G9X?

MX518? At 400dpi it's an amazing low sens mouse but if you have small hands I'm not sure you'd like it :x

Why is 400 DPI (low compared to more modern mice) a good choice for users with low sens?

In this specific case, it's just that the MX518 has better tracking and perfect control with 400dpi than with 800/1800(1600).

Dunno if 400dp is really better for low sens in general, ask injx about it :P

I would just assume a 400DPI mouse to skip at fast movements.

It's usually the other way around for multidpi sensors, better performance at a low dpi setting.

Exception here being the DA 3G which performed best at 1800 DPI, while the DA 3.5G performs - like nearly all mice - best at its lowest DPI (in this case 450 DPI).

iirc they fixed that with a firmware update ( and even the stock firmware had a malfunction speed higher than 2m/s )

518's strong point is being practically unskippable, it has some prediction which is a con for most people though i guess.

Not my quake sens :D, although i'm probably around 50-60cm/360 right now. Just that it still didn't skip, ever; which is why it was always pretty highly regarded in that matter.

It was actually the non-skipping I thought as unreal. Not the ridiculous low sens :D

I think that mousescore test thing that was done here a few years back stopped trying to skip it somewhere around 4m/s as far as I can remember.

It were the original laser mice with all their fancy high dpi stuff that pretty much brought all the skipping.

Well the ms 3.0 was never "solid" if you had lowish sens or very fast movements. It's very good until you start hitting negative accel speeds, then it can be "good" but it will have problems (you can get used to neg accel just like regular accel so it's usable but it's not "perfect control")

With my 3.0 I never really experienced anything other than the negative accel, which could be rather severe though when going for big flicks or turnarounds.

When I got a g5 I was staring straight up or down within minutes though.The fact was that it and other early laser mice were a pretty big step backwards which was my point I guess. Meanwhile the mx518/500/300(latter two with 500hz) and ms 1.1/3.0/wmo etc were all pretty solid mice that fit different categories, the mx ones filling the "won't ever skip or not perform like it's supposed to" part.

Some of the newer stuff seems to be the best yet if you can get something with no jitters/random accel/prediction. It all feels like a bit of a gamble at the moment. I'm quite happy with my g9x, it has a weird shape but i'm used to it now and it's pretty small which is a plus for me.

I'm looking for a mouse that would fill all my needs as a low sens player. So far I've tried :

Abyssus/Salmosa: they both skip.
WMO: overall shit feeling with it, shit wheel, shit cord.
Kinzu: insane pos accel, meh.
EC2: doesn't skip no matter what but the shape feels somewhat awkward and you can clearly feel the prediction.

I actually looked at the g9x but the shape and the price kind of pushed me away from it, is it the only mouse that would fit for you as a low sens player or did you find any other alternative to this one?

I'm guessing the g9x doesn't skip at all if you are using it with this very low sens when doing fast movements.

Another question: what mousepad do you use with it ?

The g9x doesn't skip but the grips make the mouse feel unreliable, as they move a little. When stopping then restarting, it feels like you're first moving the grip on the first mm and then the mouse starts to follow.
Without grips the mouse is really to small. (unless you're a midget)
If you're interested in the g9x shape, the CM Storm Spawn is almost the same. I believe it wouldn't skip at high speeds, but the sensor feels weird (a bit of jitter, a bit of i don't know what)

What do you mean it kind of has a delay before it actually starts to track because of the grip ? It doesn't make much sense to me. I'm not getting what you are trying to say.

De toute façon ce genre de technologie est pour moi une vraie merde, je trouve la forme trop grosse et gênante avec l'un des 2 grips et si j'envisage d'utiliser cette souris ça serait sans aucun grip.

J'suis un peu perplexe sur la viabilité du capteur vu que c'est un laser en fait et j'imagine que ça dépend beaucoup de la surface sur lequel on l'utilise. Si à la moindre poussière la souris décroche, ça me gonflerait, surtout vu le prix de la souris.

Ils se fixent correctement et tiennent, mais c'est obligé qu'il y ait un peu de jeu entre les deux et je trouve ca super génant.
Sans les grips la souris est ridiculeusement petite, c'est injouable. Pareil sans grip pas d'accès aux boutons latéraux. Sinon le capteur s'en sort très bien, jamais eu de problèmes de poussière ou quoi que ce soit.

Bah reste sur ton EC2, la prediction c'est pas bien grave (ca aide même quand il faut tracker horizontalement :)). Sinon y'a la Coolermaster Storm Spawn qui a une forme correcte même si bizarre et pas de prediction, mais perso je trouve le capteur bizarre, une sensation comme quoi t'as pas un tracking naturel comme tu peux le ressentir sur la wmo ou la DA (ou même les mx malgré la prédiction). A priori elle décroche pas. (J'ai pas test en conditions extremes, et elle est rangée là donc j'ai la flemme :/)

Je joue pas avec l'EC2, ça fait bien longtemps que je l'ai unplug parce que la forme est bizzare, je n'arrive pas à être à l'aise dessus, peut-être parce que c'est une souris pour droitier et que j'ai toujours joué avec des souris ambidextres.
Je joue avec la salmosa actuellement, même si elle décroche.

La CM spawn ne m'intéresse pas, la forme n'est pas pour moi. Il me faut une souris simpliste sans les formes fantaisistes qu'ils font avec les souris d'aujourd'hui type une salmosa/diamondback/abyssus et direct ça réduit énormément les possibilités.

J'ai envisagé la DA même si elle n'est pas ambidextre et qu'elle est plutôt grosse (j'imagine que je m'habituerais à la taille) et apparemment elle pourrait coller niveau capteur avec le dernier firmware.

C'est dommage que la kinzu n'ai pas un meilleur capteur, j'aime bien la forme mais l'accel positive qu'elle a est vraiment horrible.

Si je m'y connaissais un peu j'me serais démerdé pour foutre un autre capteur dans la kinzu mais bon ce n'est pas le cas. :<

Sinon essaye ebay, tu peux ptet trouver une krait ou une diamonback. En faisant attention au vendeur pour pas se retrouver avec une contrefacon.
Sinon j'ai trouvé la DA lourde, mal équilibrée, et chiante à prendre en main, donc jte conseille de l'essayer chez quelqu'un avant de l'acheter (ou de prévoir d'en faire une kinzuadder si elle te plait pas)

It's not the only mouse that'd do it for me. I've formerly used:

mx500 (500hz)
mx518
ie 3.0 (pretty noticable negative accel but it still kind of "worked")
deathadder (original one) felt a bit too big and heavy imo.
g5 (spent half my playtime looking straight up or down when the shti hit the fan)

All had pretty much working sensors aside from g5 (unusable for me) and ie 3.0, with a bit of negative accel but it was kind of predictable and still worked.

Anyways, I'm using the g9x with a qck+ and I don't remember any isntances of tracking errors even when doing fast flicks (which are pretty large with my sens).

I've heard of some mousepad problems and that it has some small amounts of random accel (never really noticed it myself but it's perhaps not the kind of accel you could really notice without some aid but might be adding some uncertainty into your aim).

The shape is pretty weird but I got used to it quick enough and it fits me rather well in a claw/fingertipish'ish grip.

I'm not really sure how well I can reccomend it as it apparently has some possible problems that I haven't experienced myself and I haven't really delved into them at all since it's just worked for me.

If you get a chance to try it out that might be a good idea although it's prehaps not the kind of mouse you can just try and know if it's good as the shape is pretty weird and takes some time getting used to, but you could at least see if the sensor and stuff works on your mousepad and such and if it has any jitters and whatnot all these new mice seem to have half the time apparently (again something I've not experienced)

Which pad did you use the salmosa on? The only pad I got the salmosa to skip was on an SS Qck pad, all other pads (like, 10) worked flawless, ie. it was unskippable.

yep it was on a QcK, I did order a puretrak talent to see if it actually changes on that matter.

zowie ec2, buttons and wheel are pretty good but they need a bit of breaking in, its feet cause no scraping at all and to top it off, IT'S F*CKING unskippable at 500hz 500/1000dpi, shape wise it has pretty similar dimensions to IO 1.1 so i think you'll love it

stay away from mx518, especially the ones with 1800dpi and huge feet and extra weigh are very shitty

Don't the zowie and MX518 share the same sensor?

Old MX518 was better but the new one works fine on some pads with custom feet added on top of the shitty ones.

Mx518 uses an Avago ADNS-3080 and 3080(E) (Revision)

EC1/2 use an Avago ADNS-3060.


They're essentially similar, but the 3060 is able to hold a higher perfect control rate, while the 3080 malfunctions at a much later speed.

The 3060 is a much cheaper sensor, but some brands just use a 3080 or custom made srom for more DPI flexibility.

At 400dpi the mx518 has perfect control up to 4m/s like the mx510 I think, can hardly imagine someone hitting that :O

I definitely wouldn't recommend a WMO / IMO for 65cm/360.
Seeing how I can hit the negative accel even on a 25/360 sens, you might even manage to make it skip.

i use imo 1.1a with 55cm/360 with SS QcK, when i do all the mousepad from left to right realy slowly i do about 280°, but if i do it very fast i do 180 max, this is accel negative accel, but it should better be called deceleration or smthg other. the phenomen on a graph is shown by a linear limitation of the sensor to calculate anything higher in terms of speed.

STMicroelectronics OS MLT 04 sensor is real crap for low sensitivity users (i'd say it's a crap. period).

Don't forget to use a raw input hack and sens 1 with modified yaw/pitch to get that züber 55cm/360 accuracy of yours pushed to the limit !!1!1!

after playing various games for 4 years now all of which i never had a mouse with prediction i think its safe to say i would notice it and it would be preferable that my next mouse is prediction free also (i have an old mx518 and it just does not feel right)

There are far more important things than prediction, really. Comfort, pos/neg accel, skipping, jitter, mouse rate etc will make much more of a difference than prediction.

I agree on all counts except prediction vs. polling rate. I just switched from using a Salmosa and an MX518 back to a WMO and I have to say that the prediction has snubbed me more than 125hz has.

If I had to rank all of those attributes by priority, it would go like this: comfort, skipping, jitter, pos/neg accel, prediction, and least of my worries mouse rate.

Maybe I don't have sufficient experience with mice that don't have prediction then.
Between my IMO 1.1 and MX518 at 400dpi (both at the same hertz) I didn't find the difference to be monstruous (but it was there nonetheless). Didn't take me long to get used to it, and then my aim was the same with both mice, despite the fact that I hit the neg accel on the IMO every now and then.

Truth is, when playing around with the hz it was kinda the same for me, I felt the difference but could adapt quickly enough and if I had to play at 125hz I wouldn't mind at all.

So you're probably right actually, but since tweaking the mouserate doesn't involve sacrificing anything else (appart from CPU cycles if you go too high) it's worth doing it IMO.

There are a couple factors that make aiming for me different on the WMO from the MX518 and Salmosa. With the MX518 and Salmosa the shapes are such that you can only really hold them 1 or 2 particular ways. With the WMO I can hold the mouse how it's most comfortable and optimally for me, which involves my thumb being higher up on the mouse. The best place for my thumb to rest on the MX518 is right where the ridge for the thumb groove and the thumb buttons meet. On the Salmosa, it's practically on the button itself since the buttons overhang on the shell where most people do grip it. Both places just simply don't work well for me.

If I had to compare my grip to anyone else I would say take a look at how Cooller grips the WMO. I grip it similar to him only more relaxed, but our thumbs and ring and pinky fingers are in the same spots. That has actually been the biggest factor in my ability to aim. Since going back to the WMO I've felt 10x more comfortable with my grip and therefore I'm 10x more confident with my overall aim.

The prediction really is noticable, but I guess I can't really gauge it very well until I get a similar shape that has more prediction than the WMO. And yes, I definitely prefer 500hz over 125hz, but it's not a deal breaker at all. I don't think I ever move any mouse faster than 1.3 m/s and I'm using 26cm/360.

Yeah the shape is the biggest factor. Never found a decent way of holding my IMO 1.1 so I went back to my MX518 and a palm grip.

Funny enough one of the mice I really found comfortable was the tiny Roccat Pyra, using a claw grip it felt really good. But the sensor had issues and it couldn't run at anything other than 1000hz so I gave up. It had no prediction and very responsive buttons so I was really sad about it.

Yes because how I prioritize what I prefer in a mouse is totally going to make your rail accuracy jump through the roof. I mean, that's how it works with what pros prefer in their equipment right? Also, 125hz isn't great, but it's also not that bad. I'm (as in me, myself, and I (just for reference, that doesn't mean you)) more consistent because of the shape and how I hold the WMO over the other two mice that I had been using previously just recently. Would my accuracy and consistency go up if I bumped my WMO to 500hz? Maybe. Is it going to be significant? Doubtful. You can't overclock your mouse and instantly gain significantly better aim.

You should use 500hz. It does make a significant difference.

I know it does. I used 500hz when I was using my Salmosa and when I was using my G3 for over a year and a half. It makes a significant difference in SMOOTHNESS though, not in my accuracy.

I'd say smoothness translates into better tracking.

Actually, plenty of optical sensors designed in the early 2000's featured heavy or noticable prediction. The Microsoft mice with the STMelectionics OS MLT04 (1.1, 3.0, WMO, blue etc...) were technically the only mice that forced the least amounts, but if you want to get technical, your 3.0 still has a form of prediction even if the correction isn't as bad as a current generation Avago 3060/3080. :P

Here's a first generation WMO, but I'm sure none of you would want to use this version due to the early generation Agilent/Avago sensor which if I'm correct will produce noticeable amounts of prediction. I'm only assuming this since Agilent/Avago never really created a prediction-less sensor until they collaborated with Razer to develop the ADNS-3668(firmware flash)/3888 which was ironically based off of the ADNS-2020.

the normal diamondback (be it chameleon/plasma) is great as well

razer abyssus is a good alternative to the salmosa if you are lucky enough to get a working one
also, logitech g1 is very similar to the mx300 in terms of performance iirc

Sensor of old diamondback is not as good, I aimed at mouse suitable for 60 cm/360, that's why g1 is not perfect either, but still a good choice if you like that shape.

I play with mx300 atm, it's a great mouse especially for low sense gaming, but 390 dpi is annoying for desktop -_-

With a certain setup, or generally? Do you have a sorce for that I could read? It's weird because I had the db 3g for a week and didn't notice a flaw. Maybe my sens was not low enough.

Just my personal experience, as well as that of some of my friends. Even had problems playing without a particularly low sensitivity ~45cm/360.

ok so i ended up buying mx518 (new 1800 dpi edition)

it feels nice and i like it. i've oc'd it to 500hz. i have a few questions though.

1. what are the dpi steps with no software installed? is it 400/800/1800 or 450/900/1800?

2. should i install setpoint? currently i have installed nothing at all for this mouse after plugging it in.

prediction is very noticeable in paint but to be fair i haven't really noticed it in-game despite always b4 using mouses with no prediction. theoretically it could sometimes even be useful for example in situations where u have to chase a small object with ur mouse that is moving horizontally or vertically across your screen.

I have my ec1 at 1k and it seems stable enough. If your 500hz polling rate is unstable my guess is your motherboard is to blame (p55?) not the mouse. Cant remember what colour 500hz is so.

dont think it has anything to do with motherboard my Da has 499hz all the time while mx518 had it all the way from 300 to 550. So if you would be kind to test how is ec1 performing on 500hz i'd be grateful!

what reason do you have to ask? Did the mx518 perform bad at 500 hz? Because I have one too and despite a little fluctuation it works flawless, which leads me to believe a "stable" 500 hz is not needed at all.

i got both 1800 da and new mx518. Mx feels HORRIBLE compared to da, cant explain why exactly it just feels like sometimes mouse reacted faster sometimes slower. I am pretty sure that if i use it for some time i'd get used to it but i cba to use inferior mouse.

The EC mice don't officially support 500hz. They come with 1000hz. Howevery, you can hold down MOUSE4 or 5 while plugging in and the EC will run @ 500hz. It's kinda a hidden 500hz mode. I don't know if it's stable and I don't know if it will be saved after you reboot your system.

The EC2/EC1 500hz trick is remembered when turning your machine off... If you unplug the mouse and plug it back in without holding the one side button, it will revert back to 1000hz.

This has led me to assume that power must be active for the USB ports even when the machine is off. However that is not based upon any test, just conjecture based upon incomplete testing. I have turned the machine off overnight and turned it on in the morning and tested the hz of the mouse and it is still 500.

Since I have a UPS I have not had a power hit that proves this untested theory though.

It was the same with the old DA 3G. PC off and mouse plugged in would keep the lights off (as i set them to be in the driver). Now cutting the power (by unplugging the PC for example) would make them reset at the next boot. So i guess there's still a small power going through even when the pc's off.

Having spent way too much money on mice, there are a few things I have learned.

1. opticals generally "seem" smoother than lasers
2. the shape is the most important aspect. proper placement of buttons for you hand/style. being comfortable for long usage.
3. the orientation of how you hold it vs. where top dead center is. some mice track in a straight line left/right, others seem to arc left/right. how you hold it naturally and where it thinks top dead center should be effect how it feels to you.
4. polling rate and sensitivities and resolutions go "hand in hand". To say that one polling rate is universally the best is only an opinion. the truth is that if you take the time to try all 3 variables together (polling rate, sensitivty and screen resolution), you can often find a distinct difference in the "feel' at different settings.

In the end, much of it is personal preference. I say, find one that you feel comfortable with, then find mice that are similar in shape, then try to test friends mice out to see what you like.

I like the g9x quite a bit, but it is pretty small. It is good for a couple hours use, then for me, is bothersome. I use the mx518 mostly, because of all the mice I have used, it is both the most comfortable and the smoothest feeling. I use the zowie ec1 a bit, and while it tracks nicely and seems well built, its top dead center is a little off for how I hold it. My favorite would be the original sidewinder from a few years back. For my hand, it was the perfect size/shape, and the buttons were my favorite. However, it tracks really bad compared to many others, and its feet glide like sand on glass. Pity that.

Seems like a lot of people here have been down the same road I have, trying to find that perfect fit that also offers the best performance. Since I started using moudrv driver, I have noticed an improvement across all games. I am not a l33t gamer by any means, but I like to be competitive if I can, and IMHO the mouse is the one thing that can make the difference (short of a machine that can't play the games properly ;) )

I bought 2 broken mice, it cost me as much as brand new kinzu mouse and slodering iron something about 6$ @_@

I tried and to sum it up, the LOD is shit, the cord is shit, the control is shit, the mouse is too big and the mousewheel is shit. I can't understand how there is so many people using this mouse, it has so many flaws it's a big pile of shit to me.

Lod is good ( dunno wtf pad you're playing on ), control is excellent ( unless you mean the shape itself ), the cord I can't understand why people complain ( I mean, it never bothered me ingame, if it does get some duct tape or something ), too big is possible if you're 8yo and you can use a script to get rid of the mousewheel going nuts.

I'm not even using one anymore, switched to a 3.0 cause I found the wmo too small despite having lady hands basically.

I'm playing on a QcK heavy and it had a very high LoD on it, something that is a pain in the ass as a low sens player when it keeps tracking eventhough you already lifted your mouse 2cm away from the pad. It just becomes an unusable mouse if you can't just lift your mouse and replace it without the tracking. It's probably surface dependant I guess.

The heavy big cord might not be a big deal when you are used to it, still having such a big shit is one of the many flaws the mouse has.

It's too big for me because basically I've always played with fairly small mice, I used a diamondback for probably 5/6 years and switched to abyssus and then salmosa coz my db's buttons weren't working properly anymore.

For the mousewheel, it's too sensitive. I'm zooming with mouse3 and have PG and SG bound on mwheelup and down. I don't want to switch to PG or SG when I'm trying to land a long range rail. I won't change my binds I'm using for a decade to suit a mouse I consider overall shitty.

Plus seriously, you can really feel the difference between a DB and a wmo, the DB feels so much more precise and smooth.

Have you tried another wmo? My wmo/3.0 actually have the lowest lod I've ever had on my qck+ ( 1800 dpi da was horrendous even with the latest firmware )
I can't even fit 2cds under my wmo and 3.0 before it stops tracking.

As for the mwheel problem all you'd need is a little script that requests 2-3 scrolls before switching weapons, so you wouldn't switch randomly.

No I haven't tried another wmo, it was a wmo I borrowed from linkin before I actually buy one and there were just too many things that were bothering with that mouse so I gave up the idea of getting one.

That's really weird, having been his usual mouse for years he would have noticed if the sensor was fucked.
Are you by any chance using an old qck heavy ( old ss logo ) ? I know they tend to behave differently but I don't think there would be such a significant difference.

DB 1800 was a awesome mouse. The only problem was the fucking cable which broke after a year :/.

tbh, it has the best cable ever - just be easy on it.

A mate of mine had the same problems with 3!! db and all had a cable break. My brother's one is still working though weird :x

I went from 518 to DA to now using a microsoft sidewinder 8.

The tracking is pretty damn good, I can't get it to skip or see any neg accel, and I use a 35 cm/ 360. It also tracks better on more surfaces than my DA does. It's wireless but the latency is pretty good, better than an IE 3.0 and most wired mice (there's some japanese study showing latency of all major mice). You can also used it wired but I'm pretty sure it still sends data wirelessly.

It's more confortable than the DA and I like the sidebutton placement more as well. All the previous sidewinders are crap for highspeed tracking so don't bother with them, I had tried a sidewinder 5 I think but it skipped.
