Yeah there's also the imo ( wmo + side buttons ) but be prepared to open boith models and do some ghetto fixing cause these fucking side buttons are horrid.

thanks for your help, I've ordered a wmo and a mx518 and will return the one I like least.

if you decide to use a wmo, you should clock the usb port to 500Hz for it to really work flawlessly. you'll still probably have problems with the cable and with random mousewheel registrations.

i suggest you take a look at the razer salmosa, its also pretty cheap (~25€), its very small. and it has hardware buttons on the bottom side of the mouse for Hz and cpi switching, so also no drivers required. it has angle snapping but who cares.

ocing the usb port is not a problem, thje cable is not a problem and the wheel is not a problem if you still have enough fingers to ctrl+c/ctrl+v a 4 lines script.

this makes it playable for me with even the worst kind of cables (wmo/imo/ime)

the logitech g9x and the razer abyssus are small, light mice. especially the abyssus is light, however it has only 2 buttons, if that's ok for you, same as the wheel mouse. the g9x has the best sensor at the moment and exchangable shells, one is small and fits the fingertip grip.
the mx510 had a different shape, it's bigger, like a halved potato, better for a palming grip. you can get the logitech g5 or g500 today which have a similar shape, or the older mx518.

what sensor did surpass the avago a9500? whatever, it's not like some dpi more make a mouse. it's a matter of preference, as long as the mouse doesn't skip or have accel (or prediction :p )

yeah i agree it's mainly personal preference. that sensor has positive accel you can't get rid of though. it's in the sensor itself.

positive accel is so overhyped by people. On those mice, it really only happens as mid-low sensitivities and when you're moving your hand fast for 180s or whatever. If you're moving your hand fast for a 180, then what does it matter if it makes it faster by a tiny amount?

well i actually have a g9x. i don't use it but i bought it when it first came out. i don't like any form of accel at all and it made me inconsistent in certain games. i prefer 1:1 mouse movement with no accel.

The boomslang is from 2001. Fooled on that one yes, but that was from another era when being able to do research about mice was pretty primitive and the selection for 'gaming mice' was thin. Little did I know it wasn't worth upgrading from my IME.

Two Copperheads because the 2nd was a free replacement. The original Copperhead I destroyed with for several years till it started to fail under 1000hz polling and the feet wore out.

The Abyssus came from online store voucher from the replacement Copperhead being defective sensor as well. So even though defective, atleast I didn't pay for it.

Deathaddader works fine, I just do not like the glossy sides.

Thats a Diamondback Salamnder Red, there is no magma (unless thats what you prefer to call it), and it works perfectly to this day as my laptop mouse.

what mouse do you use?

I was on the g9x, then I won a Xai and used that for a while and recently decided to go back to my g9x. I'm going to stick with it for a good while. I was eyeing the Spawn mouse which has an updated sensor and dimensions close to the g9x but better grip/shape, especially for the pinky but I want to wait for further testing.

I think it's a bad shape, where u put ur ringfinger above the biggest side.
The most control comes imho from the thumb and the ringfinger on the other side, but with this shape u have to use ur pinky to be the opposing force for ur thumb.
I hated it on the ikari at least.

When looking for a mouse:

- determine the maximum speed you need to hit, and see if your mouse can handle it (benchmark #1, benchmark #2)
- search around to see if the sensor has any unusual problems (i.e. positive acceleration found with the ADNS-9500, which is the xai/g9x/g500 sensor)
- calculate how much DPI you "need" based on your resolution, sensitivity, and field of view (useful dpi calculator)
- determine if you want mouse prediction

Once you find mice that fit that criteria, you can start looking at things like shape/price.

I have to say this is probably the best advice here. I know even with my DPI set to 5000, I can easily do 360 in game turns with a slight nudge of the wrist. I can't wait to be able to perform several 360s. I know that some of you may say that changing sensitivity to a higher setting will achieve the same results, but that's out of the question and prefer the higher accuracy that obviously comes with a higher DPI. Razer and Steelseries are doing a great job and hopefully more mouse manufactures will take this into account. 9000 DPI is great but I just can't wait until DPI rises to 12000 hopefully in the near future.

P.S: I also use mouse smoothing because that helps me get all the headshots I could ever need.

One important thing to consider when buying a mouse is the ability to use a increased USB polling frequency to reduce mouse input lag.

In Windows XP changing the USB polling from it's default 125hz to 500hz or more is a non-issue. However in Windows 7 or Vista it can be quite a hassle depending on the type of your mouse you have.

E.g. the Logitech g5 supports changing the polling rate in it's driver while the Logitech mx518 does not. You CAN change the polling rate for the mx518 in Windows 7 but it requires some hacking, and may leave you with permanently compromised windows security.

of all the real issues that mice have, this issue should be the least of your worries, since you can just change it anyway.

if you happen to use linux things get a little complicated at this point, for me it was one of the reasons i didn't want to go back to mx300/wmo/ms3.0.

for everyone who both uses linux and has a need to decrease the input delay i suggest you buy a mouse that can change polling rate by software (which probably wont even work) or hardware

with some xorg config fiddling it's actually possible to "overclock" usb on linux, haven't tried that yet. from what i've heard it's a hassle on win7 too though, with safe mode and driver signing bs?
