well those two certainly stick out a bit but i guess there is still no way past cs and warcraft 3 has great appeal to the chinese...
my point is that marketing is a lot more important than competition, not that they will turn away from every title with e-sport potential
Not going to say that marketing is not a huge part of WCG, but QL's scope is just too small for a tournament like this. It wouldn't be possible in most countries because of the lack of LAN servers and even if id provided LAN servers, it would be pointless because players in those countries can't play the game regularly any way.
Might as well put Farmville and Angry Birds on that list as well, those have about the same competitive potential as WoW, and easily comparable player bases.
Yeah, because WoW doesn't have a competitive mode played by millions of people... Hate all you want, I hate WoW BGs too, but it's a competitive game and it's super popular, more than enough reasons to include it in WCG.
It's marginally random at this point. The issue isn't really dice rolls, but general class balance. The big issue is that band-aid fixes are applied on top of band-aid fixes, and they can never take off just one layer. This results in a constant circle of random FOTM classes.
In order to be balanced for competitive play, it need to be balanced in a 1v1 scenario across the board. Since Blizzard also feels that the game should work equally for both PVP and PVE (rather than having different mechanics/values for each), the game can never be properly fixed.
WoW isn't competitive. WoW is for children and somewhere in the world a child is having their fourth birthday. Guess what their present is? Popular indeed.
It's not without QL yet... You don't know. They haven't announced the full titles.
Did make me laugh how they put CS1.6 (okay good) but 2 counterstrike clone games in there. Don't really see the point. Okay, some of them are popular in Asia and they're probably going to host in Korea... but really? TWO clones?
Also made me laugh how they haven't included BW yet but WC3 has been confirmed.
It's not like any of us really expected QL to be in the list of games at WCG. That event went down the drain some 7-8 years ago if I remember correctly.
mb thats not new, but on his formspringme acc, cooller said that there is rumors, that this is the last year for qlive, there will be no eswc qlive, esl etc
I won't be really surprised when ESL gonna drop QL for next season tbh. Quake live won't be alive much longer in terms of serious tournaments. I hope I'm wrong though :)
This game is just too elite, thus it has pretty small community = low numbers. Fucking shame.
- StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
- Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
- World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
- Counter-Strike 1.6
- League of Legends
- FIFA 11
- Tekken 6
- Crossfire
- Special Force

I dont get it, is it ID who has little to no interest and money in ql or WCG who couldnt care less because no one really plays ql in asia ?
Maybe they saw the SC2 final and thought, "wtf is going on?"
Maybe they saw the 1.6 final and thought, "wow this is boring"
Maybe they saw the LoL final and thought, "lol"
More likely they just didn't bother because the Quake community is so minuscule. How many of you guys actually bought anything out of those interactive adverts? :P
WCG went from the esports olympics to a "how to sell the newest, useless junk to the masses of kids" marketing event, like 6 years ago. i dont get it what ppl really expected about quake? all it can sell is a pentium 3 computer and the MS WMO 1.1
We've been working with WCG for quite a while now making our case. WCG is holding an internal meeting on Monday to determine how QL could be worked into the 2011 seasons. I'm sure there will be some discussion required following their meeting, but I'll let you all know how things go.
Excitement can be good, but what would be great is if the QL community would continue to show their support for QL and desire by letting WCG know that they would like to see QUAKE LIVE in the WCG 2011 season:
I agree with spartaz0rd you should really draw more attention. I posted a QL comment on that wcg fb page, but it's so far just me and one guy from March 16th. I'm not saying we should spam up the page, but we could be a bit louder than that I think. Make an announcement and post those same links.
edit: then some admin here can major it. If the community can't be here to help sustain itself by showing interest in official tournaments then just wtf are we even here for?
