Well, gaming on the PC wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for him. He finally figured out that PC's couldn't side-scroll (at the time) and he made a solution to fix that. That it's self is a big thing. Imagine how many games we wouldn't have if it wasn't for that.
3D on PC probably wouldn't exist without side-scrolling.
I agree, but I still think someone would have come up with it eventually. Nevertheless Carmack is a real pioneer and we could have waited years for an innovation like that had he not experimented and found a solution early on. Anyway, Rage looks pretty awesome.
So true, I forgot about Doom 3. I sure hope they don't tie the FPS to the game speed and cap it really low again. I imagine they fixed that in Quake 4, correct me if I'm wrong someone because I barely played it though.
He made a few good engines (which he released as open source or something), and if he hadn't coded a certain bug you would not be here reading this line ; also his keynotes are interesting and he seems to be a nice guy.
Maybe I'm reading too much into his comments but since he didn't mention anything about quake except the comment about "quake in cars", but he mentions that he'd like to do a project on a small scale before turning into something big, it made me think of Quake Live. Perhaps they're using QL as a way to build the online features (stats tracking, community stuff, etc.) that they can have available for a Quake 5 on launch day.
its what 99% of vids are on youtube, if they dont have HD
if you goto youtube on your cellphone its the video size that will be shown because it can stream without buffering on 60kbs 3g connection
if you want a vid to too good after upload you have to upload a mpeg, the transcoder ffmpeg or whatever the name will destroy avi files, and the same on moddb
