trying to find out how good a map is at separating the better team from the worse, it is probably best to look at the average score difference divided by the average score in order to get a normalized ranking
(instead of just the avg diff, cause a 5 frag difference at dm14 means much more then the same at high scoring map like dm20)
0.34 - Deep Inside
0.31 - Realm of Steel Rats
0.31 - Hidden Fortress
0.30 - Dreadful Place
0.24 - Grim Dungeons
0.21 - Intervention
0.20 - Purgatory
0.17 - Campgrounds
do you guys think this is a valid ranking?

separating the better team from the worse -> bigger difference -> smaller score

huh?
bigger relative difference -> bigger score

so if we get one map with 175 average (frags worth less) and 25 average diff. and a second map with 150 average (frags worth more) and 50 average diff. , the first one is better (7>3) ?

or do you mean difference divided by score

thats what i meant with relative score difference, its the average difference divided by the avg frags

avg score = 100 and avg diff = 20 -> 0.2
avg score = 200 and avg diff = 40 -> 0.2
avg score = 200 and avg diff = 20 -> 0.1

that would be interesting aswell but i dont have data for that
i could include how often a map was picked/played as 3rd but i felt that it wasnt worth the effort

thanks
i always like to play around with statistics, currently reorganizing the data so i can easier update it and make it easer to work with it (i.e. calculating standard deviation for the averages so its easier to judge how relable the results actually are)

so you're angry OTHERS play the map? fuck off man, there are several teams that like and use it as a homemap

because for whatever reason they think they have an advantage on it over others

dm6 was a homemap of many duelers , that doesnt make it a good map

usually homemaps are the ones teams feel most comfortable with. if you dont like a map then you're not totally comfortable on it, hence it wouldnt be your homemap. current rules dictate that you will never have to play a certain map if you dont want to, while teams that do want to play it might get a chance on it sometime.

because for whatever reason they think they have an advantage on it over others=because a team feels most comfortable on it over others

imo

but i can see your logic, i didn't think it through :) it would eventually be picked more times, since there are quite a few teams that feel its their homemap

dm20 suits teamplay well. It's fastpaced like aero, which is the best map evah, made for duel. A lots of frags doesn't mean less teamplay, remember good old dm7 days.

Dunno man, i loved dm7, but dm20 just feels like to much mindless cess and ffa, but i am sure there is room for teamplay and tactics..which because im a nooby are beyond me at the moment :)

Aren't you the oldschool r1ddler from OSP (may be even before) times? How dare you call yourself a nooby? ;D Imho dm20 has two (almost equally) prior rooms (MH/YA/LG room & RA/RG room), so teams have to call decisions about how many players they will put in each rooms, ofc. it depends on the opposing team's tactic (e.g.:useless to have 2 or 3 players against one, you also have to ask for support from the other room sometimes, and so on.) It makes the map very cessy, you can't really play dm20 by pre-planned tactics. dm20 is the map where you can cause most damage with a quadrun, so right team coordinating to quad was never this important (which also refers to teamplay). : ) In my view Purgatory is the FFA map, not Hidden fortress. Purga has 3 prior items in 3 different rooms, non of them (except RG may be) is really defendable, since they are in open areas. Powerups are also in huge areas, which isn't allow teams to set up early and defend or delay it. That map is FFA, based on individual skill/map knowledge imho. Well, it's not that bad to have a map like this in mappool, we still have osp5, osp6 and dm14, to support real teamplay. : ) Sry for my bad english, I'm a bit sleepy. Cheers!

hehe ye, i am r1ddler from the good ol osp days :D but feel like a noob when talking about tactics :)

the difficult part about holding RA/RG is that you can get easily pushed of by the LG stacker (who ever holds LG area) even more a single player can hold that lg room and since there are no spawns he has to move out and does a ton of dmg..thats why usually you see 8 guys running around the map making it look like ffa :P But i understand, you can still hold rail/ra room if you have enough rails and good positioning ...after the MG update its less cessy for sure
(it really is a map where on-the-fly tactics and teamwork is required, where all 4 drop together for an item, etc.)

I love purga :D yes the areas are open and its not easy to hold, but once you have a lock down on rail/rl (2 guys above RA) one in RA area and the other above MH,..its really difficulty for the other team to do anything (twhat makes the map interesting as well is the fact that the weak side has the stronger powerup and so many opt to leave primary and go for BS. purga is a mix of intervention/dm14 :P

to each their own i guess :)
