yea sucked that both recent tdm finals were decided by dumb map like dm20. About noctis: he seemed to be in an whole another level of skill, the damage output from him was just incredible. But it was a great team effort too, krysa and spartie going on stacked hunts and av3k producing the most aggressive cess. ic could have won in cpm4, if they managed to produce maybe 1 more good quad-run, their quad died too easily every time.

Great finals but can someone explain what the reason was to up the mg ammo back to 100 again. It makes the game so much more cessy., QL TDM is already a lot more aim based than other quakes, even with 50 mg ammo.

Yep, they did.

They lowered the damage months before. After that there were a few months of TDM where it actually felt like teamplay was important because you couldn't get control back easily by merely cessing. Then for some unknown reason they increased the ammo again. Look at QW and Q2. In those games the starting weapon is complete shit and it promotes a lot more teamplay and weapon control instead of cessing.

cess IS tdm/teamplay. The whole thing started in QW, not cause of MG dmg in q3 (which is the best spawn weapon ever so far btw), and real skill will never change.

If you try to solo cess someone with sg in qw who has armour and a weap you wont last long and you wont get the kill, 2-4 people with sg rushing an area does work which is why sg > mg

qw's starting weapon (shotgun) is hardly shit, it's just that rl / lg is so overpowered you must be suicidal to try anything with it.

blaster of q2 on the other hand, was utterly terrible :D

the thing with qw spawning weapon isnt just the gun though. combined with the movement and power of other guns and items, it is perfect.

in ql, if you have rl, 100/100 and an enemy spawns at mid range from you, you have 2 choices. push for the kill and lose 80 armor or something ridiculous, or run away and the enemy can hit 80% mg into your back, removing just as much armor. if you have a spawn vs spawn mg fight, your choices are to: fight until death or very low hp, run away and survive with 30-40 hp because you get mg'd in the back, which is stupid. its basicly a mindless addition to gameplay which is only hurtful to the tactical sides of quake, imo.

in qw, if you spawn at midrange against a rocket enemy, you probably insta die or maybe get 1 shot off. if you have a spawn vs spawn fight, you have the option to run away and with the advanced movement you hardly take any damage and get away, or have a fight. the weapon is strong in right situations but its far away from being used like the mg in ql.

this was a useless rant and we're both on the same page im sure, but the ql mg mechanic is just beyond stupid to me. the spawning weapon should be strong to defend yourself with, but not unlimited range, 100 ammo hitscan attacking weapon that you can gnaw away at enemies.

oh I agree mg is too useful in some situations compared with the usefulness of sg in qw.

What I meant is this, imagine you started with qw sg in ql :D its practically a railgun (negligible spread) that does 25 damage, with a 0.5(?) sec firing rate, like.. woah.

i'd like to hear noctis' teamchat- he's definitely the TDM mvp, but without his team & proper communication he wouldn't be able to do what he does so well. Leads me to believe aside from great instincts & skill, his communication with the team has to be one of the things setting his play apart from other teams.

I also couldn't help but wonder what language teams with players from different countries were speaking to communicate with each other, like Ballerss & Monstahs. :D

it would be curious to see if noctis held the team captain position or not. i find it hard to believe he could perform that well and NOT be in the leadership role.

i have never played at such a high level though. it is possible that all 4 players must provide equal leadership roles because the personalities are too strong and conflict too greatly with a single leadership style.

whatever the case, noctis clearly knows something we don't. perhaps next year we'll see everyone evolve to his level.

what you probably meant is that he was their main item guy, eg. he gets ra and when he's not 100/100 the next time ra comes up, he gets another one :p since stacked person = powerup runner, he's also their first for powerups and certain weapons.

most teams assign one person to this role, but it's been like that as long as i can remember tbh.

i think he means the guy who makes the tactical calls like when to go to quad or when to stop rushing red etc

My 1st post was just to point out the hole in his logic. The fact that avek and strenx got pwnd by PG doesn't imply that they should be asked the question about rapha's or tox's claim.

i dont think rapha or tox made any actual statements about anything...i believe what he is trying to say is that rapha and tox probably feel that pg is stronger. the reason that they would feel this way is that they used pg to a higher effectiveness in their matches avek and strenx. provided that this is the situation, it is reasonable(not a fact, not always true, but reasonable) that the receiver of such unusually highly effective pg would also comprehend the differences of qcon 100% lan pg vs half online lan pg of previous "lan" tournaments.
