Alright, the first match has been played. We figured the seperation of east and west coast doesn't really make sense so we removed that. Some new pickup modes have been added (ca 4on4 and 2on2 and ffa).

Have a [+] for your efforts. Moving to US in ~10 days, will try to get some games going once I'm there.

While I applaud this effort (good job!) you need to realize that North American players are too fucking cool to play pickups on IRC. It's not like #tdmpickup in Europe where any random guy can join a game and have a great time. In North America, unless you know someone you won't be getting into a pickup game. I hope your channel succeeds but here's what I predict, based on the old channels: a couple of people will stop by the channel, see what it's about, then quickly /part within 20 seconds because they feel they are better than everyone else, or the channel doesn't have enough idlers for their tastes. That is how it always is in North America.

But with that said, good luck and I hope the pickups are successful!

im sorry but 25$ a year is not that big of commitment... relying on being able to asking favors all the time is just hurting the pace of setting up games which is already pathetically low. you basically need an hour to play a 20 min games.

well you can either play for 8,5$/month than, or make an account with a non-pathetic name and when you move out you sell it on discount price (say for 15$)...

or you can just keep relying on asking for favors, but than show some manners and dont call people fags who you rely on when they not in rush to help you out for the 500th time with the same thing.

If people need invite we have a few people who can A)multi-spawn and B) have pro to invite you, just be sure to ask before the game starts.

plus I think the pickup elitism stuff is a bit over the top in this thread, I mean yes, there was some but never ppl thinking "I won't play in a pickup, I am too good". Back then when ppl played q3 ctf irc was just not popular, plus we were retarded for using gamesurge or whatever anyway. irc only took off after q4 started which was kinda late.

Good move here, uscpmpickup worked for a long time, this should too. Just keep advertising.

Looks like we just hit the 60 users mark. There have been some very intense matches today and the channel keeps growing. Be sure to check it out!

you should also keep track of how many different users there are, not just total in channel at one time. That will allow us to get a better idea how many na players are interested in these pickups. 60 is great but its' not nearly enough to turn things around. I'll start jumping up and down when we get a couple hundred in the channel, for now it's a good start. At least the trend is going upwards so the word is getting out. But it was also the weekend so to be honest i expect it to drop today, so don't get down on yourselves if it dips back down below 50.

First 3 games i played were all either OT games or 1 flag cap wins.

played some great games through this channel, hope it stays alive. anyway I have 2 comments/suggestions

1.Captains don't necessarily have to be the two best players. They just need to have even skill and they need to know the skills of the other players in the server. This will result in even teams. Also, its kinda annoying when its the same captains every match. I'm sure other players would like a chance.

2. Not sure if I agree with the 1-2-2-1 when picking teams. In some cases you're better off getting the number 2 and 3 picks. IMO it should be 1-1-1-1-1-1 with loser getting the map pick.

I look forward to playing more matches and I will be promoting the channel.

I've always thought it was weird to split up quakenet/gamesurge for quakers due to the fact that we would get 'closer' if we would all idle/hangout on the same server. It's not like ping matters in IRC :)

i wish i could play quake while streaming live.. they need to come out with a program like dxtory that will upload the live stream so i can play with higher than 30fps

i use an old version of vhrscrcap (before they implemented the watermarks) and it works fine. the games i stream run @ full fps while you can set the amount of fps the stream is running at. personally the only challenge i have with streaming quake specifically is my low bandwidth, thus increasing my ping. if you don't have that issue it should work fine and is free. scrcap/fmle can be an ass and a half to set up, but once you get it right it runs perfect and is free.
