EDIT: Just to actually be useful. I suggest the browns, they felt more crisp and had a much nicer clack to them. The Reds weren't the best of all switches to type on for my choice, nor to game on, but I didnt use them to an extensive length of time. I'm sure that nVc can come in here and give his opinion on them, if I recall correctly he's got a Noppoo Choc with Reds... (Speaking of Noppoo, check this beast out! Sexy mother fucking keyboard right there!).

If I had the choice I would rather see that I would use Black Complex Alps rather than Cherry switches. I just prefer the feel of the Alps since I have been using them for a long time now!

Dunno why ppl tend to say that blacks are too hard to press and other shit so that they search for reds/browns without any mechanical keyboard experience. I've never had problems with blacks. Imho it's even better when the key bumps out faster

They're just opinions maaaaaaaan.
Most cherry users hate Alps because they're too complicated (Too many colours, too many details, logo on top, no logo at all, rubber slides etc), but I love them because they sound great and also feel great in terms of tactility.

...but, did you use cherry blacks for gaming yet? it's what most quakers use these days, i have nothing to complain too. they are pure awesome .)

Tried them before and personally not a fan of them either. I prefer the switches that have a low actuation force requirement, a nice slippery stem that will respond instantly and a great clacking noise to them. The sound that the blacks created sounded really muffled and disgusting to me, the feel also felt really solid, too solid for my taste.

that's what i wrote, i have no experience with these things but do know that i tend to like keys more that don't need much force to press.

Don't confuse the force required to bottom out the switch with the force required to register a keypress.

this, for example you can easily dodge in quake without ever having to bottom out WASD/ESDF/whatever you are using with cherry blacks.

I definitely have issues with black switches. So yes for some people they can be too hard to press. Specifically my hands were cramping up while using a steelseries 7g. When I switched to brown switches instead I no longer have the problem (keyboard is in the same location and other ergonomics were all held constant).

So just because you don't have a problem doesn't mean that others will not.

Hey I'm not bashing them for using the keyboard, a lot of people like the 6Gv2 and 7G, for a lot it's their first mechanical keyboard, but that doesn't make black switches any better.

ofc it doesn't make them any better, but it's not too likely that they would switch to one of the other switches, even if they could test them all.

btw, noctis switched from 6Gv2 / 7G to a filco tenkeyless also with black switches.

"Pros" have black switches because they're sponsored by Steelseries and have to use their hardware... Others have it because it's just 2x cheaper compared to Filco.

I only have black (SS 6Gv2) and brown (Filco Majestouch) and let me tell you: typing on black switches after getting used to brown is a damn pain! It hurts my fingers and my brain!

For playing Quake, black has no advantage at all, while only being stiffer and unpleasant to touch for someone used to softer springs. I assume red would be much better in that regards, but again what's the advantage supposed to be? Lack of tactile feedback is a plus nowadays? Why?

Clear MX switches sound like a good option for me, but I couldn't find them anywhere :( Anyone seen them in the wild?

The two keyswitches are very similar albeit, the browns produce a very subtle tactile response on key activation. Pretty much unnoticeable when gaming because you will bottom out the switch.

Cherry red are smoother but the cherry brown theoretically would be better for typing if you don't want to bottom out the switches as you get feedback upon actuation.

If you don't like one you probably won't like the other, not a lot to worry about the differences between them.

Personally I prefer reds.

Of course you can, that's the whole premise behind feedback. Helps with not bottoming out the keys while typing.

Interesting site but, I still don't get what all the fuss is about. IMO, wrist-comfortableness is 100 times more important than the small variations in the way a key is pressed and unpressed.

Keyboard marketeers must be masturbating with all the $$$$ they can get with all this cherry MX bullshit. My keyboard is a 7 year old generic labtec piece of crap, half the letters have been wiped clean, and the WSAD have holes in them (i recently replaced S with Num-Lock :D ). The thing is, I'm not going to change it because:

A) I can't afford any of these new keyboards
B) I find this generic labtec piece of crap supremely comfortable.

I've used all the MX switches. Topres and a few others. Reds are my favourite.

Both Browns and Reds are superb switches. Reds are compromise switch between typing and gaming as are browns. With reds landing on the gaming side more and browns more towards typing. Both are excellent choice and neither one will effect your stats in FPS games.

If you think you'd prefer a tiny little bump in the keystroke get the browns....if you think you'd prefer a smooth linear switch get the reds. Reds are a little easier to ride the actuation point. But again nothing that will translate to an advantage over the other.

I love typing and gaming on both....if I had to pick it would be Reds. But its much of a muchness

is there any issue with "resting your hand" on different mx switches in regards to accidental key hits?

i ordered the Noppo Choc Mini with MX Red keys (hopefully it comes next week!) i heard the red keys are basically the same as black with just less force needed! so sounded good to me.

I want reds too but don't like the noppo choc mini layout. For me using a non-standard layout is disturbing

I just got my first mecha keyboard, noppoo choc mini red. I can't imagine typing or gaming on stiffer keys than red switch ones.
I would go for red switches or a Topre keyboard.

Where did you buy it ? Ebay, or is there any european store selling them ?

$90 + $10 shipping from ching chong ebay chinaman. He marks it as $25 gift, so no import tax for me either. Only €75 = get it!

I also got a Filco numpad with cherry brown switches and it feels really dirty. Maybe for RTS players a tactile switch could be suitable, but for FPS linear is definitely better.
