Does Brink have to run through steam? If not, this doesn't show much. For instance, it says EVE has 659 players, but the average concurrent users in the game is more like 40k - obviously only reflecting the Steam userbase.

Well, it's also only peaking around 2k, and we don't know what the floor is - but 545 players is only around 30 full 16-man servers. For only being out 3 weeks, this is especially grim.

More a case of how many servers there actually are. When I load the server browser, there's a fair few 16 player servers full up but also a ton of passworded match servers etc

Steam stats are a bit meh.

CS1.6 has easily the most player-base but mainly because if all the non-steam clients (Asia etc) that aren't counted. Valve combined source and 1.6's numbers to make it look like source had more players ages ago but people laughed at it. They made it separate again but removed the non-steam clients effectively cutting a huge number from 1.6 (but funnily enough often still more then source's)

Team-Fortress 2 is easily one of the most popular PC games going these days but it's almost a 3rd of the peak of the next game (which I guess we can count as source *wink wink*)

Terraria is an awesome game but it surprises me it has the same amount of players as TF2...


If Brink was optimized it actually would have worked as a game I like to think. It needs a lot of tweaks and lots of competitive gameplay changes. As it is, with most people getting 40fps in fighting situations, it's no surprise the game is bombing fast. Until they fix that, it's going nowhere, which is kind of a shame, because for all it's flaws, it's actually quite fun.

I was thinking of giving this game a shot but they haven't fixed the major issues yet and with that many players... well I'll keep my money.

On a side note, cool to see that my beloved Mount & Blade has a reasonable amount of players (and it doesn't even need Steam) despite the new one (that I'm not too fond of) having been released a couple of weeks ago.

everyone on splashes forums are playing the ps3 version, the pc version has too many bugs and crashes and QOS service floods and kills your connection

windows 7 QOS default settings mess about with UDP ports and throtlle and spikes the connection

It was a lot of fun when I played it on my mates pc. Majority of the stock maps were quite good imho. Responsive weapons that reward good aim - headshots actually count.

Its a shame its died so quickly as it was a fun game imho.

right, the game is pretty funny, problem is it is way too slow, feels like playing cs with fancy weapons that don't do as much damage as they should :/

Rumor has it that the same guys who hacked sony multiple times just hacked brink/bethesda master servers. Your steam account/information could be released in the next few days, so I'd change your password if you own the game.

If they get into the QL network, you may even more to worry about.

If it's true they got hacked that's a shame. Dunno how they'll get passwords though. I never log in or out of Steam. It's just always on... Plus dunno how Brink would find that shit out


The thing with the game is, it genuinely seems like Splash are trying to make the game successful for competitive scene. The problem where they're failing is the fact you need a fucking supercomputer from NASA to run the thing stable 100fps.

The update they did recently added PC stuff like pings, server filters etc etc which basically means they at least give somewhat of a shit about the PC community to add this stuff in.

As for the game. I actually hope it succeeds. I have fun playing it (although to be fair, I rarely do nowadays). PCWs are fun and there's actually a fair degree of teamwork to play it. Gotta give a shout out to the QuakeLive TV guys. They're putting in a shit ton of effort experimenting and doing streams and with the 10 second spawn test thing they did the game was actually not too bad to spectator. Just needs fucking first person viewpoint (which apparently is coming)

You can see hardware companies loving Brink if it got successful competitively due to the fact you'd need all their high-end gear to fucking run the thing ¬_¬
