so it fixes wsw's terrible weapon and armor balance?

some time ago I posted the very same thing about that armor cycle and people at wsws forums didn't know what i was talking about. It's like the developers want low scoring games in duel

Nah, it does not fix it to the full extend, but that's also not possible by only tweaking armors/weapons, since a lot of the cycling and close combat mentality of warsow comes from the insane speed you can get with it's movement and the general scale/size of the maps used for duel.

However DRAMAMOD makes it a little bit more difficult to cycle armors since you have to damage yourself more and you are in danger to get killed while you do so. Also the games become less RL-heavy and you have to use other weapons more to get clean kills (these are getting more important because of the new balance).

However DRAMAMOD does NOT turn W§W Duel into a slightly faster QL/Q3. You still will mostly see scores somewhere around 20:10, and you also will still se a lot of plane RL to RL fights. But it's allready a step in the right dirrection imo :).

From what I understand, you cannot pick YA if you have RA, unless you damage yourself in order to pick it up, which seems redundant.

Anhe, its the same system that PK and CPMA and QW use, but with different values. RA gives a fixed ammount of armor that does not count down, same with YA and GA. If you want to pickup YA after picking up RA you need to damage yoursel untill you are below the AP-cap for YA in order to pick it up.

I occasionally play some CPMA and I've been spending, although a relatively short time, duelling in warsow, armor system is not unfamiliar to me. Are the values of red and yellow changed?

Also, did anything change from rockets when warsow went 0.6? Just played some yesterday and it felt awkward.

The armors are like this (cap means that you have to have armor-values below this nuber in order to pick the armor up):

GA =100 Armor (Cap: 100)
YA=125 Armor (Cap: 125)
RA=150 Armor (Cap 150)
Shard= 5 Armor
Max Armor: 200 (Does not count down so if you have 200 you can't pick RA up unless you damage yourself below 150)

I think they've fixed the lag the rocket-launcher had.

I think they've fixed the lag the rocket-launcher had. Thus making rockets even more unbearable cause they spawn at a distance based on your opponent's ping even though you might be sitting in the server room.

But eh, it's not as if this release had everything pretty much right for once and they fucked it up to compensate for people stuck in 97.

it aims mostly to change the duel gametype and make it more fair and not armor-cycle dependent (like player gets Red Armor, rushes to Yellow Armor, selfdamages himself a little and pick it up, then rushes back to Red Armor and pick it up, making a comeback for the out of control player impossible).

I assumed warsow armour was pretty much cpm style cos its just a copy of cpm :P

Erm, no it's not a copy of CPMA it's a different game with same roots (which obviously are Quake World). And it does stop it to some extend. Ofcourse you can cycle armors, but you will think twice if you want do that much damage to yourself in order to pick up a lower armor, especially because your opponent could rush you while you are damaging yourself and kill you/swap control.

no, i was involved with wsw from early on, i had it on my HD almost 2 years before it was released to public, it was made by french players who didnt agree with arQ changes to cpm when he took over the project

Hmm, last I played it (0.4something), wsw's armour system WAS pretty much the same as cpm, except armour was stronger than cpm's (and/or weapons were weaker). I always hated how that made fights completely inconsequential and shifted the focus almost entirely on flying around the map to get the armours (self-damaging to pick up YA's was never a big deal anyway).
If they changed it to a vq3-like system in later versions, I would imagine it was done mostly to avoid using the same armour/weapon values as cpm, as it seemed that their primary concern when doing balance changes was to move away from their cpm roots, while at the same time not daring to take a completely new direction.
Sorry if this sounds like flamebait, it's not meant to be :P
