People put too much value into these tournaments. So IEM dropped QL? Who cares? So now rapha will make $2,000 less this year? There is such a strange system used in pro-gaming. An organization grabs up whatever games are popular and at least semi-professional. And yet... none of these games are popular. The Super Bowl alone nets over 100 million viewers. What about the World Cup? Kids start playing those games at 5 years old and play them until their bones fall off. We need to think bigger, not like a bunch of damned dogs, begging for every table-scrap.

We know what we need to do... we've known for years. Get more players. To do that, we need to make the game better for new players and introduce more players to the game. The video-game industry is one of the biggest and most profitable. It is wrong to assume pro-gaming cannot be as successful and large as normal gaming, a.k.a. sports. In fact, we should aim even higher than 'regular' sports. If there are enough 'nerds' to put so much into video-games, than there are enough nerds to put so much into pro-video-games.

Let LoL have their little short-term, shallow victory, while we resupply, regroup and come back with a full stack ready to slaughter.

Having spent some of last night in the QL irc, it seems like getting most things done isn't a matter of not knowing, but instead a matter of "permission" from the higher ups at id to dedicate the resources to the game.
