Looks decent. Logitech rarely put out dudds. Looks like they're covering all bases with this making an MX518 with a higher DPI for the tards that buy into that shit whilst keeping it balls simple.

i have my mx500 running at 1000hz, with the mousetest programs i've tried it seems pretty damn stabble to me...the same as 500

1000hz is only unstable on the wmo/3.0/1.1a through overclocking

Logitech's own specs say its 133gr with cable. The cable is 15g.

So the mouse still weighs 118gr.

That's about 40gr too much for my taste.

I doubt you could remove 40gr by drilling holes.
And if the sensor still has prediction (that cannot be disabled), then its all for nothing anyway (for me).

I don't see your issue with prediction

I had a DA 3g and messed with it alot using prediction and turning it off the difference when aiming is dismal it's just a bit nicer with the rail without it and a bit nicer with the lg and mg with it.

I used to play with 17 cm/360 and alot of accel it was like 0.7 in real accel

and then I switched to 10 cm/360 without accel and still had no issues

Not everyone only plays Quake.

If I only played Quake, I'd probably care less about prediction.

Moving (X/Y/Z axis) shock combos in UT are hampered quite a bit by prediction.
Once you play without prediction, you never want to go back.

Of course, not all mice that have prediction have equal amounts of it. And some people will value shape/comfort of their mouse over prediction.
Personally, there's no way I will go back to prediction - ever.

Also, you mention playing with acceleration. With acceleration, prediction will be felt even less. So no wonder you don't have issues with it.

I played UT99 quite a bit with an mx518 and I had no issues with shock combos infact they were easier with me , but I guess it has more to do with how I move the mouse and how I hold it .

And ofcourse all mice have different amounts of prediction.

I also said in my previous post the prediction can be helpful and can be annoying depending on what your doing and I used quake as an example because it's the main game played on this site.

a switch for changing hz either beneath the mouse (salmosa/abyssus) or a mechanism integrated in the scroll wheel (zowie ec1/ec2)
the avago adns-3090 optical sensor (just for the haters to be able to switch angle snapping on and off)
also, they should abandon that logitech logo in that circle, because it noticeably wears down with time causing the mouse to not look very nice within some years of usage
they could improve in terms of the scroll wheel
button travel is decent, but can be improved too

I can cope fine with the weight of the MX518, so if this will be a bit lighter, I think it could become my favorite mouse :)

You can switch the under part with one from an old MX, thus getting the small mousefeet.
Sensor position remains the same (and is pretty much perfect for me :))
I've never worn down the logi logo, must depend on sweat acidity or smth !

Mine's worn off too, and the rubber sides as well. And the wheel still works but the rubber is also worn off.

Well actually my old mx518 looks and feels crap now but, hey, the buttons and the sensor still work flawlessly at least.

just saying, look around the internet (ebay and the likes), most mx518's there have a worn out logo. the rubber sides are not the least worn out though.

I have sweaty hands, but I always try cleaning them before some gaming.

Oh and yeah, the sensor is in the perfect position like it is now, but I do have concerns about them doing some funky stuff to it like they did with the G500.

Does anyone else believe that the mice companies signed a contract to NOT release a small, lightweight mouse that tracks well because they know people would buy that shit in bulk of 100's and stop upgrading until they die, thus "killing" the mouse industry? How retarded do these guys have to be?

Hell, someone could take a WMO sensor, put it in an Abyssus/Kinzu shell and sell it for 75$ and I'm sure a lot of people would still buy it, I know I would. Of course the WMO sensor isn't perfect but it would be hundred of times better than a jittering Abyssus, a kinzu with accel and prediction, etc. Good god, this industry pisses me off.

Valor if you look for a palm grip mouse. 74gr without cable due to a very small PCB. Not proven yet ofc, but still. That's a good target hehe.

Wish they would have added onboard memory so one could set 900DPI or 1000DPI without having the drivers running. A wider scrollwheel would also have been nice. Might buy one though as it won't need software to overclock the USB port and the shape is quite good.

I'm tempted to get this mouse (now that the Valor turned out to be crap; at least for now).

But I'm sad to see Logitech still have not disabled Prediction.

I've played around with my old MX518 after having gotten used to the Spawn (which has no Prediction). And I totally feel the Prediction right away.
Very obvious when using LG in Quake or doing moving shock combos in UT.

I just don't think I can go back to a mouse that 'features' Prediction. :/

I quite liked the G500 when I tried it but it has wider buttons. I just can't find a store which has a try-out MX518 on their shelves.

Thinking about buying an MX518 before they sell out (seeing that the G400 is not a big improvement).

1000HZ is big improvement and it looks little smaller than Mx518 in the picture but they are identical.
I am not sure if software reduce lots of prediction but when I see that picture it looks low anyway.
Who like Mx518 will like G400 and logitech are pretty good in their mice.

Yes the 1000Hz is a nice touch (eventhough 500 would be better in my opinion) but does it worth the money? I mean you can easily change the Hz of your USB ports.
I used the almighty Deathadder 3G back in the day (pre prediction firmware updates) and it didn't bother me (but It's still beyond me why didn't Logitech put the adns3090 into the G400 to please everyone).

while the ands 3090 is supposedly awesome, it is reported for having a low perfect control by some (cm storm spawn) [unconfirmed!] and giving puretrak valor's users multiple issues (pos & neg accel..). how much of it is puretrak's fault (bad firmware, custom lens) is yet unclear, but seeing as the sensor works fine along the spawn, it's probably their fault.

-I use my mx518 with 3 fingers on top, my palm never touches the mouse, so i hold it with my fingers only. It's really comfortable for me, very good shape, perfect grip.
- The new mx518 (and this also) doesn't have the MX feets anymore, and the new big feets are really shit. (I had to get off the bottom of my broken mx518 and apply it to my new one, it was that bad for me)
- Prediction really sucks imo, it's not something you can't live with, but I just can't get used to it, even after this many years.
- You may lift it 2-3mm, not more
- Goliathus felt shit for me with my mx518, but pads are really about personal preference, so ......

It's 1000hz, 800dpi default, works like a charme. Awesome mouse btw.

Some people just prefer 500hz, and/or think 1000hz is too much.

slightly related....for me mouserate.exe shows the mouse averaging 3000hz and it goes as high as 8000. wtf? no drivers just plugged in.

pfft, 1000hz was maybe to much for CPU's >5 years ago.

CPUs aren't the problem, motherboards can be.

And since any Quake can be played on PC older than 5 years it's good to have option to fall back on 500 Hz.

There are several games that do not react well to 1000hz, Q3 is one such game where you will occasionally get missed button presses or button releases.
