i cant confirm i have same issue. if i move mouse fast mouserate checker show exact same refresh values as i set them in drivers. if i move mouse slowly however, for only few pixels left or right, i get low refresh readings. which i believe is normal.

I've an 1.1 with 500hz and i get values from 450 to 550 and i've some values wich goes to 1700 aswell. i dont know if its bug or not, but i think that affects in-game.

Some of my friends updated their pc to x58 chipset with I7 and they cant seems to get Xp working good.
Prob X58 doesn't support Xp. I was also updating my pc this christmas with I7 but I am waiting for sandybridge to release in Jan. If its too expensive I buy bulldozer. :D

I experience a similar problem when i set my abyssus to 1000hz in XP, my motherboard tho is much older ( dfi 975x/g infinity )

It happens only when i use a usb hub tho and only in XP, mice that are are connected to other usb ports have no problems with polling rate at all :s

those h55 chipset motherboards also have the same issue.

Anyway, the P67 chipset has the exact same problem; unstable polling rates in Windows XP. DI_Mouse_Timer.zip (Dx_mouse_poll.exe) shows the polling rate as being erratic between 470-510 hz, which are probably the correct readings, but mouserate, MarkC's mouse recorder and "Dx_mouse_timer_dialog.exe" seem to get really mixed up by the readings, and show rates going from 300hz to 3500hz. Those readings seem to be impossible. What's very interesting is, if you set the CPU affinity to 1 core, the readings stabilize, but show up as half the hertz or something.

Tried every USB port (USB2 and USB3) with no change.

It's perfect in windows 7, though.

Anyone manage to find a solution?

When I upgraded my PC to i5 and H55 chipset a month ago, I had the same issue. It's weird, the average rate is still roughly correct, but it swings wildly.

Well, i've P5Q PRO TURBO and i've the same issue. I can notice a weird sens too playing other games, cs, etc.

From what i've read, asus chipsets are having this issues.

Maybe ill try to get an MSi..or im just wrong.

Just install Windows 7.
Its good its fast and most imp its compatible for latest hardware!
If you trying to use legacy OS in latest hardware no wonder you will have problem.

I prefer Windows XP by far, because I'm very well accustomed to it. Perhaps I'll switch to Windows 8 when it'll be released.. time will tell, currently I do not see a single benefit from an eventual switch to Windows 7, only issues with older software and getting accustomed to to the new (shitty) layout etc.

I did like windows xp (when Vista was about) but even with my old rig Q6600 it runs like snail.
As soon as I switched to Windows 7 it runs quiet fast, Games load faster, Boot time is faster etc.
Most older software does work in Windows 7 only few doesn't but for them I had duel boot. Now I don't even bother with them anymore. Its quicker and faster that's all matters to me :p

P.S BTW he upgraded to Windows 7 and his problem solved thats why this thread died. :P

No, your claims are a bunch of BS actually. WinXP and Win7 are pretty equal in terms of performance (speed), as most test results show. Some things are faster in WinXP, some are in Win7.

Joe Blow just compares his fresh Win7 install to his old WinXP install which has probably not been properly maintained for years and is bloated to all hell with random shit. A fresh install of XP will ran fast, too.

My OS is a modified version of Win XP SP3 with a lot of tweaks applied and is very well maintained. Also, I know pretty much how to do anything I want in XP. Windows 7 has a lot of BS like UAC (do I really need to run every app, after I figured it doesn't work without admin permissions, as admin - in Linux this does work good, but viruses can easily circumvent that in Windows) which only makes working with the computer more difficult thus I would disable it anyway and would need to spend time on learning how to. Also, there are other workarounds for everything. Other accel patches (of which I do not know if they really work, like they should) etc.

Even the control panel is totally rebuild lay-out wise, so I would have to relearn even that and with no real benefit in the end (that's actually the >least< problem of all)... In the end it would be a fatal time-waste with a lot of hours spent on configuring soft to my likings. I'm not a casual user..

I have one app that requires admin privs in Vista/7 (Quake 4 MP with 1.4.2 patch actually) and you don't even have to run it as an admin. Just edit the ACL list for the Program Files\Quake 4 directory to give yourself (Or the Users group) write access.

The point being, by limiting access to your home folder and just the binary folder it is secure and much better than giving an app admin rights to the whole system.

There are not major changes in control panel. You need to change layout to make it looks like Xp.
UAC can be disabled.
Not every application needs to run as Admin you might need to give user some admin rights. Prob some application compatibility too.
Tweaking will be easy if you figure out how to layout start menu as Xp. e.g. adding RUN to your start menu will help to solve lots of problems.

Just start using it you will get used to all settings easily. :D

I recently got a sandy bridge, with a h67 motherboard and it does the same thing for me. I'd go to win 7 but I don't like it. I've tried forever to fix the problem.

It appears though when I have the voice program "Mumble" running, it has a stable 500hrtz. As soon as I close it, it goes back to crazy hertz.

Anyone think of any reason why?

I have the same problem with usb polling rates.
I noticed that in xp, it can become steady while certain programs are active. For instance, the polling rate steadies while streaming a flash video or playing a song in winamp. So, I think this shows that a fix may at least be possible eventually.
For now... I guess I have to play long songs in loop with the sound muted while playing...

Bumping this since I'm probably going to upgrade pretty soon and the 67 motherboards look like the best bang for the buck atm.

I own a X58 motherboard and with Windows 7 only one of my usb-ports provide stable 1000hz (within 10hz). So make sure you try every port

I get stable 1000hz with my EC2 on my X58 mobo with Win7 installed. Switching USB ports does not change that...

Zowie has done great job at EC series got EC1 and stable 1000hz.
Windows xp here, before used mx510 and had problem with pretty much everything else except 250hz.

Actually the MX510 only goes up to 450 Hz. Just put it at 500 and it should be sticking perfectly at a solid 450. If not, something else is wrong.

but the mx510 is difference from the mx300/500.

For MX510 (500hz) mouserate.exe shows:

250hz
499hz

499hz
etc...
this is when moving fast and it gives average of 333hz something.

1khz its still same kind of weirdness and 250hz gives solid numbers that dont fluctuate much.

Same movement with EC1 at 1khz gives average of 999hz and fluctuation is way smoother, in windows xp 32-bit.

same thing with the mx310, if anyone is using that... 250/499hz.

Odd, back in the day my MX510 never went over 450 :| but it was stable.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I, believe it or not, found a way to STABILIZE the polling rate perfectly!

Just open any recording program-like Vent (Xfire works but you can't chat with people while you're doing this easily, as you have to have the mic actaully in test mode or activated), and set your recording device to an onboard or other sound device (such as an astro gaming mixamp).

When I set Vent up for my mixamp as the recording device, the polling rate is glass smooth and perfect, just like it is on my Pentium 4 or my old tossed QX9650 system. All ventrilo has to do is be open and set up to use the astro mixamp as the input device.

But when I change it to the X-Fi...polling rate becomes erratic again (the file dx_mouse_poll.exe correctly determines that the polling rate is jittering between 490 to 510, but mouserate.exe and dx_mouse_timer_dialog.exe get confused by the jittering and report from 25hz-3000hz, yet reporting the PEAK as 518hz.

Obviously this does not happen on windows 7.

I got suspicious and decided to look at DPC latency tester, and noticed that when i move the mouse, the latency jumps from 35 to about 350 as long as the mouse is moving. (Latency is 2 ms if dolby digital live is disabled, but still jumps up to 350).
With ventrilo running with mixamp as input device, latency is steady at 35.

So I need to ask:
IS EVERYONE GETTING UNSTABLE POLLING RATES ON X58/P55/P67/H67 BOARDS USING BOTH WINDOWS XP AND A CREATIVE LABS SOUND CARD?

Ah, I don't have a Creative soundcard so maybe I wouldn't have the issue.

Rising latency when you move the mouse is normal though, but 350 µs (not ms btw) is waaaaay too much. At 500hz (mx518) I get 2µs on idle and 15-20 maximum when moving the mouse (on a core 2 duo too so it should be lower on a quad theoretically)

And btw, have you checked the DPC latency on 7? with HPET ON/OFF too?

I'll come back and check this soon but I did some experimentation with checking the hz rate while installing drivers on a fresh install and found;

The problem only occurs AFTER i've installed my Nvidia graphics card drivers, before then all mouse hz issues are perfectly normal...

Perhaps the issue is concerning a driver compatability issue - Im attempting to locate the earliest drivers that support my card and install them to see if it has this issue.

Does anyone else have any insight?

You know, I heard something about nvidia drivers issue on these mobos too... Trying older drivers would be a good idea (not that new ones bring much if you don't have a fermi anyway)

I got this issue to on xp 32bits. With a G500 and a HD6950.
Set to 500hz, on mouse rate checker i get 1000hz average with 2D clock (250/150), and 1300hz on 3D clock (800/1250).
Also, when i'm moving an explorer window before desktop icon for exemple, i have a kind of lag or refreshing issue behind the window. I don't have it with a nvidia board or if i set my polling rate to 125hz.

Mouse rate checker behaves differently when unchecking "Show" case.

Yes. W7 has no problems at all. dpi latency shows at 35'ish with dolby digital live on, lower with it off. Polling rate fine.

Yeah I'll correct it:

Latency is 2 us if DDL is disabled, 35 us if DDL is enabled.
Move the mouse and it jumps to 350us, regardless. (this is on XP).

In windows 7, its a flat 35us, regardless of if I move the mouse or not (and the polling rate is smooth). Didn't bother disabling DDL but it would probably be a flat 2-3 us again.

Your problem is happening in windows 7, I presume?
Because I have all of those things disabled already and it happens in XP but NOT in W7.

Try disabling them all except hpet. HPET = High Precision Event Timer. Or disable it (on XP) and add /USEPMTIMER in the boot.ini.

Just bought me a new P67 gigabyte (B3 revision) mobo and a 2600K and on Windows 7 my polling rate is rock solid.

Though I've always disabled stuff like EIST and what else, since I plan on OC'ing.

All those power saving features have one nasty side effect, they degrade system responsiveness.

Yes I always found those features to be buggy and annoying. Your CPU might remain in low power mode when you launch a game, or randomly change state while playing etc.

Same with the GPU 2D/3D clocks too, they make alt-tabbing slow and annoying and sometimes the GPU will get stuck in 2D mode for no reason.

Some mouse cannot support high frequency and it seems nobody have some optical/laser captor drop, so i'm wondering what is the real hardware frequency from the mouse and why everything is fine before installing graphical driver.

That's really annoying problem, but I found the way to get stable mouse rate on WindowsXP with P55/X58. Just buy "PCI Controller Card" with USB 2.0 ports (5-15$)

Try other programs though, I had the same issue myself. I thought my WMO was broken until I tried another WMO and it was the same results. So I tried a different program to check it (dimr.exe) and it showed that it was fine.

I think it might be a bug with certain boards or chipsets, I don't know, but try other programs, your mouse and motherboard could be 100% fine.

Thanks, dimr gave me 520hz but i still have problem when i'm moving a window before another one or some many shortcut, there is some kind of lag, and i had a mouse lag too in game. Mouse lag like deco/reco.

I tryed lastest driver for my graphic card and intel chipset but the bug is still here.
I don't have any problem untill i put graphic driver.

So dimr should give the real mouse polling rate but mouseratechecker tell you if the bug is here or not.
