1. It's not a designer drug. In Russia it's known as: "the poor man's drug". Since it gives you something like heroin-effect (stronger) but ist way cheaper (300 Rubels for a dosis that's ~11$) and kills you much faster (people that actually have the money buy good heroin for a way higher price and live longer because of it).

2. It won't be as popular in western countries since Codein-Medicine is not prescription free here. Actually Russia is the only country I can think of where such medicine is free to sell. If here you can't by this stuff legally in a drug-store without prescription then why the hell you should buy it illegally on the black-market? It kills you faster than heroin will have a hight price (compared to the russian price for it) and you could get busted buying it. If you really need it you will go for heroin instead since taking crocodile won't have any benefits compared to heroin.

3. Soon it will be gone, since in Russia a law against prescription-free codein-medicine is worked on allready. As soon as it will be illegal the price for a shot will go up a lot and then the junkes might as well buy heroin instead.

4. Guess who has invented this drug in the first place? No not the Russians, Desomorphine was invented in 1932 in the U.S.A as a replacement for morphium, but they soon found out that it much more addictive and kills faster so they canceled it. In 2004 it popped up in a Russian prison and since then spread over the whole country so now everyone think's that it's a "Russian drug".

Desomorphine (Krokodil) is weaker than heroin but stronger than morphine. Also coaxil (tianeptine) much more toxic than desomorphine and it's easy to buy in pharmacy (in russia ofc).
