Here is some behavior in the public #quakelive channel by whally days after a tournament where I was banned for "cheating" despite me sending my demos to him to analyze. Yes I was using a new alias at this time. No, there was nothing in the rules against using an unfamiliar name.

Days later cl0ck asked whally for me to be unbanned because he wanted me to enter a 2v2 tourney that needed more players (I never asked cl0ck to do this, despite whally's accusations) Whally unbanned me and said not to "start any more shit" even though I had never started shit in the first place. I had indeed mentioned before that he acted dumb for the way he conducted himself accusing me cheating when I was obviously not. I was on the defensive dealing with a league admin on a power trip who must have had some kind of past beef with me. I was just responding to defend myself. Before I was unbanned the guy consistently talked shit to me on irc randomly in public channels thus provoking me to troll him in pms. In most of these incidents I was drunk. At least I didn't go around in public badmouthing the guy. I was unbanned though so whatever.

At this time I knew the guy had his crosshairs on me so I was going to refrain talking shit to anyone, aliasing, or doing anything that could piss the guy off during his tourneys etc. I knew he was pissed because he had embarrassed himself in that one tourney by dqing me when he thought I was a hacker. He wanted revenge and I could feel it. Anyway last week I played in a duel tournament and my friend carnage asked me to do a bo3 with him instead of playing a bo1 for the fun of it... he is terribly inactive and I had not played him in ages so I did not see the harm in having some fun considering the tournament was a just for fun, 16 man tournament with no money or ANYTHING on the line. After I play him one game whally declares carnage the winner and when carnage took my side on the issue whally still talked smack and when I defended myself he accused me of "starting shit" and banned me from his league permanently. I am not expecting to be unbanned and at this point I am not even sure I would participate even if I weren't banned. I just want to let any potential sponsors or random players considering playing in this guy's league to know how he acts. I would suggest to steer clear and just support every other better league/tournament that come to this game.

I'm going to let this post sit here. No need for you to keep re-posting it and me deleting it. People can think whatever they want. If you have a vendetta against me for banning you, so be it. But here are the reasons why you were banned:

-banned for aliasing even though there was no formal rules, because apparently if it's not written, it's not a rule and you're not smart enough to figure that out.

-banned for causing trouble every other tournament for the past 5 months.
-banned for lying.
-banned for publicly telling everyone in the tournament, including admins, to "suck my dick" after breaking $600 worth of your own computer equipment.
-banned for telling me that you would inform other players not to participate in any AG events due to your own incompetence.

You take out your portion of that conversation and deliberately play victim. I really don't care. You're no one to me.

The reason I'm not like other admins is because I don't cater to whiners or emotional blockheads. Yes, you're a good player. No one is denying that. But you are not essential to a league. You are not essential to a team. Others might think so, but I don't. I'm not going to roll over for you.

This is pretty sad. I've talked to walter on servers, and yes he's odd, can be annoying sometimes, self-medicates, etc. There IS a line though:

Look at the bigger picture for a second. You want a community to grow, but be realistic. Yes, you have a community of players with a past -- some were pro, some know organized clanplay, some have seen it all, some have never even been in a clan, etc.
You really do NEED as many players as possible, importantly ACTIVE players who understand high-level play.

Given this unique "play culture" why not consider admin duties from a managerial viewpoint. You are managing personality types toward the best outcomes for all. If the players ARE the QL community, then let them decide extreme measures. Has there been a consensus of players reporting Walter's behaviors as obstructive, meddlesome or otherwise detrimental to overall fun?

Plus, an admin should sound "distant" in tone, indifferent in attitude, never personal in expressing the decision-making. Most of the times you are simply a rudder attempting to make the gameflow and fun as smooth as possible. Any intervention and intrusion into the competitive process (whether posting/flaming/irc chatter) SHOULD BE AT AN EXTREME MINIMUM TO NONE AT ALL. Promote, then get out of the way of the players.

Just so we're crystal clear: you have no right whatsoever to delete posts because you consider them to be off topic. If that were the policy of this site then over its decade long span it would have like 5% of its current level of posts/content and about 1/100th of the readers.

I wasn't on a power-trip. I've been the director of one of the biggest gaming leagues in North America for almost a year, so I know how to handle power. I deleted his posts not because I didn't want people to see, but because it wasn't the appropriate topic to put them in. He should have made a separate topic, like his journal.
