL now, so it's useless to cry about how shitty it can be, I'm gonna play it until it's dies out completely:(
