i need a mousepad that is not too slippery yet smooth and provides lots of control and feedback. i currently own a qck heavy and allsop raindrop xl and would like to change. any suggestions?
You need to use the Allsop for a while though, something strange happens to it. It's like gaming on top of glue, yet still being able to move if it's slightly worn.
oh here's another one for mx518 users ( 1800dpi - big mouse feet version )
Prefer red colored artisan hien pads ( not shiden , this one is not skip proof if you do fast flicks, the coating on it also makes your wrist sticky like it's made of sugar ) my mx518 skips on artisnn hien hard blue and black but not on value edition red :S in fact my mx518 doesn't like black mouse pads at all, only other skip proof pad in my collection is puretrak talent, it skips on pretty much every black cloth pad :S
lol, you either do some VERY fast flicks or you have some faulty model (coming from someone that has used the MX5xx series primarily within the last couple of years)
Sorry to steal your thread a bit, but I don't feel like I should open yet another topic for a quick question. :-)
I'm replacing my QcK+ with a Razer Goliathus, but I kinda lost my way between the Control and the Speed edition.
I'm trying to find the slippery one, on which the mouse glides better. Razer site says, that the Speed is the low friction one, but on the forum, I read it is the Control one.
I would be most grateful if someone could shed some light on this topic.
So you are saying that if I apply the same pushing force on the same mouse, it will slide a longer distance on the Control edition as it has less friction?
I didn't test the Control but from what I see, it looks to have more friction to the Speed one (don't even understand why they say it has less friction oO). And Goliathus Speed = QcK more or less, so if you have the QcK it's quite a waste of money to me.
By the way the Puretrak Talent is way smoother than QcK, and has less friction.
Since it's a faster surface with a more dense and compact mesh than the QcK, I can say yes it has less friction but since you're saying that the Goliathus Control has less friction than the Speed one, I really doubt that we have the same definition for the word "friction"
the talent has a smoother, better surface than both the goliathus speed and the qck+/heavy. it has a slowish surface, just like the everglide titan, so that a mouse isn't gliding on it as fast as it would on the above mentioned pads. that's my definition of friction (if a mouse moves a less distance with the same force applied on surface x, than it has more friction than pad y)
I think you are doing the mistake of comparing a brand new titan which has in fact a very fast surface, but one that slows down dramatically within a week of heavy usage.
I didn't say that smoother = faster. The Talent is faster AND smoother than the QcK, just tested it the last week, the QcK has a lot more control than the Talent that's for sure.
there are two types of friction: static and dynamic
static friction is the force needed to move an object from rest
dynamic is the force needed to keep the object moving
static friction is usually higher than the dynamic one
I own both speed and control large editions and I can tell you now that the speed edition wears out quicker. The speed feels nice but if you play all day everyday like me then maybe try the control edition as it lasts longer.
What's with sand and gaming? One is sandblasted, one is like sandpaper, but both is ok for playing sandbox games. Ahh, well, let me get back to my game, made by Frozen Sand... :-)
Cool :D What size did you get? By the way, I'm still using my control edition even after like a year. That speed one got so much friction after a few weeks I couldn't move on it any more lol :0
I got the largest one, because I'm a low senser (52 cm / 360 no accel). :-)
Currently I have a QcK+, but after some time, it got pretty worn too. Especially that between the DA 3.5 and the Abyssus I used a WMO with really worn down factory mouse feet (had to stole it back from my mother who used it on a wooden table without mouse pad for years). It was a short time, but I had to play some very important game, so I used it. No mouse feet + quite low sens - RIP QcK. :-(
Ya I use DA 3.5 as well. I also have a qck mouse pad but I find it too thin for my likings. I like the goliathus because its thick. Anyway enjoy the consistent aim and movement!
Yay, so you actually prefer to ask yourself what you see and how it MIGHT affect the friction rather than to believe in what the guys that own both of these pads say and state about their friction... well it's your choice :)
It seems that artisan shiden & shiden kai are made out of glass, are they similar to the icemat ? are they better or should i stick with best mousepad ever aka icemat ?
They're not true glass, they're rubber backed with a cloth/glass impregnated top
Takes dirt from your skin on pretty quickly, no info on how to wash it either, but it still tracks fine on any dirty parts
The friction on them when new is very small, and increases a tiny bit as you wear them in, and then stops increasing and stays stable. IMO, same as the icemat in terms of friction
yes, the one he got from artisan at QC2010 after he spilt coffee on his goliathus there so that he played last games with artisan(including epic final vs cypher)
First of all, the mousefeet is a bigger and more important factor than most people think, for creating the feeling/control you are searching for.
Certain mousefeet can give u loads of control on a mousepad where some other mousefeet are as fast as hell and it could be the other way around on a different mousepad.
I think everyone should only consider 4 certain mousepads when picking one and base their choise on the fastness of the mousepad they are looking for:
Slowest - Zowie G-TF
Slow - Steelseries QCK
Fast - Razer Goliathus Speed
Fastest - Puretrack Talent
The Razer Goliathus Control isnt precise enough and the Artisan Hien kai.g3 has a weird feeling/glide.
I've pretty much all the mousepads u would have possibly consider and none can compete with these mousepads.
There is only 1 mousepad i dont have and thats the icemat but that mousepad is made for a certain type of gamer that prefers ice below their mice, you would know if ur one of them...
