Purely preference. Don't think it should affect malfunction rate or acceleration, however some highly textured surfaces COULD induce a higher probability of jitter. COULD, not saying it will.

Some people find more accuracy in using higher friction surfaces. Smooth feels natural though. Im currently using an artisan g3 but am going to try glass next.

Higher friction: easier to stop on a target. More forced needed to move around / more force needed to move from stationary position.

Went from a QCK Heavy(high friction?) to a Goliathus Speed and it felt so much better, eventually switched to a Puretrak Talent(razer pad got so damn dirty so damn quickly). Would never go back to a high friction pad.

Went from qck+ to goliathus speed. Won't go back as the pad is fucking great. A bit too thick for my taste but the mouse feeling is great. In the beginning I struggled a bit with my game as I moved my mouse a little too fast. But know as I adjusted to it it is way better as the qck+ imo.

I eventually want to try a goliathus too, coming from qck heavy.

I already own a puretrak talent, which offers too little control for my taste.

The ideal pad for me would be something that helps my mouse glide really fast with no resistance but still feel a texture at the same time, like steelseries SP + explorer 3.0 + hyperglides, but those hard pads have no cushion at all, they make your wrist feel sticky, they wear out in a matter of weeks developing smooth spots and there's no way you can play with something like a 40cm+/360 sens while using one due to size.

I freaking love that combo too, sp=slickest pad, yes the surface is grainy/rough, but its very low friction, love that grainy+slick feel. But yeah the sp is too small for me and wear out too fast, requested a peripheral company to make a slick pad, but according to them users dont like slick pads, high friction pads sucks, big time

I just received my spawn G-TF and made the switch from the new 1800dpi mx518 to zowie 1.1 black, FUCKING PERFECTION !!!!!!!!! I highly the zowie shops for europeans, the fedex shipping is REALLY fast and they charge 11 euros wether you order just a pad or a pad + celeritas + ec mouse ( just checked it ). Maybe i'll get a zowie ec2 black sometime in the future, don't know yet, 1.1 glides like a dream now :D

I like high friction because I'm used to it. In the old days I would be like: The less friction, the better but I think it is really personal preference.

Back then I used an everglide (that was around 2001 I think) with a ms optical 1.0 which was shit. I used some spray to make the mousepad glide better. I also used mouse feet and other shit and I'm pretty sure that i though I would hit better but I did not. xD

I had always played with mousepads with a lot of friction like everglide titan or allsop raindrop and then somehow I tried Icemat and I believe I won't change it in future. Mice's on mousepads with a low friction are more responsive and I like that feeling even if on the beginning it was hard for me to get used to this.

I like friction tbh its personal preference.
Qck+, - , heavy tried all but in the end I find Qck is best for me. It wears out quickly but love the friction.
Other pads like Razer Mantis speed/ destructor/ goliathus/ eXactmat and Steelseries 5L etc but I find no control on those mousepad.
Wanted to try Icemat but feels like it will ruin my mouse feet fast and it makes horrible noise and its way too small for my taste too.

Also the Goliathus Speed isn't the fastest, the Control edition is hypocritically and confusingly faster

if I remember correctly everglide titan is same as razer mantis but dunno which one speed or control

Different one, he plays CS (lame game), I play ET and casually Quake.

Although he earns all my respect (not by his game selection though haha)

e: the Goliathus Speed is not the same as Mantis Speed was. It's not the same pad, just rebranded. The Mantis Speed is very similar to the Everglide Titan imo.

It's a personal preference, you'll get used to either as long as you play enough on it. I play on an icemat which has near no friction, the downside is that if you have a sweaty hand or like to spray cum on it like Dird, it will get pretty shit.
The problem I have with "friction" mousemats is that they wear out, the middle gets "quicker" than the rest. Cloth can "absorb" too to make it uneven but not as much as with an icemat.

i was using an allsop raindrop xl before i changed to zowie swift based on the recommendations of some esr users. the difference is of course like night and day. really satisfied with the swift although it wears out my hyperglides rather fast and the size is too small for me. also i'm afraid that it will wear out in time.

btw may i know what are the opinions of icemat users here? i heard that an icemat will never wear out. is it true? which one has lower friction?

I think the Artisan pad has quite a nice balance between the two. As in u can stop easily (like high friction mousepads) but u can start your motion rly easy (like there is no friction). One of the main features i like the Artisan Hein g3.

the soft version has a lot of friction actually, that's why I've gone back to the Zowie G-TF

The Qpad CT has the right amount of friction for me (much lower than the worn out QCK I had before) but I'm afraid it will wear out quickly though.

Tried out a qpad CT and I have my own icemat, prefer the icemat even though people say it has too much friction it feels perfect for me and my setup, really nice and smooth especially if you clean it regularly (which I don't do because IMO it's just a bit too smooth if you clean it that much!)

Not really sure what to say about the qpad, didn't try it out for long because I preferred my icemat so much more! :O)
