A mx518 skipping at 400dpi? What the bloody hell!

Is your pad worn out or something?
Some people say that the mx518 v2 has problems with black cloth pads (it deffo did on my QCK), maybe yours is one of them.

He says he plays with 1800 DPI instead of 400 (while the MX518 performs best at 400 DPI, which he probably doesn't know).

I have four MX518's and all are working fine on any pads, including black ones - two of them are v2's. Though indeed I heard people saying the MX518's v2 doesn't perform as well as the first one did.. well, at 400 DPI it does work just as good as an old MX518 (after that you only have to choose which style of mousefeet your prefer).

He also says this :

Mx518 has not consistent 500hz. so it tracks weird sometimes try 250hz.

Ec2 is good if it suits you. If not you will find it way too sensitive tracking.
Side does get sweaty as it has same material as Deathadder.
Top is ok. Rubber cord is brilliant and mouse has prediction.
Tracking feels very weird to me but it might be fine for you.
Scroll wheel bug is not very annoying to me but if you get EC2 with scroll wheel bug and you use scroll to switch weapons then you will be pissed.
Weight is 97/ 98 gram ish which is fine.
EC2 has ASDN 3060 sensor? Mx518 has 3080/e sensor I think. They all have their good and bad.

You might look in CM storm spawn as it has 3090 sensor which suppose to be better except high LOD and shape.

P.S. EC2 is overpriced.

is this an issue at all if it does not show 500hz the entire time? i mean, does it have any effect? i cant tell any tbh. my mx518 has never skipped an inch! checked mouse rate and it did what i suspected: the slower i move the mouse, the lower the hz is. so i can get it to 80hz but when i move it fast it is at 500hz. so what is the problem here?

Its like try making circles in mouserate set Deathadder Mx518 WMO 3.0 @500hz and see results.

Deathadder (mine 3g) is more consistent 499hz
Wmo or IME 3.0 are like 450 to 499hz Average pretty good.
But MY Mx518 jumps like 350 / 450 / 600 not stable
Xai 490 / 514 which is also good.

You even can see mouse jumps from prediction or random cursor jumps from mice in mouserate. Mx518 is more stable at 250hz.
I can see lag on my monitor if mouse is not in 500hz.
I have smooth gameplay only on 500+hz mice; if mouse hz jump from 200 to 500 I see choppy moments in game.
I only see laggy gameplay when I use Mx518 @ 500hz other mice are fine.

Just my opinion tho. Mx518 is good mouse. It just need to tweak by logitech themselves for 500hz or Hidusbf (sweetlow) should update value to 333hz which will also give Mx518 stable hz.

Dunno what those guys are talking about, any MX518 has always been perfectly stable for me. Variations were within +3 -3 range (503, 497) - this is what I consider perfectly stable.

Also, I don't know what the faults of the ADNS-3060 and 3080 sensors are. The oh-so-hatefully-hated prediction? Haha

Ikari Optical has an ADNS-3060 too, working perfectly for me as well.

I saw the mouse skip or actually freak out and make my crosshair look at the floor when i used : raw input 400 dpi in CSS, at 1800dpi it has a low perfect control speed compared to my abyssus but that's to be expected. ( checked the esr mx518 perfomance graphs again, max tracking speed 1.5m/s when using 1600dpi )

Keep in mind that i experienced this behavior in two mousepads ( sharkoon 1337XL black and func c-series XL grudge ) when i moved the mouse VERY fast, i usually do smooth and controlled movements even when i play with a kinda low sensitivity so it doesn't really matter if the mouse skips when i move it around like a spaz for testing purposes.

I just switched my mouserate to 250hz fired up CSS and did another test, it still skips at high speeds :S I do a really fast swipe from the left to the right and instead of doing a 360+ turn it actually does a 180 one eventually pointing to the floor :S atleast now they poling rate is much more stable ( 249hz all the time while doing small circles with the cursor constantly )

I think ergonomics wise the ec2 black should be perfect for me, all i really want is a smaller explorer 3.0, I loved the rubber on top of the abyssus, plastic sides don't annoy me that much ( they should be made of rubber but you can't have it all :) ) prediction is really non-important to me, and i've discovered its existance long before that stupid fragyou article, I made a thread about it at the same when the article came out because i wanted to see what the esr community was thinking.

What's so weird about zowie EC series tracking ? I'm planning to use it at 500hz 500dpi ~ 43cm/360 and 1000dpi ~30cm/360, any shops selling it cheap at the moment ? ( global.ebay.com is not helping at all ! ) I just ordered a zowie G-TF through their shop on friday, how do these two work together ?

Kaleena most of my pads are dark coloured, i tried a qck+ fnatic limited edition just for the heck of it, still could't do a complete 360 turn, then i tried a puretrak talent, fuck me it works ! there's no way i can make the mouse skip on that pad, props to puretrak :D

Btw my old blue mx510 glides much smoother and faster than the new mx518, granted it had the weight removed from the inside and the 5 small feet were replaced by hyperglides mx-1 but still i expected an improvement in glide or atleast a similar feel, " low friction feet" my ass !!!

ehrm.. why not go for the Razer Deathadder Black Edition? Sounds like a plan to me :P

w/o setpoint mx518 easily does 4+ m/s at 400dpi while at 1800 it will always skip like hell

1.0 sens 1800dpi is about 30cm/360, are you sure i would get the same sens with a 400dpi at a 1680 resolution without skipping pixels ? Practically i don't notice any serious difference but theoritically it's smoother and more precise that way.

Btw i never use setpoint or anything, it was just the mousepad, it's unskippable on puretrak talent, i'm thinking of buying some perfect glide feet too, or are the stock ones slicker ?

Oh and i don't want to get DA black edition, i want something smaller, 500hz out of the box ( doing the mouse4 thing ) huge super slick feet and dpi switch at the bottom are pretty good selling points, besides the zowie shops ships VERY fast with fedex, i just received the zowie g-tf pad that i ordered on friday :D

I don't think you would skip pixels. Use 800 if you're really afraid that it might happen (tracking at 800dpi is allright on the mx518, but 400 is still far better).
Also both my mx518 v1 and v2 were stable at 500hz (I actually use 250 now but 500 was fine for a few years).

Even if he states here "Overclocking the USB port had no effect on the maximum response rate" (http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=14) , from my experience, on a Razer Goliathus Control (both normal and fragged edition, both black), the mx518 achieves higher malfunction speeds when at the default 125 hz, rather than 500.
(please note I've always used 800 dpi)

Had no skipping problems whatsoever with a 6/11 windows, default yaw/pitch, 800 dpi, 125hz, 0.8 in-game sens = 65 cms/360, which is double the one you're using, but when i switched to 500 hz there was some skipping

If i were you I'd try restoring the original usbport.sys and do some tests on different pads
In case the problem persists it would be very strange, and it may be a sensor's maufactoring fault

So.. its better 125HZ @ 518 ? lol.

EC is very good IMO..
