I am considering buying this monitor. Can you tell me if it is any good for fast fps, especially for quake? How is the input lag and latency ? I have read this review few weeks ago, but there is nothing about gaming so your opinion as a gamer would be much appreciated.

i feel lag with the LG, i miss 1 second or so in comparison with a crt. trumode feature/setting isnt working. from what i read and get reactions there is only the samsung 120 hz to do online gaming.

btw. the prices have dropped by a lot in Poland, especially the LG capable of 120 hz. Perhaps it's worth taking a look into. Myself I have the 'old' Acer (GD245HQ) standing in front of me: a little less backlight bleeding, height adjustment and some other minor things would improve my experience with it, but nevertheless I'm quite satisfied.

try setting up custom resolutions in nvidia drivers with the desired refresh rate

yep, for me every res is working with 120 hz through nividia driver.

I tried through nvidia panel too, but it doesn’t seem to work. It will either distort the colours and the image, or completely fail to start, or run at lower refresh rate, even though it says 120hz. That is what it does in ql as well. With picmip it completely distorts the colours and without picmip, while still distorting them without being very noticeable, it runs in lower hz too. I mean in lets say 1024x768 res appears to be exactly the same in 120zh with 60hz (same tearing). In 1920x1080 res though in 120hz is very diff than 60hz (the first has no tearing at all and the later has). Therefore, even though at some occasions might seem able to run at 120hz at lower resolutions, isn’t really true since it doesn’t have any noticeable difference from 60hz. Even at the manual it says that it only supports 120hz at native res.

At least that is my experience. I am curious though, if someone else has managed to run ql at a lower res, with picmip, no colour distortion and notice significant difference at 120hz from 60hz. In my pc this can only happen in native ress (perfect image and u can feel the 120hz). I might be missing some setting? Lost Friday night playing with it and various cfgs of pros. It is weird though that toxic and winz (and linkin maybe) use picmip at low 4:3 ress with 120hz. Maybe it works in other monitors?

the difference between 120hz and 60hz lays in movement for the eye, its smoother and for example spinning items arent flickering much. thats my understanding of it. but the texture quality stays the same.

you could force every hz in nvidia menu, sometimes the "customize" button cant be clicked, just close the whole driver menu and open it again. maybe a bug.

we havent spoken about the thru mode feature (non delay) in the monitor menu, it doesnt work. off or on it does nothing. thats a sad joke.

i wanna say im no expert on this topic, i read much esr about monis, bought this LG and want now the samsung for online gaming, and have read before buying on prad.de the 15page article. i must be fair, the monitor rocks but i feel this 1 second lag and the prad test says its 15ms reactiontime delay + 0 input delay, but i feel much more than 15ms.

did you change anything else apart from the monitor?

thanks t1e, i thought hard after your statement what it could be, so i detected mouse is only 125 hz instead of 500...
the thing is, i cant set it higher now (mx518, deactivate driver security, sign the driver, HIDUSBF) and i dont know why, strange. win7 servicepack 1 maybe interfers.

I managed to run it at 1024x768 in proper 120hz (any other resolution that I tried failed though)

now I wonder if the ppl (particularly the pros) who use low 4:3 or even 5:4 res, are letting the monitor stretch the image to full screen, or have blank spaces on the sides. I guess the first and hope that someone who has gone to a lan can confirm it. In that case I will switch to 4:3, because everything looks wider (if streched in the common nowadays 16:9 monitors), especially the corridors. Otherwise, if I am alone on this (to put it simply, on wider=better), won't get into the hassle, since I am already pretty happy with my cfg (apart from rl aim and dodging).

other than just answering your question perhaps a little suggestion. why not just use your monitors native resolution which is best in terms of not-creating-any-additional-lag-hardware-side (a higher resolution can drop your framerate though, but that's not the case with your PC I think) and sharpness. also, quake is perhaps the best adjusted game in terms of supporting wide screen gaming, your fov and everything else stays the same when playing widescreen, only you gain additional sight on the sides, so that you don't have to worry about any additional settings now or in the future (scenario: if you would go to a LAN that only has got 4:3 monitors you wouldn't have to worry about any changes, the game would play approximately the same as it does at home) - try it out! I don't see why anybody wouldn't want that.

Do the 100 and 110hz settings actually work? Just curious, that could be useful with some games not running at 120fps.

compared today on work a 23,6 16:9 with a 22" 16:10 and i like the older 16:10 format more

I purchased the LG W2363D two weeks ago. Please note z3R0 that it is a 23 inch display and not 23,6. Unfortunately as far as i know there are now 24 inch 120hz monitors on the market. The biggest is the Acer GD245HQ which is 23,6

The monitor is great i recommend it to all gamers! :) So smoooth and no input lag no latency at all. The only trouble for me was the color calibration. The default one was horrible!

I play on a BenQ 120 Hz. It's a really good monitor but I would rather go for the cheap Samsung one, to be honest.

Not worth the money. Even if you have the money to buy one.
