Hi guys!
Just want to tell you that I've been sharing my great map ideas with id software, and they've listened very carefully to me and it all resulted in their decision to bring in a completely new map pool for QuakeCon 2011 that will take place from 4th to 7th August in Dallas.
There will be four new maps specifically designed for competitive map pool, built with help of valued insights from multiple times world champion in Quake series. I cannot disclose any details, but what I can tell you is that there will be:
1) A new awesome space map inspired by one of the classic Q3 arenas that all of you will love instantly!
2) Two recreations of VERY famous maps from previous id software games, specifically tweaked for QL competitive dueling
3) A map with concept never seen before in competitive map pools, I cannot tell you what exactly it is, but let's just say it has a very flowing gameplay, that is super exciting!
I know that it is long time before Quakecon, but I just couldn't resist not to tease you guys a little. It will be best Quakecon ever, I assure you!
UPDATE: I accidentally learned one thing that may be very important for players attending QuakeCon tournament. Apparently, id software plans to keep the actual map pool secret until the very last moment. When the tournaments will be announced, they will have standard, non-suspicious map list. Then, at the beginning of the event, John Carmack will give his keynote where at the very end of it he himself will change map pool to the great amazement of the audience. This is supposed to be secret information, and I am at risk to be banned, but I think it's not fair for players to not know this beforehand. Anyone who plans to attend Quakecon tournament, keep this in mind when practicing maps for it.
UPDATE #2: For all non-believers. I just heard from John Carmack that the space map is currently released for open beta testing. ENJOY!
