peeps get pixel rails without zoom?

I use 90 fov for rail and lg.

I'm a bit weird with regards to zoom. I have 55 fov for rail zoom, but whilst I am holding space (my zoom bind) AND I press (not hold) my rail bind again (e) I zoom in further to 35 fov. Releasing space/zoom bind of course zooms out to 90 fov (not 55). I have the same setup for lg except the zoom fov's are 70 and 55.

I use a +zoom config so when I zoom its behavior is the same as cg_zoomscaling 0 ofc. I can't stand zoomscaling 1, the only players I know of it who use it are simply used to it from osp and have just kept with it (cypher/stermy/cooller etc). Eugh, I hate it.

So yeah I zoom a lot :P Cat's setup is a bit odd in that he has two rail binds, each with a different zoomfov. One is normal (50 or 40 etc) and the other one is zoomfov 17 :S wtf....

My guess would be that not-zooming is the most uncommon of the two.

I use 100 fov and 60 fov for zoom. My zoom is the same key as my rail gun( MOUSE2 ).

So, right click switches to rail, and right click again zooms. I only use zoom for rail.

It's very natural and easy to play with.

Great! It was my dream to free up right mouse button for other stuff than zoom, but I couldn't before because I needed zoom and hadn't any other keys available, and I was cba to learn configs and stuff.

i use fov 110, no zoom.. i hit an average of 43% in CA sometimes i play instagib for fun and hit up to 60%

playing +zoomed here ( 95rail - 100lg - 105mg - 110rest ). zoom bind goes to 45 on the rail ( only for typical setup shots or shots on guys who are already waiting for me ) and 70 on the other weapons ( but except for really fucked up spam angles it's pretty much useless to me ).

I never zoom, zoom is for pussies :D

i zoom only for long distance lg fights, and some rails where i got small "window" like railing mh from ra @ ztn...


overall i dont change sens when zooming and for me its small difference... i play with 100 fov, and switching to 90

yeah, with 0 and 1 it should automatically be scaled.

I never used zoom because I couldn't find a useable bind. To be honest you don't really need it but it is just so much better in certain situations. Gl to teleexit on ztn, corridor to mh on t7, aerowalk etc. Your acc won't go 10% up over night but you can use better angles without even getting hit and some shots are just "safer" to hit with zoom.
I'm still getting used to it and I'm glad that I did.

I wasn't using zoom in VQ3. I started doing it after 1st dreamhack (so 1 year ago). Rail and LG gives extra % for sure, but need atleast ~3-4 months to get used to it full. I was using 10 years same bind configuration, for zoom I was need to change it. Bind space was +duck, now it's zoom, capslock was +zoom, now it's duck (so I don't use duck often now...).

i cant imagine jump binded to key other than space bar

mouse2. I would use mouse2 for zoom then if i was using space to jump.

pushing 2 buttons on mouse totally changes the pressure on it, and your grip, making it hard to aim [for me]...

currently i got zoom on ctrl and it works because i dont zoom much

i wonder how come so many players dont use space as jumpbutton... its so basic... once i played with jump at mouse2, but its impossible for me to move swift with it :X

I think it was the default bind in Q3 and loads of people got used to it.
I myself prefer space too because I started with games that had it bound there in the first place.

i actually broke to many (cheap) keyboards using space to jump so i switched, same binds as guard now :}

in my more than 10 years long adventure with PC i got only 2 keyboards... i split tea on first so had to change it :{D

Actually makes it kinda better for me.

Been trying out fov 70 zoom for LG and pressing both mouse buttons feels kinda decent. It's also a lot easier to hit higher accuracies. Gonna stick with it... Hey... If it works for Strenx...

edit: also, Toxjq moves with the mouse buttons so differing pressure etc can't be all bad :D

Well, I meant the zooming rather then pressing the buttons, but pressing both buttons down still feels pretty good regardless of whether Strenx does it or not.

As I said in the edit though. Toxjq uses mouse1 and 2 for movement, so differing pressure can't be all that bad for accuracies if you're used to it :]

some of ET oldskul players had fire binded to spacebar, to not give any pressure on mouse, for bettar aiming...

You use the two buttons on a mouse all of the time just using windows and navigating it!

i never used zoom prior to ql but it became obvious that the duelling "pros" do it all the time so i eventually binded +zoom to space.

i had a hard time getting used to zooming for rail and i still haven't figured the zoomshaft thing out. i plain suck when trying to use it :/

once you're used to it zoom makes a lot of shots much easier, overall i became more consistent (and boring...).

95 normal 55 zoom atm, i only zoom when i set up for a shot, like ra tele on ztn or mh tele on t7. if i'm moving left and right because the other guy can see me or some other reason i don't.
i used to have a higher fov and zoomfov and zoom with lg as well, but since i changed to these settings i don't.
also my aim sucks
/e: actually, i've realized i do zoom normal long-distance railshots sometimes. also i zoom quite often with mg (but not lg)

zoom use is situational. I won't zoom railing down onto RA on t7, but I will zoom while railing mid in CTF, rail onto tele exit on t7, from door onto quad on dm14, etc. I never use zoom for reaction/flickshots, only when I know the shot is coming and it is favourable to set it up properly.
