hektik is an action packed map aswell but from most games its just who got first kill and from then on its pretty much biased. i know i know y'all be screaming comeback matches which happened here and there (inb4 z4 vs dkt). pretty much rush rush

on t9 there were more options to have thanks to the teleporters in the map...

not entirely sure if playing on them really differs that much since i'm not a duel player but as a spectator's view it shows what i told here ^

Having a huge map pool, doesn't have real drawbacks. You like a map, WILL be in, no whine. You don't like a map, drop it, no whine. As far as the time it takes to drop maps, huge lol. Few extra secs, don't matter. If it is so bad, do it in pairs or more, like player A: drop drop, player B: drop drop. Comeon is not THAT hard.

you can leave postprocessing enabled but you got to disable color corrections for your settings to work. At least thats what some QL mod stated. Can't wait to give those settings a try as I'm failing for weeks at finding a vertexlight config which looks nice and consistent across all maps.

I have a problem, since last update my enemymodel isnt bright anymore just a dull green. Do u know what commands are relevant? I have ofc cg_forceenemymodel keel/bright..

Never mind. I had r_ignorehwgamma set at 1 changed it to 0 and now i have brightskins again

I still don't understand r_ignorehwgamma, from what I've read it says it ignores video card correction when set to 1. I would think that would mean a consistent image across different video cards (computers), which would be nice for people that play on different machines on a regular basis (pros).

But someone said in another thread that that's not the case. I haven't seen anything it does that can't be done with other settings. Even more many of the pros that do use it also use r_enablepostprocess, which as far as I can tell disables/overides ignorehwgamma and gives you the "super"-bright skins.

why was it even removed? i wasn't playing or following duel much when it was in (and got out of) the mappools. to me it really seems designed with a good flow as well, and it would be really nice to have one more nonrail map.

@hek: as far as i can see that map gives the players more space to slow the game down and play smart than hub does. only difference is that you can get back in controll much easier on aero, but then it's nothing less spawnfrag spawnfrag than hektik IMO

Hektik and Dismemberment are imo both really shitty maps for duel. They do bring their own style but I think it disregards mapcontrol too much. Kinda same as why Phrantic isn't played - even if you have a full stack you just get SG spammed to death anyways. T9 was always an excellent duelling map and really fun to spectate aswell.

Perfect mappool for Quake Live imo would be:

-t9
-hektik
-battleforged
-aerowalk (but I personally would like to see t6 back in pools, altough there allready is a No-RA map in my suggestion with t9)

Like this, there is only one really old map, what makes the game more fresh and new and newcommers have a better chance in getting good at duel, because all the veterans can't simply count on their ~10 years of experience on ztn/dm13 or aero.

Cuz 4 out of 5 maps are really old and pretty much every player that played Q3 knows them in and out. Dismemberment was a CPMA map and also very popular in Russia/East-Countries in "vq3".

Please no t6... center room is overscaled for duel. If it was smaller it might be pretty neat. However, atm that room fucks up the whole map.

it was interesting for a while when all the strats were being worked out; then everyone learned how to slow it down, and it became boring. The best games on it were IEM Dubai, then it should have been dropped straight after imo.

T9 was boring to watch just before it was removed. Every game played out the same, and it was even more fucking boring when people played the +back teleporter game (hiho guard vs Cooller)

Id really like to see dm13 removed and replaced with t9. The pace of new maps like hektik are great and really shows the excitement that comes from quake, whilst slower maps are just boring to watch even if the skill required to play them at the highest level is probably more demanding.

Ztn feels like it has to go soon, we have all seen it before...a million times.

I don't understand why everyone feels like they need to keep the stock 5 map large pool. Why the fuck not include all the good maps and let players decide where they want to play? Two drop two pick system? So many options and yet they cling to this retarded system that rotates maps without any pattern or logic.

t9 is a horrible, one-dimensional map. It has no depth at all, just like hektik.

I prefer big map pools (even 11) and the selection should always start with drop drop. That way you don't have to whine for maps u don't like, you just drop them.

Except that the larger the pool is, the bigger the chance is that you'll get mediocre matches unless people favour the same maps. If that's not the case then both player's favourite maps will be eliminated and you'll play maps that neither are good at. Dismemberment is such a map.

u usually eliminate the maps that u don't like. Eliminating opponents best maps even though u like them is sad, it is a fun game after all.

Actually that is probably the bigger problem with ql, everyone takes it way too seriously. That explains:

-all the whine
-the witch-hunting
-the seedings used even in amature online tourneys (to make sure that the best players will move on ... omg is so imprortant to absolutely eliminate luck)
-the absence of handicaped tourneys (even though id had build ql with a handy handicap functionality)
-the semi-final between cooller and strength, that everybody gone copletely paranoid for some lags, like in every other sport the conditions are always perfect.
-the tier-slamming

and the list goes on and on. Nothing can change the fact that it is a computer game and is pld by mostly immature ppl.

You eliminate the maps that you feel you are most likely to lose. In case you know/practiced all the maps it are the maps your opponent is actually good/best at. The fact that dismemberment was played a lot at dreamhack while noone really likes it implies this.

Given that, each 2 maps you add (as it always goes in increments of 2) means you have to practice at least 1 more map if you want to prevent not knowing the maps in a tournament, it is questionable if that's fun for the amature player.

I don't think it's too much for a double elimination tournament grand final, because let's take msi beat.it finals for example. The final score was 3 - 2 for rapha, but we saw only four maps, obviously because cypher had one map advantage, and I think this isn't good for bo5 grand finals, let's have a bo7 grand final and give one map advantage the player from the upper bracket. So we see at least three maps in the grand final instead of just two.

Back in the day, when Deathrow played (and failed) Clan 9, they played 5 matches netquake and 5 matches QW.

Never really fancied t9, but I also think dm13 is a boring mongrel of a map (and uh, i'm actually not a rail fanboy, believe it or not).

I'd rather see dm6 back before t9 for sure. I think dismemberment needs more of a chance (the handful of games I've played on it I have mostly enjoyed), t4 is still wicked (I've had some intense mind games with great players on it) and I'd much rather bf than dm13!
