I have nothing against this kind of thing. It's really just a proof of concept toy for motion / gesture sensing which could be applied in many useful ways outside of games. However I like the idea of being able manipulate objects in ways using both hands more quickly, efficiently and finesse than with just a mouse.
Theoretically speaking, assuming a version of this device would come out that was as precise and fast as a high-end gaming mouse, I believe this could actually rival the mouse.
One thing this could do better at least is flick moves. If the view is turned by the pitch and yaw of the device, as in what direction you point it, it is a lot more intuitive than dragging a mouse across a mousepad. Need to turn 45 degrees in-game? Turn the controller 45 degrees.
Remains to be seen how well it actually works, but from a strictly conceptual point of view the idea is very solid.
thats not really true, more intuitive =/= more accurate. Your hands would be shaky and imprecise. IMO, even army guys with real weapons would struggle vs a PC player controlling a quake character, and you cant get more intuitive than that.
It would work if you dedicate a button for resetting the arm position. If one hand moved the pov, the other hand moved the crosshair inside the pov, Wii style, that could be great.
