Really fun to watch, loved it.

But, for the love of god, please use another hud next time you do a vid. I used to play with a somewhat similar hud so I know it's actually pretty easy to see through all the stuff cluttered around the crosshair when you're playing but it felt like you were using cthulhu.tga as a crosshair for a few minutes.

i'm not exactly a duel player, so take what comes next with a grain of salt...

you were saying that lg is by far your best weapon and that you dislike your rl aim, i'd say that overall you should've used rail a lot more on hektik, you didn't pressure him enough when you had control.

instead of using rl spam you could've sniped him to low health at long range and you might've been better off trying to use a lg to rail combo for mid range fights, instead of relying again on rl spam to get him to low health and then finish him with a forward+lg attack.

you also ignored the 25h by the rl/ya a few times when you needed it and you could've used that sg you went around at mh a few times during the game in close range fights (takes less damage than jumping on him with rl to get the kill).

you seemed to dodge only when you knew he was aiming at you, against better players that's not a good idea, you should be pretty much dodging the entire game especially on a map as tiny as hektik.

Good self-analysis and a well done video in general.

Some critiques:
-As nvc pointed out, your movement isn't up to par. I'd definitely work on your circle jumps and strafing.
-Your aim didn't seem 'on.' Whether that's due to:
Being nervous (did you know ahead of time you were going to do this, or did you just pick a recent demo?) or
Poor aim in general, but rocket launcher specifically. The Quake series revolves around the rocket launcher. Always has and always will. Your lg aim actually looked decent but your rocket launcher usage and aim have a long way to go. I hate to recommend it but spending some time playing CA and using nothing but rockets might do wonders for you.
-Your opponent, genecrazy or w/e, didn't seem to know what he was doing when he was out of control. Have you practiced against guys who're actually better OUT of control than IN? Or at least know how to play properly? That alone will make you step your game up and either improve your map lockdown or teach you how to play defensively.

Anyway, overall this was a great effort and I commend you for having the guts to put it up on here. Cheers!

nice work. got a lot of suggestions. as others mentioned, just from watching it looks like ur mouse settings arent optimized across weapons and movement. perhaps explore accel etc. also you should pay a little more attention to positioning when u do have control. instead of spamming constantly, u could try going silent for a couple of seconds, just sowing a few seeds of uncertainty in ur opponents mind and trying to gain a positional advantage.

not sure if those are ur in game settings but i would suggest using a slightly cleaner hud. the clock/ammo information on the crosshair is slightly distracting. as was suggested above, considering using wolfcam which gives u the item timer on items u picked up. might help you analzye when u miss the timings etc.

suggest you do a review on a game you lose against a slightly better player next. would be an interesting contrast.

Obviously fixed when the game began and perhaps it'd never happen again anyway but have to mention the hard-panned (left) sound in the beginning, especially since everything else is of such a high standard.

What microphone is that?

A lot of people have mentioned the HUD, using Wolfcam, trying accel....I will do all of these things. I've been looking for a cleaner hud, I'll go find one at qlhud.core.ws and try something without the info right next to the crosshairs.

I've never liked accel, but in the last few months I've been turning my sens down more and more. I use m_cpi so that my sens is actually measured in cm/deg. It's currently 14 deg / cm (if I have my wrist far left and pivot till it's far right, I turn about 180 in the game). Since I've lowered it so much, I will try a little accel to see if I like it.

Yes I do need to work on my CJs and strafe jumping. I used to practice on raztrainql_beta3 for at least 20 minutes a day. I haven't been doing it lately though. I can get past lane 3 and 4 pretty easily, and I've done 5 and 6 on occasion, but they are super hard. I've got as far as 7, but only with half beat strafe jumping. I'll work on it. Will be interesting to see if the accel helps with that.

I will definitely use Wolfcam for the next one, which I'll be making later tonight (already have the demo. It's vs Fadeout on Hektik. The player I mentioned usually beats me).

The mic is a Studio Project C1 condenser mic. I play and record a lot of music (http://capitolthrill.bandcamp.com), so I have some decent audio gear.

And yes, that's my face. I have a huge, gnarly beard. Just cause.

might not need accel with what seems to be 25cm/360 ( knackered, assuming it works like 360/14 ), just use your arm ( or use your arm as the pivotal point instead of your wrist ). This way you'll get a faster and more regular movement.

Speaking of HuD's I was wondering how to move the clock in game? I googled around and looked through my .cfg's but I couldn't find any effecting commands.
I have the cooller.cfg,timer sits at the bottom above HP/Armour, but I'd like to move it upwards.

Yes this was one audio take. I watched the demo about 3 times, to be familiar with it, and then watched it a 4th while I recorded the audio. Since it was the first time, it took a little longer.

- 30 or 40 minutes of watching the demo, becoming familiar with it
- 10 minutes to get everything working for the video intro
- 3 minutes to record the intro and get the video set up
- 10 minutes to record the audio
- 10 minutes to put the fraps vids, intro vid, and audio commentary in Adobe Premier
- About an hour to render the video
- About an hour to upload to youtube (2.5GB for 1080p)

In the future, I would say it'll take me about 1hr 20m to get familiar with the demo, record the video w/ commentary, and get it rendering. The rest is just waiting for rendering and uploading. I'm happy to spend that small amount of time to keep making this. Long live Quake!

The time and ammo in the middle of your hud is odd, also add item timers. I suggest the noctis hud, but move the clock to a corner.
