I think most people don't even know there is an automatic subscription renewal, so I think the drop won't be that drastic.
If the renewal was manual, I guess about 50% wouldn't renew their subscription.

I turned the automatic renewal off some months ago because I don't know if I still will be playing the game at that point. If I do I would rather spend 2 mins to manually renew it.

It would be so annoying to pay for something you won’t use just because you forgot about the automatic renewal.

If id has any sense left in them, they'll eliminate or radically change the whole pay-account system. When demand drops, by raising prices, you cause demand to drop even lower. If there are no players left, even if you charge $1,000,000 for a pro account, you won't get a dime.

Id, such brilliance, they get everything backwards. Another product of living in Texas i'd imagine: demand is low, raise prices; divided we stand, united we fall? Only a total revamp of the account system could give QL any chance of surviving or succeeding later on. Then again, since id seems to also screw up just about every design decision, what they should do is enable modders to sell their top-choice modifications, for inclusion into the main QL system. And they should outsource their in-house coding to Chinese or Indian's.

If MLG doesn't pick up quake, we're fucked for tournaments. Syncerror and his band of merry faggots don't do shit to promote or help quakelive get into tournaments.

I expect that they'll close quakelive soon, but we can just cpma.

I love the game itself but both the community and id makes it hard for me to enjoy sometimes.

1) The non-existence of any matchmaking makes finding suitable games a lot of time and effort compared to more advanced systems like battle.net.

2) Quakers are too phlegmatic and narrowminded when it comes to playing. They go to servers to "warm up" (for what?), wait friends, to idle and dick around etc. When they finally play it's always ztn and nothing else.

If the finding game-to-actual playing-ratio could somehow be alleviated, by preferably matchmaking (with forced start), I would defo play quake.

If people would play other maps and stop wasting time (even if youre waiting for a friend you probably can play a single map against me in the mean time) I would also be more reluctant to quit my suspriction.

The dream would make id build a battle.net kind of ecosystem with matchmaking and ladders to support all their games. (Wanna play a game of fucking doom with no waiting? FUCK YEAH) but i think it's easier to introduce rational thinking to christians.

bla bla bla, remember QL is a research project for id, i believe taking into account the slow development, lack of marketing and so on, it is pretty succesful. If they make Q5 with updated graphics/crouchsliding/destructable enviroments/ladders/give or take something, and create a serious framework for esport organizations. MILLIONS of players would try the game just for having quake in the name, MILLIONS

Sadly, id didn't learn their lesson and the whole thing repeated itself when id decided to take ql out of beta last year despite the ongoing existing bugs, etc. So marketing this game won't help at this point. They first need to make sure all issues with the game are fixed to an extent.

SP wasn't much better either.

It always was, but it didn't sell well to begin with. Even with hype, full advertisement, retail sales, and console versions, it still only sold as much as Q3 - less than 1 million.
