Damn how i hate this! You played a nice match and want to rematch. Enemy dont leave after the 1st round and your waiting for 2nd round to start. Enemy dont press f3 to be ready..wasting 3 minutes, than you please him to "make ready" and than "name" disconnected

What the hell is going on in their heads?!

Stats whores: I don't tend to be that bothered by these guys, aslong as they only leave near the end of the game. Those that leave in the middle piss me off!

Wannabies: Generally best to ignore them, if they rage quit, consider it a win and wait for someone else :)

Kids: If they won't leave the server, find another yourself or make your own..

Stats whores: someone appears to be owned pretty fast in several rounds in a row CA. I wouldn't blame quitting in that case as you play for fun.

Wannabes: by getting better in the game you will get such cases less. Let's say the further you are from being wannabe (in terms of skill) the less wannabes(in terms of behavior) you will meet.

Kids: I don't think you get so many of those cases to mention it. premium account might help you ;)

Just don't care about such things

Did not read it but all I can say that QL has been quite active lately with leagues going on, jaz cheating, dreamhack announcing a tdm tournament and me making a video how to do it deep inside.

I'm not afraid to ragequit a public server. Fuck even teams when you're the one carrying a team and the rest of your team seem to do nothing but shoot rockets at you and block you (oh god I love public CA).

Don't do it often, but stats I couldn't care less about. Stat padders are a bit... whatever. They're a bit tarded. I'll play out a duel game even if I'm so far behind because I don't particularly want a quit stat. Maybe there's a stigma attached to it. Don't want to look like a whiney ragequit fuck (even though I am tbh)

I admit I'm prone to stat whoring though. We all are in some way. It frustrates me when a game I played stats doesn't show cause QL bugged. I wanna see dmg done and shit. I don't stat pad with wins or losses or whatever, but mainly with accuracies. What can I say... I'm an accuracy whore. Not that I'm hitting like one lick of LG on an enemy to get 100% or something, but genuinely trying to hit good shots.

Have come across those type of retard kids on duel servers. If they don't leave and I cba to leave and get a new server, I just tell me mate "okay, just go afk, toilet, whatever for a bit" When we come back they inevitably have given up. The true hardcore ones fight fire with fire and go afk themselves. Those are the true trolls.

I'm pretty much the same tbh.
I really don't feel bad about leaving pub CA midgame, I just can't take this gametype seriously.
And if I'm carrying a terrible team and no one wants to switch (the stat whores are never gonna switch and risk losing a few rounds anyway), why should I stay :c

lol, I remember playing dragonetty a few weeks ago and he indeed called me a cheater after only a few minutes :p I hadn't bothered to check his profile but I just looked at it and you're right, he seems to be quitting a LOT of games when he doesn't get the first frag :D

Nothing has changed.
There were always stats whores and rage quitters. Even in quake3 where we havn't had stat-tracking. Kids and wannabes are everywhere, all the time. Nothing new there.

I'm a bit bothered by your use of the word "community". There is no quake live community. There never has been. quake live came out trying to merge all the small, scattered old quake3 communities. it didn't work out.

quake live killed the best thing there was in quake: pickup games. for over a year there were no private servers. some people tried to do pickups anyway, but it didn't work. now there are private servers, but there's still not that many pickups played. maybe because irc isn't what it used to be. or maybe it's because it's somehow to hard to build a small community inside quake live.

for me, quake was the best when it's communities were small. being able to play pickup all day, with the same range of people. being able to come home totally drunk at 4am at the weekend, and finding the same guys that were playing when i left at 9pm. seriously, that was the best thing ever. for a while i tried that with quakelive. didn't work. i ended up sitting there alone, totally wasted with no one else playing.
maybe the friendlist/friendchat killed it. maybe ql needs chat channels, i dunno.

i don't care about stats i look at my accuracy during the game, yes, but i'm not playing to get better stats or something.
i join a team in ca even if it will make teams uneven. since when did ca pub players start caring about even teams? in ra3, nobody gave a shit for 3 years. at the start of ql, nobody was interested in it either, but for the last 6 months people get all mad when teams are uneven.
i quit games when the game is over. if it's a duel with 20:-1 score and 5 minutes to play, i quit. if there's a ca games and the score is 9:9, i quit. because it's already over. fuck win/lose/quit ration, who gives a shit? do people look at those stats? at least i never did, not on my profile and not on other peoples profiles.
whiners / wannabes / kids exist since the dawn of man. just ignore them. i almost never respond to people i don't know talking to me in ingame chat.

not sure if it's possible to change quake live in a way i'd be able to enjoy it more :-)

- imo there's no need for gtv. i would choose streaming over gtv in any circumstance.
- ladders would indeed be cool, but that's just for duel. the way i see it, duel hasn't changed too much since quake3 and doesn't really need to be changed. it's too simple, just two people playing each other. either you play against a friend, or you play against some random dude who is possibly an asshole. there's no more range than this :)
- built-in irc will never ever happen. but maybe a more streamlined solution? something like the esl gather system would be awesome and might help pickups to come back.

It seems your problems have more to do with your friends moving on after quake3 than the state of quakelive. Centralized servers do better to knit a community together than the horrible Gamespy years, and people found ways to do pickups before they allowed private servers.

mhh i wouldn't say that. it's not about the individual people, but about a community in whole :-)
there's just no centralized "place to go" for [clan arena] players.
you can go play on pub or you go ask people individually (ie: over ql chat) till you have 8 players, so you can play some matches on a private server.

as i said, there's no "community" in this. it's either play with random people or play with friends only. that's fine for duel, but team games need something in the middle. like pickup :P

sure, people found a way. but it's not really used anymore. and that's got something to do with quakenet not being the place to be for a gamer anymore.
ql does everything for you. it gives you stats, a friendslist, serverbrowser, a forum.
none of those things you had in quake3. you don't need to get on irc anymore to stay in contact with people who play. and that's where pickups fall short, as all the newer players don't rely on irc anymore. that's okay tho. that's somewhat of a natural progression.

but i'm really in for a esl-gather-like system for the ql website to fill the hole between playing pub and playing with friends only :-)

Well, for me its just a sign that quake is gaining popularity, these are kind of kids you can find on any other popular game communities, playing on public servers from dusk till dawn (xD), acting in retarded way depending on type of gameplay (personally Im so bored with playing on ladder of sc2 because of them that I play only custom melee games and team games with some my friends)
If game is loosing popularity, majority of players which stay at it are matured persons which know what kind of game they want to play, so they arent following any other "trendy" games.
So I mean that there are some new waves of players, some of them will stay for longer, others will pass as fast as they've come to the community, pretty normal and really standard phenomenom.

The problem is that even quite known, good players who are a bit bellow the top-tier players do this kind of stuff as well, especially when they lose vs "randoms" (unknowns), their ego is so huge that they either: whine, whine&quit, talk shit (luck!) or say that they're out of shape/drunk/played carelessly/ etc :D

Played against a guy called "PimpParade" a really dumb kid but he knows how to flame :D I fragged him first (wasn't lucky or so) and he wrote "nub". Called me "nub" after everytime i fragged him. Sometimes he says "fucking lucky noob". But thats what i mean with "kids". Guys who dont know how to play and if they loose they are raging.

Hes QL member since Feb. 19, 2010 btw.

But i guess on my current skill level (low/med) you always get such guys. It's hard to find players wich are mannered on this level. They are always raging, leaving, flameing.

yeah, it's kind of silly.

the background base of people who've played quake for 5+ years but is currently not very active is enormous, so it's quite likely if one is active that the player one loses against is actually better but out of shape if he's unknown xD
