The hypothesis that the croshair shape and size can influence the accuracy has never been really proven. There have been theories about it, which could be just placebos.
The variety of cfg at pro level seem to suggest there is no influential impact, i.e. the little benefits crosshairs give are canceled out by other more relevant things.
AFAIK, the only valid point is that Crosshair shapes can be a good way to visualize the current weapon if drawgun is off.
This is as well in the range of speculation. I personally don't have an opinion regarding "getting distracted by flashing/poulsing crosshair". I think most of the pros I've seen play with fix crosshairs, especially for shaft, mg, pg.
Gameplay-wise, I would distinguish the single color vs the damage-based color. The first one just strengthen the hitbeep, and at least it is a spectator friendly feature.
Unless I missed the update, you cannot have damage-base hitbeep tone as in CPMA, right? If that is the case, then the damage-based coloring gives you the additional hint on the amount of damage you did, and this may be useful for spam rockets/nades that explode out of your sight.
I use this (crosshair flashing by damage, that is), and it isn't really distracting at all. Its incredibly useful for knowing when that no-look rocket just did a little splash or a direct hit. The higher/lower tones do the same thing, but with no frame of reference I always find myself wondering if that was a high tone or a low tone. Could just be a lack of experience on my part though.
I do wish more casters would use the damage-based crosshair flashing, because it's difficult to hear the hitbeeps sometimes with people talking over it and the gamesounds turned down low.
erh, depends, I don't even notice them ingame either ( and eachtime I read "cpma hitbeeps" I'm left to wonder if I've ever found the cvar to activate them in cpma or if they're default and I'm oblivious to them )
didn't notice them in cpm yesterday.
And I noticed you were using hitbeep 2 thanks to this thread, after using a tweaked version of your cfg for
months. I'm supposed to use 3.
maybe.
Noctis has a similar ( or maybe the other way around ? ) thing going on with his lg bind, realized it after maybe a month while I was spamming weaponbinds.
I like how we are discussing if crosshair color change is annoying when players like rapha and k1llsen play with the fucking demo recording message on!
I might try this later just for shits, but that dot is ridiculous. If you make it big, it blocks out whatever you're aiming at. If you make it small, the fucking thing gets lost in the screen.
All these settings mean absolute shit! Used to tweak the cfg to within an inch of it's life, nowadays I just use the menu apart from 1 or 2 console commands and play exactly the same.
I use a variety of crosshairs for different weapons, but use + for the hitscan guns.
Color wise, I never found white to work well, so instead use Magenta (when I've got Green enemies) or Green (when I've got Magenta enemies). I toggle enemy color between maps depending on what shows up best. On most, I prefer Magenta.
I've never liked multi-color simply because depending on if you're peaking high or low (e.g. on DM6 shooting from RL or towards RL) you'll see just the legs or just the torso. Guess I prefer consistency and a solid color.
