Ofcourse, makes the mouse million times better. There is still some light copper"wire" which protects the actual functional wires from getting destroyed.
actually i don't know for sure if its just plugged or if its soldered.
if its just plugged, then just change the wires like they were on the WMO cord sitting in its plug.
Can't you just stick the feet back in the places when you have finished?
hey how am I supposed to do that? (change the wires)
*as in: the mouse I want to attatch the new cord to had the cables in this order: green, white, red, 2x black - now on the new cord it goes like this: red, white, green, 2x black. I figured I will need to swap the green and red cables, but.. HOW?
I've done this mod as well, to both my IME and WMO, and wouldn't go back. I went slightly further though and removed the copper too - it snagged every now and then.
Now I just have the 4 USB wires coming out of my mouse. If they ever break I will replace the cord, which is very easy to do.
No need to strip all of the way - I just have a a foot and a bit of lightweight cord and the rest as usual.
You cant replace WMO cord its fixed and soldered to pcb.
You need to desolder connectors and resolder new connection on it.
Which will be kinda pain in the ass.
It will be easy to buy new WMO to save hours or time.
well, good to know at last, that it's like this with the WMO.
But shouldn't it be quite easy to solder a new cable to it?
I mean:
-pull it out while u heat up the contact
-suck the solder out with desoldering pump
-cut off the plug of the new cable
-get rid of a bit isolation of the wires, put them in the contacts, and solder it.
-done
Its easy for you and me ofc :P
Open WMO and see that connector is different than what you solder.
You need to desolder usb female from other mouse and solder it to WMO then you can join any wire to it.
If you are lucky and WMO didn't smoke then its ok if not then you messed up two mice.
Its like they have stuck usb female straight on pcb.
Its not hard job but its very time consuming if you want to do it correctly.
And hoping that pcb wont smoke.
I'm thinking of putting an Abyssus pcb with the cord into a WMO shell. There was a thread here about that if I recall correctly. You just can't go past that WMO shape.
Well, I have a spare shell from a WMO 1.0 that I can try. without wrecking my 1.1a. You're right that probably isn't worth the effort, but it would be more of a learning experience. I'm not willing to risk busting an Abyssus just yet though. Something to try a bit later I order a spare one. :)
Some people can't stand the liftoff distance. I was going to try the tape fix but I am actually getting used to being able to track without touching the pad at times. I used to do this with other Razer mice too. I suppose it's all about how you hold it and track/aim.
Unlike the WMO, I'm pretty sure the Abyssus doesn't have any negative accel if you set the drivers properly. The build quality on Razer mouse shells is terrible though, the shell button on my Abyssus broke only months after posting that. I never got around to finishing that mod but I may as well now.
