Dynamic lights seem to help a bit when dodging and finding people so I tend to put them on, but my aim is slightly better without.

Just to make things clear: GL_NEAREST is slower(!) than GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_WHATEVER, (just like how GL_LINEAR is always slower than GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_WHATEVER), because mipmaps are pregenerated and not realtime (with a cost of higher video memory usage ofc)

got to 1007 fps on one of yakumo's things of the QL forums with my shit GPU ( ati 3850) with gl_nearest and a ton of other retarded settings I never use.

3850 is quite OK for QL imo, it's not a bad card at all:)

I also play loads of GFX intensive games on the side mostly single player games and my card chokes on them so I guess I need a new card.

my cousin gave me his old 3870x2 in exchange for a briefcase full of chocolates and jelly babies , since I already had those at hand I agreed as long as he gave me all of his old RAM sticks too :D so now I have a slighty better GPU and I'll be coming back to Kuwait with it soon.

but could be alot of things, set vid preferences to maximum performance at settings, clean system. unwanted programs in the background etc..

The bottleneck is the HD4350 --> 1600x1200 gaming (3D) with a 64bit wide memory bus on the graphics card wont do stable 125fps. Perhaps disabling postprocess and stuffz could help, but lowering res is highly recommended.

edit: if you are using the retarded win7 (and didn't mod the driver) make sure that windows actually switches into the lower res, (so check in the monitor menu to make sure if it's not in the native 1920x1080 after game started fullscreen or after vid_restart).
This "feature" in win7 is a simple 2d surface scale and not a problem on most of the systems, but since the card only uses a 64bit memory interface, the scale could lower the performance with a great deal in higher resolutions. Just make sure you are really in 1024x768 or whatever runs fast enough.

I just checked the manual of your monitor, if you are at 120Hz, you are in 1920x1080!
120+ fps in that resolution just won't happen with that video card, it doesn't matter what ever you tweak, period.

QL is cpu intensive, not gpu.

This situation is VGA-limited for sure, even if that machine won't do stable 120+ in lower resolutions because of the X2, it certainly won't happen in 1920x1080:)
(let alone the fact that he tries to use a res (1200) which is higher than the native max Y res (1080) of his monitor)

I found an option on my Nvidia card (GT650m) to "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" so that even though native resolution is set to 2880x1800 (Macbook Pro Retina), I can run QL in fullscreen with any r_mode I want (like 16 - 1280x800). Needless to say, it's a lot less taxing on my CPU (fans run less) to run at that scaled lower resolution in fullscreen.

I know it wont be a problem for a 4xxx series card, but why recommend a "slower" linear scale for the mipmaps?

Its more compatible with newer graphics cards than nearest. tbh I don't know the technical reasons why, but noticed my game got a lot smoother and FPS more stable when I changed to linear. Using a Geforce 8800GT.

Must be placebo for sure imo, turning on an extra texture filter won't speed up things in any chip or driver, even if it won't slow down anything either.

As i said in my original post it won't matter on a 4xxxx radeon, but you say it's increases the performance compared to bi-linear???, I just can't believe that!
In the control panel of your video card driver, you may turn on "Trilinear Optimization" which is a hax, and could be almost as fast as bi-linear filtering, but if you turn it on, that's not a real tri-linear interpolation anymore.
