It's definitely possible, I'm not sure if you would have to modify the actual shell itself though. It might just be a case of rearranging the insides.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if you end up changing pad to find it jitters/malfunctions. A friend of mine said he had a 'non jittery' sensor, and then tried it on one of my pads which is claimed work with a 'non jittery' abyssus to find it tracked poorly and 'jittered'. Its not worth putting in all the effort of modding a shell with a new sensor to get a new mouse mat and find its now useless :S

When you have the choice between a perfect tracking sensor from the WMO and the abyssus sensor with the bad track record it has, I wouldn't think twice :)

Unless you use a really low sense with no accel there is no reason to choose the abyssus sensor imo; your going to have to do some cutting/drilling/work to get the sensor into the mx300 shell anyway.

It would be quite a bit of work to get either of those pcbs into the mx300 shells; obviously the microswitch placement and sensor location will not match up, and then the lens will probably not fit very well either.

If your wanting to save yourself a lot of time, I would just get an asian G1; I have one and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it; then sensor is good and the build quality is of the usual logitech standard.

Your in the best position to work this out; just take all three mice apart, look at the mainboards microswitch locations, the boards mounting points, and the sensor location on the mainboard, and finally the height of the scroll wheel (sometimes they are too high for a new shell etc). Even take the mainboards out and put them on top of the MX300 base and see what has to be done :)

Also, how do you know the sensor is burned out? It could be a bad cable, or a cracked solder joint on the mainboard.
