You move faster in one direction. Fairly simple shit to be honest, but I know what you mean. I sometimes end up holding W+A/D with LG because I'm usually playing aggressive at the time anyway, but for dodging, you're faster moving in 2 directions then 3

Hes saying that a+d makes curves around enemy while w+a+d makes straight lines.

He means that you should move relatively to view of your enemy. If both of you are standing on one platform (no or very low difference in height) you should dodge in one axis (a+d). If enemy is located higher than you then you should use two axes (w+a+s+d).
Personally, I am dodging shaft by making one or two long strafes, then 3-4 small ones

Bots in cpma can make very long circlejumps in a moment from any place on a map. They are bots, they can use all benefits of movement in a flick "mouse" rotates and instant "pressing" movement keys.

depends on what weap you have, i assume you wanna kill him, and mostly get in the right range shotgun/plasma/rocket, so approaching the enemy isnt always bad

bot lg tracking is bit different than humans, so practicing dodging vs bots wont help much in playing humans, to be absolutely honest, there are very few people who successfully dodge lg that well, the most basic thing to do is to avoid situations where you become lg fodder like moving forward to a guy who has lg out, having your back to a wall when enemy has lg out, avoiding places where your movement is predictable and linear, trust me if you learn not to show your pixels in these situations, you would be avoiding most of the lg abuse.

Dont let him flank you on even ground, try to keep him in your crosshair. If he flanks you then your l/r dodging becomes f/b aka easy 100% lg for him, especially if he's close enough and can bodyblock one of your directions.

this! And do small dodges if your opponent is doing small ones, when he goes for a long strafe you do same in oposite direction.

Worst advice ever. Small dodges in lg fights are your death if you don't combine it with bigger moves because it's so easy to hit 45% then.

i could be wrong i used to play on high ping. i know that short dodges make you very easy to hit but usually opponent did short also so i could hit them back..its weird i know:D

i played you on 8/15 ..it was two ztn games.. and i believe you´re an aim player. so you rather go in the fight and do damage yourself instead of thinking just doing this and this much for tactical reasons. in other words, you go in and move in a way so that you can do most damage. i watched the demos just now and we didn´t have a single faceoff LG fight like at RA or something. it was all max dmg combos with LG/rockets and some rails i believe.

Depends, if I play CA and I am trying to 1v1 lg fight against one enemy while the other rails me from side at a distance then I try to move in some sort of circles or mix w,s with a and d.

played few FFAs today and well, slap me for thinking pressing WASD was making me dodge more, totally notice people struggle more hitting me just using A,D i had a feeling i was doing something wrong. Cheers guys!

Few rules for great lg dodge:
1. Never use +forward, it eats your sideways speed
2. Sometimes drop aiming and only strafeaim, this way you will move faster than if your tracking and strafing
3. Check enemys style to aim with lg and do proper movements depending how he aims, vs strafe aimers use big strafe moves, vs mouse heavy aimers use smaller moves and mix.

but in LGvsLG you get pushed by enemy LG so you have to +forward a bit no?

I don't see any reply on visual awareness.

By this I mean that make sure to understand the angle of your opponents LG. Then when it's off try to place yourself in the position where he will have a hard time correcting his mistake.

I usually dodge random when I am in a position where I can't do much or just know I won't come out of it alive.. (With random I mean like something "L-R-R+F-L-L-L+B-R" F and B obviously being Forward and Back.

I don't use +back alot, only when I see that either I am too close to enemy to the point where I can't accurately track him anymore or feel I should reposition myself for another pattern (random or intentional)

The following picture shows when I move forward during a LG battle.

As it says in the picture, I start this 'dodging' when the fight is in like between 2 and 3 secs. The picture says 1 or 2 secs but it obviously depends on how much health and armor you have.


TL;DR:

dodge enemy LG - he thinks thats your pattern - start 'my moving' picture - win

nice, i was waiting for someone to post something like this. reminds me of a toxic(?) interview, where he said to always dodge first and aim second.

the only thing i disagree with is the moving backwards part, i do that a lot when using lg vs. someone desperate on attacking me, eg. they seem scared of the incoming lg dmg and try to quickly finish the fight. moving backwards helps a lot then (of course), they literally run into their own death :c

well, I mentioned to only move backwards in odd positions, such as when it happens that both you and enemy move/dodge towards eachother.

Let me remind you that replacing forward by backward (whether it be the 'random' dodge or the dodge in the picture i made) really helps when you are facing a rocketplayer.

I experience that RLplayers tend to delay their shots for the moment you are switching from Left to Right so they can shoot at the dead moment between them. So it seems more useful to dodge 1 side (to circle around the enemy) and when you see the rocket coming, to move to the other side or walk backwards.

what i was trying to say was this, lg trumps any other weapon at a certain distance and most people have realized that.

when i'm lg'ing vs. someone with any other weapon they usually try to stay out of the reach of the beam (rg/mg) or move closer to where their weapon is more effective (rl/sg/pg). this is then where i would almost always move back and bait them into being even more reckless.

rlplayers are what i hate most when using lg though, if i do a pattern similar to what you descibed in the picture i fear a good player will be on it in a second and i'd be flying around the map unable to do much, so i mostly try to go into random mode and get some distance.

still, i agree about not just alternating between left/right dodges vs. rlplayers, this is something i wait for with rl myself and i keep fucking things up when they don't do the usual L R L R L R :p

Hahah yea delaying shots are hard cus you are vulnerable for a short time but can receive alot of dmg nonetheless.

Your words about staying out of range is true, vs a rocket player going backwards when you have LG must be like the last resort concerning the distance you spoke about.

Dodging helps ALOT, and as your first reply, aim is the second thing you lean on in open fights... 2v2 and 3v3 CA games are great to practice LG vs LG situations (inb4 3v1 and 2v1 rocket backrape).

Any situation/fight is practice, how short it may be (inb4 3 rockets to the chest)

Imo, not really.. It's all about deceiving. In my posts I said it's important to know the right moment for doing these dodgings.. it's about timing where the oponent _could_ least expect it.


Low sens has its cons and its pros.. If a player who uses low sens locks on you, well good luck taking as little dmg possible (by your dodging).. But yea on the other hand, like you said.. he wont have it as easy as mid-sens player to turn around more quickly..


It sounds very vague and I know. It's hard to explain, but during a fight there is always a split moment where the 'regular' dodging is either repeated or just isn't enough and you are walking in his shaft constantly. at that split moment you have the choice to decide to dodge as my picture says or (if possible) to leave the fight.
