For the amount of enjoyment and entertainment I'm getting its great (despite the sensitivity bug). Yes there could be a lot more improvements/additions to Quake Live but it is what it is at the moment.

If I was to play in a regular football league, I'd be easily forking out $100+ a season that would last a maximum of 4 months at an average of an hour a week game time of competition/league time.

Does that seem like great value?

I personally can't see a shift to CPMA ( not centralised, small player base etc) whilst Quake Live exists.

You'll still be able to play with a standard account just not the extra content, will you be satisfied with that or does the extra content really fit what you want?

Ignore what's not available (ladders etc which aren't in CPMA either) in Quake Live but rather what the benefits are for the pro/premium subscription vs the standard account and make your decision there.

There are tier slummers everywhere. There are preventative measures against it, but still , some do get thru.

That said, being decent in both things, i APPRECIATE playing with higher skilled people because they bring challenge and therefore faster learning curve to the table. No doubt, no one likes to be plainly raped, but it's not my problem, per se.

I'm still not sure if I will be renewing, but I agree with Python. This game has it's (many) flaws but I still enjoy it. I'll definitely be giving it some thought. Considering how boring and lame I find most other FPS, this game still shines in comparison.

The thing is, I don't actually want to cancel my subscription. However, I am willing to cancel it just on principal that they wont give us what we want, the only way to actually make them listen to us is to not renew your subscription unless they do what the community has been wanting for years.

When they have ladders and proper new features (not a quad kill counter or some pointless shit like that), I will more than happily renew my subscription.

Ima stay pro cos most fun for me came from making private games with friends while on ts or mumble (intra-clan 5v5 freezetag or ca alltimes best, followed by prem duels and tdmpickups) so gna try to keep it the same + try more casting after I move to the south coast + start uni)

Absolutely, but there are many lame excuses to ignore the fact. Expecially coming from people who have not played q3 before. And most of the people find easy to play just QL. So...

I would love to see one active server again in q3, i don't need more, just one. People don't remember how amazing was the netcode in q3 anymore, every time i enter a server and move i really feel playing real quake again. Plus there is content there to play forever, thx to awesome comunity maps and mods (some guys have been working in new maps recently for Quake 3 too). QL atm is like 10% of q3's potential. It's fucking annoying ^^.

See that's why q3 > ql. Like wc3, people are still actively modding the game, improving it, to the point that game updates are not really necessary anymore. That's q3's biggest draw, and after witnessing wc3's appeal after all these years, i would venture to say that q3 will continue to exist for a long time to come. Ql however, should fade away shortly.

My premium ended few days ago, I already feel like I should buy a new one just for the sake of random aerowalk games.. but I really wont, not before id releases some patch that is worth investing in. I play anyway 80% of the time ztn and dm13, so whats the reasoning to pay full shit when u wont use the content anyway? 1. Make all maps free-to-play
2. Add statistic functions, gtv, ladders for prem
3. Fucking release patches we want, no shitty bugfixes with some new random cvars, rather ladders and other shit we need..

Fact is that if id had put even half of the quakecon prizemoney on developing quake live instead of giving it for competition we would have like all features we have ever asked: gtv, ladders, more new maps, defrag etc etc

My subscription ended last week and I am not renewing. There are very few differences between the game now and what it was a year ago... which is pathetic. Very little content and too few features have been added in the past year which means they are not really actively supporting the game anymore. We're basically just paying to help cover their server costs now, and not any continued development of the game, which isn't worth it if thats all we're getting.

The QL community has supported this game for years now and they are showing nothing for it.

Kind of pointless to renew when you don't get to play the maps except for in pickups and clanwars. Almost no one plays the premium maps on public servers. It would help if they lowered their subscription fee to 8$ for 6 months, 12$ for 12 months. They would probably get more subscriptions and more server activity. For the fee they are charging, I would expect them to do more development than they are doing. Like fixing the rails that hit behind model, making it possible to dodge well on stairs, more consistent splash from rockets when they hit edges etc.

Having a limited amount of server locations that are good for Scandinavian players doesn't help either. Swedish servers have lag spikes 1-2 times per minute and routing to QL NL/DE servers seems to be like playing the lottery. One day it is OK, next it is 15-30ms higher than privately run servers. Normal ping to NL servers is 40-50ms for me (depending on provider) while QL jumps between 44 and 80 ms, depending on if their servers is having a good day or not. DE is normally 45-50ms in while in QL servers are usually 55-60ms, on a good day just below 50ms. Movement and projectile weapons feel really laggy once you reach 60ms and beyond in QL.

It's not the cost of the subscription that bothers people,

1) its' the way they went about it: Saying they wouldn't go pay-to-play (according to marty).
2) not having enough payment options and refusing to initiate paypal because of a few fees
3) not providing the regular content updates they promised
4) the fact that people finally know the truth, that ql is a "business failure" courtesy of carmack.
5) that ql was dropped from a host of leagues over the past half year with more to come. Lack of sponsors, interested viewers
6) they haven't provided the content people have been asking for (ladders, GTV, support for community projects, map contests, communication, etc the list goes on (see priority sticky in suggestions forum)
7) lastly, talks of q4 by carmack himself proves they are already moving forward with plans for a sequel, essentially hinting to even the dumbest and most stubborn of fans, that their days on ql were numbered.

I really thought something could possibly come out of quakecon or shortly thereafter but i'm losing hope fast and they really have no time left. Most people's subscription renewal date went and past and as of now, as it has been, there's just no point anymore.
