Was playing dm13 the other day and I respawned next to RA as my opponent was dropping down through the crack on the back side of RA platform. Clearly that wasn't the furthest spawn from my opponent. Similar situations have occurred on other maps as well...
The worst map for it so far has been t4. I watched a mate duel on it last night and following two kills in the central tower he saw his opponent spawn once near 5 bubbles and then again at rail. Needless to say he killed him nigh instantly both times.
*When a player is killed the camera moves behind the spawnpoint closest to death point.
* If the player press +jump camera is moved to next spawnpoint in a clockwise order.
*If the player press any other button player is immidately spawned.
Easy to implement and would greatly improve the game.
Oh and ID should monitor all spawns in all duels for a month and weed out spawning pairs that significantly deviates from 50-50 winnings on all maps. then repeat a couple of months.
I disagree with ppl saying new spawnsystem is shit...
While on t7 its simply broken, for unknown to me reasons, it works quite ok on other maps... Best example would be dm6, which after being played for such long time with old spawn system, became too predictable... with almost no chance to make a comeback if u didnt deal a lot of dmg every time before u died... Now its easier
And it works quite ok on ztn, dm13 and t4...
Would like to remind theres no perfect spawn system...
But I'm probably the only weirdo who doesn't really mind and actually likes qw spawns more than vq3/ql spawns anyway, cause at least the rapes are fast and clean until the algo decides to spawn you somewhere else, unlike ql which is spawn - run around for a few seconds - die to the other guy while you just grabbed a gun and a ya - repeat = waste 10 seconds * number of spawns.
right now with the serverside modifications mostly used it's random with a little algorithm that reduces the chances of spawning twice at the same place.
Random would be horrid in ql though, glhf being fragged, spawning next to the other guy twice and giving up 2 more frags for free. At least with the ( frustrating ) system used now you can do something unless the other guy is on the hunt.
the frustrating part is knowing that there's a good probability that you're gonna die 3 more times during the next minute from a guy rotating spawns. That's dead time. In qw it'll be 5 frags in 10 seconds but at least you're pretty much free then.
dm13 spawns are completely fucked since the update. t7 is weird now too. I've seen the initial spawn on t7 be lower rocket launcher and the YA right next to it like 15 or 16 times. its weird as fuck.
In t7 spawns a bit crazy in mega room.

What I would change? I would add faster respawn, not it's longer then in Q3, thats gives other players chance to FORCE SPAWN , he can run with low hp and take item or kill.
Do spawn for duel like 0.5s min and 6s max.
Seriously go play a few matches on dm13 and tell me the spawns are not broken. Earlier tonight I spawned twice in a row near plasma, while the other guy was piddlefarting around at the YA right next to it. You spawn literally within direct line-of-sight of the other player probably 20-30% of the time. And maybe its just me, but it feels like they're using some sort of really shitty random number generator in their algorithm - in my experience so far one retarded spawn is extremely likely to lead to one or two more. Like the way an unseeded random number generator in Java or C++ will often spit out the same number three or four times in a rown.
I'd be fine with the new spawn system exactly the way they described it - except it doesn't work the way they described it. It clearly has a problem. I'm all for the idea of Quake not being care bears, but spawning 3 and sometimes 4 times directly in front of your opponent is retarded. That rewards the lucky kill just as much as the good one.
For what its worth, I've only noticed it being particularly stupid on dm13. Ztn seems to be a little more forgiving than it was before. T4 is supposedly fucked, but I hate that map and almost never play it.
In ZTN some poor guy starts two times right behind me after the first frag. Two free frags for me just for having better armor/weapon-stack: that's not really "fair"…
