i am aware of the old post and usually i would help the poster out and just bump it and major his news but it was so horrible and done without any care (not one tag used, article instead of news, category not set, no image, nothing) and no ask for help so decided if i had to rewrite the whole thing anyway i could also do a new post

Is it because you aren't allowed to practise as a quaker just so you have an excuse when the tournament turns to shit ? If I go out early in this tournament atleast I know that I tried my best preparing for it.

Yes of course, I also try to prepare best before my games. But practising much also means being flamed on community sites.

Yet you can practice too much. Look at the koreans and their idiotic approach towards starcraft. Playing 12hours a day can't be healthy and you won't get better as well.

At a certain point in time one should look for quality instead of quantity. 8 hours of quake? I don't have to flame anybody to tell him he'd do better with just 4 hours and then some good sleep.

on the other hand those Koreans are way ahead of any other nation.

If you practice then you're a boring nolife loser who got no talent and has actually to work and practice to get good results, unlike really gifted players who spend their free time scoring girls and then just come and win.

those 8 hours could be spent in a real job where he'd get a decent and regular pay. but I guess he's having more fun playing quake than any other job :p

comments like this are stupid, he only said that he is motivated to prepare well and give it his best... the fact that he will most likely not be able to win against the best quaker in the world does really not matter here

Rapher(i don't know who the guy is, but that is what commentators call him) is the best quaker in the world, not cypher...

IMO cypher's gameplay is way more about quake, and rapha is like "zomg i need to be slow as fuck and abuse favoring +backers in ql to the limits of viewer's patience"
And yeah, I know that it still require skill/brainz/whatever but since I see him succeeding on competetive scene im starting to be doubtfull if "the best quake player" = "player with most of high places over some period of time"
Now I think that its only a matter of prefference, and yeah, maybe rapha will be named with that title in a future, but for me there are bunch of other players which deserve that title if not even more (as i said - prefference; when I watched for example last dkt vs zero4 match with all the flame/ping drama/aggressive plays I knew that I enjoy some real quake show, the list of games that come to my head right now is pretty long, but ill just mention one more - avek vs cooller on iem 2k10 euro finals, which is for me one of most memorable events in whole my history as an esports follower/watcher)

Well the whole "cypher is god of quake rapha is not because he's all times +b" seems a bit redundant after all this time. Agreed, it's all a matter of preference, like you said.

Are we watching a different cypher? He is +backing like hell too. The only difference is timing and looking for opportunities to attack. Cypher does look why more spectacular than rapha but he does +back a lot too ;)

Yeah, he does +backing, but like some1 said in some other thread : the only player that remained in circuit and still wants to be all-time agressive is stermy, and judging on his results from last tournaments it really doesnt pay off for him.
You can also say that cooller, even avek (who was before one of most agressive players in quake at all) play defensive a lot more than before, but its because they know that its needed at current state of the duel gameplay.
Also say that fox was pretty much defensive player, but for me watching all his tactical tricks and strategy execution was a pure nerdgasm, even if he didnt managed to go far in tournament standings.
As for Rapha he appears to be the best at utilizing that so called "balance" in duels, so that's why he's moust succefull at ql.

Cypher's games are more entertaining to watch than Rapha's, so that makes him the best by default :)

Good to see that kind of dedication in Quake these days.

As for preparation for tournament: I guess he's one of those players who can play this much during the day, though its still mediocre playtime comparing the time other pros put to games like CS/SC. 8 hours Quake a day is still impressive number. I've never ever played that much Quake, even if I could spend way more time with some MMO's, but never Quake. I get totally burned out after few games and I often need a break. I once played 4h Quake during the day and I guess it was my max.

Yeah, playing quake or sc for this long require some really strong mental and physical stamina, I still dont believe Fatal1ty about his amounts of practice per day about which he talked a lot in interviews xD

Madix truly made a name for himself at the Portuguese organization of Team Excello. During his time there he was visible in many tournaments in which he excelled.
