A very good assortment of frags – no fluff, just the goods – with solid editing. The visual look, with its contrasts from hell, is one of the worst I've seen in a long time – possibly ever. The music was incongruous: a random song from my iPod would probably have felt more appropriate. Overall a subpar video I don't want to watch again.

I had to mute it and put my own music on like others which is fairly bad considering usually people will bitch about music being a bit naff but watch it anyway.

Bit too dark, bad choice of music and it featured many frags from the Fnatic video, which beats it in every category. Could have been much better, since the editing is decent. Also Vo0 is not US, he's Dutch.

Enjoyed it, but the music reminded me of american hick outback with his bango and tumbleweed

I couldn't stand the music only because it was hard to figure out if frags were synced to them most of the time.
I'm the last guy to complain about music if the syncing is done right no matter whether I like the songs or not.
Other than that even the darkness doesn't bother me and the quality of frags and transitions is good but the music just didn't do it for me at all. 4/10

First of all, thanks to xou and apologies for the failed first message, I didn't know about movie posts.

Most of you complain about music and it saddens me to understand that the quake community isn't as prone to listen to new sounds as others are. I have released countless DoD (my first game and most of my vids) and CS movies with even "weirder" music, and while people might have noted that the music wasn't their taste, they never stated that it "ruined the movie" or "made it total crap".

I knew while making the movie that some would dislike it because of it, but I could never foresee such a shitstorm, honestly. Fang Island are a good band, that has had a lot of positive reviews from well respected zines and critics :

As they put it, their music is supposed to sound like "everyone high fiving everyone". I guess I didn't get as many high fives as I hoped but that's no biggie. I believe that those who did enjoy the movie really loved it because of the music, or I hope so. As for me, I believe that music is mostly bland/stale/boring nowadays on the quake movie scene, and it makes for very unoriginal productions. At least this one will, I hope, be remembered by some. For the others that feel terribad about the music, I came up with this trick (inb4 thats better than the original) :

1. Play movie, mute sound : Movie
2. Play second link : New background!


Some nicer gents have kindly pointed out some missing sync. Now, I won't point out every time there is synchronisation, but i put some good effort intro trying to. The sync might not be obvious, as in not on rail shots or air rockets, but mostly on transitions, avek's T7 plasma etc... The focus was more on flow than frag sync I'll give you that.

One last thing, sorry for it being maybe too dark. I guess the gamma settings on my computer tricked me into not seeing the problem, and if it shows then I apologise. I still don't see it though, I guess it's just personal preference.

So to sum up, I'm glad some people got to enjoy the movie for what it is, and I'm really sad about the others. I'll be sure to continue using the music I like cause otherwise, what's the point in moviemaking? I think of moviemaking as a form of art (not that I call myself an artist) and should reflect something about the moviemaker, at least that was the case in early 2000s when I started getting interested in it, and my models/heroes were the kind to use wtf music, and still that made for movies that were hated by 80% of people, but cherished by the rest.

You should sync both transitions and frags. Had to watch again after reading your comment to notice the transitions synced to music. The lack of synced frags made the movie look like a bunch of frags simply put together (just at first glance, but that's enough to make most of viewers stop watching)

I didn't like the music in general, I just think it doesn't think it fits QL and the flow of the game very well. That is all. But that's just a matter of taste.

Some of you really need's to watch VirtuositY or annihilation before choosing the music. I mean, c'mon thats not quake style at all (if it's good for any other game movie tho, witch I doubt).

You know, that's actually a really good idea! Let's use the same genre for each and every frag movie out there.

There is no definition of what music fits best to quake, each frag movie should have a purpose/soul and each has it's own pace and requires own music, be it some meditive Enya tracks, electro garbage, redundant UH YEAH hip-hop sounds or instrumental crap.

Bottom line, stop using linkin park and celldweller, there's tons of quality music out there, waiting to be used for an awesome frag movie, fang island was a nice call imo.

We all now know what kind of music you listen, and that's disturbing. Oh, and as hell5spawn said, sync isn't good enough.
